Well, damn. Just when I was starting to get the characters in Soul Eater, the author picks up the pace.

Now there main character is seeings dreams where a midget imp in a suit dances to cheesy jazz in a garish room with massive red curtains. I mean, how freaking obvious can a reference be?

I don't know what is wrong with the guy, but I'm loving it.

Not really a spoiler but he's got black blood in him from his encounter with that demon chick. I read the manga up till like 47 or w/e they are at. Gogo loli medusa.

You don't really need to read the manga to get any of that, they even said it two episodes ago.

I actually referred to the the mangaka with "the guy". Could be a woman as well, but whatever.

And as for Juuso's question: It's a pretty traditional shounen(debatable, but there's boobs and large weapons and freaking abingdon boys school) anime/manga whose only high points so far have been the nicely original art style that mixes saturated colours with very heavy shading and exaggeration, kinda reminiscent of GurLag actually; strong female lead(though she's not the titular main character); absolutely incredible animation thanks to BONES; ponytails(also well animated); nice combat choreography and the freakish cast that is just on the borderline between irksome and likeable.

I'd also like to mention my favorite pro over other shonen - the VA is very fresh, the voice casting is great and I'm pretty sure this series will be a spring board to some future fan favorite seiyuus. And it's nice to hear a show without Gangut...Aluca...George Nakata for once.

As for the story, it's a horrible blend of pretty much any action anime setting you can think(except cowboys and mecha future, thank god), I counted at least a Bleach-like spiritual metaworld, freaking pumpkin Halloweenland, overdone Gothic European(literally in every anime set in Europe), Cosa Nostra Italy, medieval Japan, medieval Europe, horror movie scenery, etc etc. And then they throw super-powered kinds in there to fight demons, mobsters, demon mobsters, teachers turned zombies, zombies turned teachers(no, seriously), witches, cats, cat witches(I'm really not making this up), French assassins, biker gangs, more demons and demonic witches.

So...yeah. There's also friendly bonding, themes of truth, some anger over giving up, school comedy, evil god about to be born, all in all very basic shounen stuff - heck, anime stuff in general. The strength is perhaps in someone actually getting all this crap together and managing to make it NOT SUCK. It's as if someone took freaking Baccano!, fed some Rurouni Kenshin and Bleach to it, kicked the corpulent and seething mass of metaphysical flesh into a pit of leftover GAINAX art style and gave everyone magical scythes.

In hindsight, that sounds ****ing awesome!

Just watched Macross Frontier episode 12.

The ending made my jaw slam down onto the ground.

SDF-1 MACROSS! WHAT THE HELL IS IT DOING IN GALLIA 4!??!?

This is a pure win for a cliffhanger.

Slayers is great. Did they ever finish the 3rd season...? I seem to remember it just sort of... ended... Hmm anyway, I just finished watching Gurren-Laggan the other day. Haha, outrageous. As someone a few pages back quoted: "over-the-top action and homo-eroticism" Well not much homo but plenty of bare chested guys!

Hmm, just finished watching Blood+ a few minutes ago. 50 episodes without sleeping! Definately one i shall watch again in a few months or so. Hmm anyone else think the animators sometimes use Michael Jackson as a model?

I read Monster yesterday (the manga). It was nice. I liked most of it, but I felt that the end should be more climatic. Now I'm thinking of reading 20th century boys.

I think therefore I am?

Could be!

Or is it really someone else

Who only thinks he's me?

I've seen 65 episodes of 'Gintama' in a row. Very insensere and filled with low-brow humor, but there's room for character development that makes one want to watch "just....another....episode". For example, there's an episode that consists of only the three main characters scheming against each other with different strategies on how to steal ALL the meat from the hot-pot that they are cooking. It sounds boring at first, but by masterful editing and wonderful internal dialogue by the characters, one doesn't even notice that they drag it out for a whole 25 minutes.

Aside from the pilot-episode, which was a bit of a drag (consisting of episode 1 and 2), this anime is a cheerful bliss all the way through.

Yeah, they finished season 3. There's also season 4 airing in Japan currently.

I was at Best Buy recently and saw Samurai 7 for sale. Then I noticed something. It's Akira Kurosawa's Samurai 7. It's based on his classic film Seven Samurai! I had to buy it, but I'm afraid to open it. Any opinions?

Also Code Geass is getting crazy. If you haven't picked this show up I would recommend it. I haven't watched episode 15 yet but last episode something horrible happened. Resurrection 4tw plz. :'(

There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Samurai 7 is 'ok' at best. Very high production values though with CGI implemented here and there.

I thought the same of the series, good but very anticlimactic. Just finished Paranoia Agent. It's baffling. I didn't quite know what to make of it at first, but it's so full of creativity and originality. I've really warmed to it.

Both seasons of Ghost In The Shell: SAC are going cheap on Amazon so I think that's next. I've heard good things.

Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto

Pretty decent series, if you can see past the overly long title, set in the fall of the shogunate and start of the meiji era(read: almost same time as Rurouni Kenshin).

Is it even half way as good as Kenshin though, Kiro-san?

'Cause if it is, then we have ourselves a WINRAR!1 (not the compression utility).

No it's not. It's a different feel (serious/kabuki/supernatural) feel to it than Kenshin's lighter humour that gets more serious towards the end.

Just finished Mononke. We need more than 2+12 episodes grrr.

Not sure if someone mentioned Mononoke (the one with the medicine seller, not Princess Mononoke). I think I should share the amount of win with the rest of you.

Watched the first episode. It's got a great style to it. It's a spin off too, isn't it? Have you seen Ayakashi?

The Gurren Lagann english dub is not so good. They showed it on Sci-Fi on Monday. It sounded like it was being taken too seriously.

The 2nd DVD comes out the 5th. I might just order them both. Note, the DVDs are japanese language with english sub only. Nice that they're trying that.

Hikaru no Go's one of those animes where you can't stop watching it ep after ep. But when you finally stop and look back I got the feeling why did I watch it? In a way it's awesome how it can hook you but ultimately I felt empty.

Not saying you shouldn't watch it, but after say 10 eps (out of 50+ I think) I'd recommend evaluating it before going further.

Yakitate Japan on the other hand has that hooking factor AND made me feel satisfied. Was more fun and creative in general. Shigeru Kanmuri ftw.

Watch the Animatrix collection. It ranges from amazing action to surprisingly deep.

And you don't have to be a specialist in the Matrix to understand everything about it.

I actually watched it recently but I didn't like it so much. It was kind of depressing....Almost all of them ended in a bad way.
