I hope he uses the film for adult themes, like some sort of political commentary on the perfidiously corrupt SLORC, rather than just gore. Good gore, though.

My money's on the baddies being rebels.

And come on, it's Rambo.

I think you are forgetting the subtleties of Rambo [2: First Blood] III, in which the complexities of the Cold War are explored in the latest country-pawn, Afghanistan, through some of the brave patriots against the ethically-challenged USSR invaders. Of course this doesn't preclude the protagonist outrunning bullets, dodging mortars and destroying heavy artillery with small arms.

Rambo is back, and this time, he's christian. And old.

Man, that's a bloody trailer.

NOOoooOOOOoooOOO.

Sigh. Well, I guess he has to pay for his yachts somehow. :yucky:

Huh, so if you open up on someone from point blank range with a .50 caliber machine gun they turn to goo. Good to know.

Incidentally this was what bothered me in the now famous scene with ED209 and Kenny, and "life in the big city". In the extended scene of the Director's Cut, ED209 spends about a minute pumping very high calibre ordnance into Kenny, and the body seems to keep its integrity far too well.

There was some pretty decent explosive blood splatters though.

Great news, everyone! They're making a SIMS movie!

Nothing about this could ever possiblie go wrong.

In better (worse?) news, Matt Damon is ending the Bourne franchise with Ultimatum, which I think is a shame, because the series has been uniformly excellent so far, and Paul Greengrass has spoken hopefully about its future. I don't see them replacing Damon.

There are only three Ludlum Bourne novels. I don't know anything about the Lustbader novels, but Ultimatum is set after Bourne has been married and retired for twenty years. (I assume they will just move the action to a younger protagonist; I haven't read the novel, so I don't know how much this will affect the plot.)

I love the Bourne series, the genre is so much better without the silly trim of the Bond series. I don't care what watches, supercars or supermodels are attached, it's about suspense and story.

And cameras that are entirely unable to stop moving (the second movie, anyway).

The biggest problem with the bond series is that well, the 70s and 80s are long gone. You can't sell it on kitch, or sophisitcation and you can't sell it on macho. Only realism is left, and Bond was always larger than life, and larger than realism.

Trailer for the upcoming adaption of The Golden Compass. It looks pretty epic, and the anti-religion message doesn't really come into play until book 2 of the series so its hard to tell if it screwed that up too badly. I don't like Daniel Craig's beard. Lord Asrial really evoked kind of suave calculating, but that beard just makes him look scruffy.

Everything you say makes sense................. however take a look at Die Another Day 2002 which has all of the kitch, or sophistication (not very macho) and it's the highest grossing film in the history of the franchise????????? (Although if you adjust for inflation that title belongs to Thunderball)

The Bourne franchise certainly had a huge impact on the Bond franchise, as evidenced by the latest Casino Royal.
Chicken or the egg? And it's still only the 8th best Bond film.

I don't understand your comment.

I don't understand how your grading of Casino Royal has anything to do with the observation that the Bond franchise has been influenced by competing, successful films. (I certainly don't understand why it's in eighth place; are you just citing irrelevant gross box-office receipts, or some sort of quality scale?)

However much importance you give the Bond franchise for the "espionage action" sub-genre, the fact is that it is no longer the only or the best example in that sub-genre. Even if other influences are not entire films, like Bourne Supremacy, and just moments or scenes from the same genre, like a gritty Jack Ryan from a Tom Clancy novel-to-film conversion or Schwarzenegger's better rendition of Bond than Bond in True Lies, or even from a completely different genre altogether, such as historical fiction, the fact remains that the Bond franchise is continually being influenced by the society and culture around it.

And I disagree with your chicken-and-egg analogy, too. The last Bond film before Bourne Identity was utter formulaic drivel (even Robbie Coltrane couldn't rescue The World Is Not Enough). The Bond franchise stood on the precipice there; and (to mix metaphors), was on the verge of disapearing up its own arse. Talk about a two-hour multiple-product-placed advertisement! I can't even call it an infomercial, as some of the placements were completely beyond the realms of normal warranty-voidance.)

The Bourne franchise was the best thing that ever happened to the Bond franchise; without it I doubt the Bond franchise would have survived as anything but a kitch specialist market, like a fetishistic rubber-wearing niche in the sex industry, but with less credibility.

I just saw Pirates 3 last night and I have come to the conclusion that the critics are right and wrong, but they are still morons. The critics is right on the account that it is a little too long. They are, however, DEAD wrong on the account that the movie is hard to follow (as they were with the second, and to some extent, the third). The plot of all three movies is cookie cutter clear, and how anyone can say "it's hard to keep up with" is completely beyond me. I didn't even have to TRY to keep up.

Basically, what I'm saying is, if you found any of these movies hard to follow and complain with witty phrases like "having to keep a scorecard", you are complete and utter moron. I think the reviews of these movies pretty much prove how retarded the world has become.

The writing reminded me a little of a comic book or graphic novel, and no, it wasen't overly complicated or hard to follow. I can't say I was disapointed, it was supposed to be adventure, and, it was.

The whole setup to the end seemed kinda weak though, there is a whole armada from the Dutch east india complany, and then suddenly there isen't because they lose one ship. Doesen't make any sense, way too easy a victory.
