This is a good question. If this is the case, then I will most definitely wait to purchase the OS. CoM_Solaufein Posted March 5, 2007 Share Posted March 5, 2007 I think it sucks. My parents just bought a new computer and I was at their house helping them set it up. That security prompt comes up any time any type of change happens on the machine. Any time you install new software it prompts you to accept or deny. This computer came bundle in a package with a printer. Problem is the software for it is for Win98SE, 2000, ME and XP and not Vista. It would not install because Vista would not allow it so I had to go and use the default printer setting that came with Vista. There were some start up programs my mom wanted me to remove, she considered them annoying, but there is no Run feature to get you to MSCONFIG. XP works just fine by me. It boots up faster, programs open and close faster, and the such. So far the only game that is giving me any headache in the slow down department since the RAM increase is NWN2 and that is probably because the game really needs to be better optimized. metadigital Posted March 12, 2007 Share Posted March 12, 2007 Try adding a ReadyBoost™ certified USB 2.0 Memory drive (>256MB; 2GB is optimal); it's not a super enhancement (yet) but it is going to start being a good accelerator for Memory caching (instead of using the harddrive). *confused* Why not just get more RAM instead? Doesn't that eliminate the need for memory caching? ReadyBoost is for hardisk-cashing. Windows Vista - It still crashes, but now you enjoy it. Try pulling out the cable modem without telling Vista: instant BSoD! Even if you tell Vista via the "remove hardware" wizard (in the menu bar), there is still a 50% chance of BSoD. It also seems to take twice as long to shutdown ... though this might be a lot of (secretly) pre-loaded detritus from Compaq. I expect the new Vista design will fruit as soon as a threshold is reached (probably a critical mass of DX10 games). Sand Posted May 18, 2007 Share Posted May 18, 2007 Well, I went back to XP for my store baught PC. The lil' Sempron just couldn't handle Vista all that well. The new computer will be here within a month and it will have a much better processor than a Sempron 3400.
