Cantousent Posted September 22, 2007 Share Posted September 22, 2007 Okay, so I've got my system built and my old one is now over at my wife's desk. I've installed a fresh XP on the wife's old system, but it does not recognize the ethernet port. I've got a Gigabyte GA-8IPE-1000G. This is the number straight off the board. However, I can't even find the board at the Gigabyte website in order to install the driver. Hell, even using the GA-8IG1000MK doesn't work. I thought the actual port might be a Marvel Yukon, so I downloaded the latest there and no dice. This is really starting to piss me off. Any ideas of what I can do with this stinking pile of waste? So, I've tried installing a variety of things, from Intel PROset to Marvel Yukon and the ethernet controller is not doing a damned thing. Anyone know what I can do with this? taks Posted September 24, 2007 Share Posted September 24, 2007 XP was really strange in this respect. it shipped without a lot of key drivers, RAID in particular. all the help sites would say "simply put in a floppy that has your driver" and sure enough, that's what XP wanted you to do. that i did not have a working floppy, nor did i intend to put one in, was inconsequential. arg did it take a while on that one. i've heard the same problem exists with the ethernet drivers, though fortunately, i always keep my board CDs so i haven't run into such a position (besides, LAN is not required during winders install, so you can use a CD after it is installed rather than a floppy during the install). taks comrade taks... just because.
