Freezes piss me off

Hi guys---

 

I know KOTOR2 is a buggy game, and I know that I should save often and in different slots. The problem is this: when landing on Telos, after the mess with the guards, I head to the Residential Module West to talk with the Ithorians, and the game freezes. Instead of going to the loading screen, the screen stays black. No problem, right? Reload in an earlier slot. The problem is that as far back as I have reloaded, I still encounter the same problem (i.e. back to the Harbinger). I have re-installed the software and uninstalled the mods.

 

I have never encoutered a similar problem in this game, and can't figure out what is wrong. I COULD theoretically start over, but would don't want to really go back and kill a bunch of droids in Peragus. I have played this game several times on this system with no problems.

I started the game over and ran into the same problem.

 

Any ideas?

No ideas I'm affraid, apart from looking into the faq section in the forum and doing a search. however there is a 'Skip Peragus & Telos' mod out there, which might be of use to you, if you don't mind skipping those parts in the game (which in turn will tell you whether it's just that part in that game that's buggy, or not). Unfortunately, that would mean missing out on plot and character development.

Is it me or is the Xbox Version less buggy?

 

At least it lags more, that's for sure.

The xbox version is probably less buggy, but that's because the game developers didn't have to make the game compatible with a load of different software, graphics cards, motherboards etc...

I'd try a different video card driver. For some weird reason both KOTORs run into problems with the drivers now and then. Sometimes even an older driver can solve the problem.

Well, the issue seems to be one of the mods which I have installed. I don't know what the deal is, but I have taken to leaving the window with all the game files in it open, and dragging and dropping the ``Override'' folder to my desktop after a crash. My guess is that the hang was caused by the ``Escaped Criminals'' quest fix, but I can't be sure.

 

I get none of the normal tell-tale signs that it was a crash caused by the driver, at least inasmuch as other people are reporting. I have played this game through about a year ago with the same card/driver. NVIDIA had KOTOR-specific content, actually---they had some better resolution videos, or something. So I don't think it is the driver here.

 

The newest hang is caused by the Courascant planet mod that I downloaded, I think. I get some sort of seg fault after I leave Courascant and going to another planet. So it goes, I guess. I do appreciate the work that the modders do, as I can't see playing the game through more than two or three times usually.

If this is the pc version then on the menu you get when you put the cd in (the one you get before starting the game) and click 'update' it takes some time, but it may fix the problem (which is why the opotion was created in the first place ).
