What if...

Because Obsidian's forum community would die along with the business, I was wondering to where you would all migrate.

I also think this thread should serve as a brainstorming thread for preparation of this worst-case scenario*. i.e. I want the regulars to migrate to the same place. Any ideas in that regard?

I would like to say I am loyal to Obsidian Entertainment, but I don't feel like taking that step because I really can't tell at this point if they are worth my loyalty. If their next game is great, then I will be a fanboi, but until then I am here because the community is funny and entertaining.

*Actually, the worst-case scenario would be if Obsidian made lame games and was still in business, so we'd probably still be here and inadvertently support a company that was lame.

I frequent numerous forums:

I'm a big guy on the internet, I'll have you know.

I would end up spending a lot less time online if these forums disappeared. I do visit several others, but I spend more time here than on all the others combined.

This is actually my secondary forum. My primary is a Nine Inch Nails board I joined when I was a young'un, and my tertiary is a swirling hellhole of a "forum" dedicated to Ministry, that I joined before that. I'd probably just retreat further into ETS (the NIN forum).

But quite frankly, losing the Obsidian forums would be the furthest thing from my mind in the event of the company going out of business. I'd be more preoccupied with who would make quality CRPGs in their stead, and where the staff would end up post-dissolution.

If they went out of business (I hope not), the team would try, try, try again. It's better than before the internet, when the only news one had about their favorite developer was in a magazine, and feedback was limited to phone calls or snail mail, and later on dial-up bulletin boards. I used to get sound drivers from Creative's old BBS, until the Internet finally went public.

I would migrate to US and kill all the Obsidian employers I could find, because they had betrayed me.

This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.

I'm only here for the Neverwinter Nights 2 discussion and the invite-only private porn forum.

Well said, Deraldin. You have spoken what is in the hearts of us all. I know this is a grim topic, but I feel it must be discussed, like talking about the will of a relative.

Now let's decide on a failsafe forum to migrate to in the ever-so-small chance that this forum dies. TADS* will house some refugees, but we'll need a more permanent solution. I like Hurlshot's idea about joining the forums of whatever company Sawyer goes to.

*For those of you that are worried about OE's imminent death, here is the beta-failsafe site, The Atomic Danger Squad. Maybe bookmark that or something. But I warn you about going there needlessly, as it is not for the faint of heart.

I have a feeling most of us would pop up at whatever company JE Sawyer landed at. I'm not trying to be a kiss ass, but unless he totally changed gears, his games would still probably attract most of us.

Actually the only reason I registered on these boards and continued staying here was because I wanted to annoy everyone with the issue of Project Jeffersons ressurection...

The funniest thing is that I put so much pressure on Sawyer that he decided to make a NWN2 module out of it (I know, it was his own decision and I have nothing to do with that, but I sure did send him a dozen PMs about that subject). hehehehehe

I'd probably shift back over to the Superhero Hype boards again. I've been a member there for almost as long as I've been a member of the BIS/IPLY/OBS community, but not nearly as active. I think it would be a sad day if this community dissolved, since its pretty much been my home on the internet for almost 10 years.

I guess it'd be the last of a long line of forum migrations. I've been with "them" since the BIS vBulletin boards. But everything has become so watered down since then. Everything is less... exciting; both the board dynamics and the personalities of people. Rose-coloured lenses?

TBH I'd stop viewing game forums altogether. I'm only really here in the hope that Obs will strike it lucky and make a truly great RPG - something that hasn't happened for a while with any company, IMHO - but if I had to place bets, they'd be on Obsidian to do that.

Nowadays, I'm here for that same reason. Internet-personality thing ran out of gas a long time ago and now I'm present just for developer crumbs and when the occasions when I have nothing better to do hit me.

Edit: I'd probably keep posting on TADS and go back to TTLG. It's been a while.

I would cry a thousand tears, for it would be my worst fear, then I would have to get drunk on beer and end up somewhere not here. :*

I think the WOF would be pretty clean from newcomers.. since it's a place that takes some adaption! :*

in case of Obs closing, I would feel a little emptier inside.. It's the first and only board I've ever been part of for more than 2 months.. and it'll probably be the last as well..

What if the boards become massive and bloated due to Obsidian's success?

I would jump for joy, and pounce on the newbies one my one, shoving pastries and pianos down their gullet! :*
