No, it doesn't. What would help is if I new how to script it myself.

Annoying. Building characters in Volo's hero creator and testing them is addicting. I've created 10 characters today. Rogue/Fighters, wizards, arcane tricksters, bard/fighters etc.

 

This game allows you to create ridiculously munchkiny characters. Lvl 20 Aasimar sorcerer with best possible equipment = undefeatable. And boring. Few meteor swarms, well placed maximized cloudkills and maximized disintegrates = ;)

I got that no corpse fade script done. I figured it out!

 

However, it doesn't leave a lootable corpse behind. Hmmm...

thanks for the feedback. Gromnir will probably stick with rogue/cleric and hope that the red wizard's homunculus has adequate thiefy skills.... though a rogue/wizard/ek/asoc would be a skillz hound and we would not need to depend on homunculi.
You know, that one sounds pretty fun. I'll have to try one out, all I need is to calculate what kind of Feats and Stats I should go for so that I don't gimp myself entirely in either arcane or martial matters.

 

feats is the one problematic issue with this combo. sure, we gots all the skillz we could hope for, but we gotta takes skill focus: spellcraft & martial weapon prof to qualify for the 2 prcs... would take empower anyways, so that is no issue. gets skill focus concentration for free with ek... one less req to worry 'bout for asoc. probably wanna throw in a shield proficiency too... though that one is debatable. able learner is essential for Gromnir 'cause we is maxing skillz. we would get shield and martial weapon for free if we went traditional fighter/wiz/ek route, but this is a skills build. most o' your essential meta magic stuff you would have to wait on til you takes asoc levels... 'cause you gets loads o' good meta stuff for free with asoc.

 

human gets most skills, but stoutheart halfling is gonna have a prettier character record sheet with better bonuses and stats. Gromnir am not a min/max stats guy so with spell casting prodigy and practiced spell caster feats we not feel any sting from starting with a 16 int or taking 4 levels o' rogue. str 12, dex 14(16), con 14, int 16, wis 12(10), chr 10. halfling stats is in parenthesis. not too worried 'bout str 'cause new feats allows you to eventually replace str with int modifier for bab. pretty much dump every available point into int... and make sure to takes tumble and umd.

 

also, while saves is ok, they ain't great either. ek gets high fort. rogue gets high reflex. wiz gets high will. a 4/6/10 r/wiz/ek ends up pretty darn balanced, 'specialy if you go the halfling route with high dex.

 

by the end o' motb you ain't gonna be particularly combat effective no more... but play through nwn2 and you ends up with 4 attacks and ability to cast 8th level wiz spells... not to mention access to virtually every useful skill in game. with motb you simply go 100% asoc and end up with a very powerful wizard who is having enough skills to take advantage o' just about any skill related dialogue check in game... but you does start to lag in the combat stuff.

 

is not a pg build in the traditional sense, 'cause there is far better builds for arcane power and for combat efficacy, but this seems like a very nice build for taking advantage o' just about everything the game might have to offer.

 

one serious drawback: you got no real room to add in crafting feats. gonna have to depend on your companions to do all the crafting stuff.

I've been thinking of starting as a Monk in MotB, once I get it and a working computer, and am looking into the viability of this build in the rather more difficulty-oriented combat of the expansion. In a nutshell, is a pure a monk a possiblity in regards to survival, or should I branch into other classes and how would I go about it.

Monk is always survivable. Some would say it is a bit too much so.

I've never played a Monk, so I can't give advice on that. But I played through MotB as a (rather hastily put together) pure Bard, and I didn't have a very strong focus on melee skills. I made it through just fine, though certain parts of the game are tough (absolutely not impossible though). I doubt a Monk would have any problems regarding the "power" of the class.

You might want to look into the new prestige class called Sacred Fist though. Like I said, don't really have any experience with Monks or their related classes, but as I understand it it's kinda like spell-slinging Monk.

I'll play the rolepaying card here in my defense: I always roleplay specialist characters. That means restricting monks and druids and such from a variety of lucrative and metagamy things.

Game with the best story and RPG award for 2007, its decided to be Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer for me. :(:lol::brows:

 

My answer is firm this time than the wavering one I had for NWN2!

 

It HAD been so long since I played a well-done RPG. Though MotB retains some flaws due to engine design inheritated from NWN2 , they managed to correct those I had been very mindful of (Namely implementing of resting system). Immersive story, characters I am able to grow attached with, dark and personal story. Check check check.

 

But again I don't think there has been notable releases for PC RPG games this year aside from MotB, so I guess MoTB is an instant winner for me in the RPG genre.

BTW, I wonder if anyone found the item "Astral Rodent Charm"? Read up the description and you will realise its a blatant references to one character in BG2 :p

The spirit meter sounds like it'll be pretty fun to manage resources, especially with a spellcaster-heavy party. NWN2 was too easy for the most part, or too cheap (LET'S MAKE A WAREHOUSE FULL OF BACKSTABBING ROGUES ROFLTUNASANDWICH). I've pondered what character to play for a bit. In the end, I think I'll go for a bard/red dragon disciple. The RDD will help out for tanking/meleeing, while still being a backup spellcaster and providing persistent buffing for the party (which might be pretty important for limited resting). More importantly, I'll have a pretty good skillset for a diplomatic 'jack of all trades' character. Might not be a very efficient powergaming character, but I'll take a challenge instead. I thought about the warlock as well, but the skillset simply sucks. I pondering a few other PrCs as well (eg. arcane trickster, sacred fist), but the bard/RDD seems to encompass better what I'm looking for.

 

In any case, nice to see that people are agreeing on the quality of the story/writing/characters. Almost makes me proud to be the CEO of you losers.

About goddamn time. We Euros usually have to wait months sometimes for games to cross the pond. I guess that sometimes it's possible for us to get games before the Yanks.

I am playing as a lvl 19 monk at the moment, and i can tell so far after 3-4 hours of playing, that it is a mixed bag. On one hand, you're really difficult to kill, let alone to take any damage. On the other hand, one can get into situations where you and the enemy swing at each with no hits, and your wizard in your party is out of spells. The only thing left to do is going back and have an 8 hour rest :grin:

I don't understand why you're all so worried about character builds. You actually sit and calculate which builds would be best at which levels and which feats you should take to maximize your damage! Why not just build whatever you feel like and choose the feats that seem the best at the time the choice pops up? That's what I've been doing and it works pretty well.. except for the fact that I try to dress my character as ugly as possible and that doesn't always bring with it the "best" stats.

 

By the way, AD&D role-players really are roll-players after all.

I don't try to make my character to ahve the most damage potential, but for the most fun to play. Sometimes I am in the mood to play a focused single classed character, other times I just want to take at least one level in every base class! I am a creature of whimsy and my whimsy can often take advantage of me.

The game was relatively difficult for my Fighter/Weapon Master build where it seems my PC always died in difficult encounters.

 

Eventually its the crafting armor and weapons with the essences that saved my epic butt.
