How bad was your day?

Recommended Posts

I am aware that this is generally a gaming forum, but this is also a "community", as some will say, and I personally believe that if we are truly a community, we will excercise our capacity to air concerns and anxieties with a willing and engaged listener.

Thus, I have taken it upon myself (after much deliberation) to create this thread, so that we might come together as a community and support one another, in a spirit of fellowship. I may be a relative n00b, but still, maybe this place could benefit from a little bit of teh emo. Srsly.

In essence, just come here and talk about what pissed you off recently, or how ****ed your day was, or what frustrates you. Could be something minor, like losing a few bucks or missing an appointment, or something pretty big, like the disintregation of a relationship, or losing a job. Maybe you stepped on a nail. Maybe you left your windows open during a rainstorm. Maybe that game that you were waiting so long for and wanted so bad, got axed by a blundering parent company, and your favorite developer house got demolished. Whatever, somebody can probably relate. Open up a bit, maybe people will weigh in a bit. That's ultimately what I'd hope to accomplish with this thread and its wordy introduction. Because if there's anything any forum needs, it's a touchy-feely, support group atmosphere

Seriously, I'm going out on a limb here. This thing could sink or swim, it all depends on whether or not you guys are willing to share. ****ty things happen every day to everyone, and it probably helps one's disposition to talk about it with people, through the wondrous mask of the internets! If you've got something to say, say it. There should be plenty of room here for multiple accounts of woe.

I suppose I'd better practice what I preach, so I'll start it off by saying that I'm 20 years old, and lately I can't seem to keep my affairs in order like a man of my age should ostensibly do. I'm missing appointments, I'm behind a week or two in college, and I haven't got a job. Today, I bombed an Ethics quiz. I'm getting pretty tired of living the life.

ConvoKiller87: My car is dead.

kryoxer: I watched a George Lucas flick without blowing out the telly.

ConvoKiller87: Seriously I think I'm gonna cry.

ConvoKiller87: I can't get to school or work without the car.

ConvoKiller87: If I can't get to school I'm out $11k

ConvoKiller87: That I'll have to pay back.

ConvoKiller87: Also it's looking like I didn't get the job I wanted.

ConvoKiller87: And my **** friend who didn't even dress nice for the interview and did everything regarding the job at the very last minute did.

ConvoKiller87: I hate my life.

kryoxer: Okay, what's the problem with the car? I mean, can't you, like, get someone to fix it?

ConvoKiller87: I have no idea what the problem is.

kryoxer: It's okay, Jim, I'll help you write goth poetry bout defecations'n'regurgitations.

ConvoKiller87: Mechanic said the alternator loked like it was working right.

ConvoKiller87: Said to replace the battery 'cause it was old.

ConvoKiller87: Replaced the battery.

ConvoKiller87: Worked alright for a little bit.

ConvoKiller87: Then the battery went out.

ConvoKiller87: Then it went out again.

ConvoKiller87: Then I got it started again and was driving home.

ConvoKiller87: Lights start dimming.

ConvoKiller87: Driving home some more, people flashing their brights in my eyes because they think I'm too dimwitted to know that my lights aren't working.

ConvoKiller87: AutoTransmission starts failing.

ConvoKiller87: Driving along thirty miles an hour.

ConvoKiller87: Manage to get it within a stone's throw from my house.

ConvoKiller87: Entire car dies.

ConvoKiller87: *sob*

kryoxer: Eh, like, I know virtually nothing about cars. So, uh, have you phoned the mechanic-person?

ConvoKiller87: Not yet.

ConvoKiller87: It's ten til midnight here.

kryoxer: Ah. Do you have a bike?

ConvoKiller87: I think I'll just junk it and buy another POS on borrowed money.

ConvoKiller87: Bike isn't feasible Baley.

ConvoKiller87: 'Merikuh remember.

ConvoKiller87: School is over forty miles away, work is twenty.

kryoxer: Yeah, you can get there in an hour by bike, right? I mean, you can cycle on the outskirts of the freeway or something, I don't know.

ConvoKiller87: Not really.

ConvoKiller87: And to get to school in an hour by bike would mean I'm going roughly 45MPH.

ConvoKiller87: I am not a cyclist Baley.

kryoxer: OKay, then an hour and a half, it still beats going broke by 20.

ConvoKiller87: Can't get between there and work in that time.

ConvoKiller87: That'd be sixty five miles.

ConvoKiller87: I get off work at 3:30.

ConvoKiller87: School starts at six.

ConvoKiller87: I'm screwed.

kryoxer: How many days of school can you afford to miss? Or classes.

ConvoKiller87: One more before I get in an unspecified amount of trouble.

ConvoKiller87: Already missed two.

kryoxer: Yeah, you're pretty much screwed.

Your car's generator is broken.

Anyhow, I ordered a PSU for my computer five weeks ago. I still haven't gotten it. Today I phoned a consumer guide lawyer (or something like that) and asked her what I can demand of the company that has kept telling me "it will be here.. tomorrow.." for the last five weeks. I can demand my money back. Nothing else. SO basically, they've stolen five weeks of potential gaming/working/surfing/internet porn from me, and I can't demand anything from them, except my own money back. That pisses me off.

Excuse me, I have to go and buy some gasoline. I have a building to burn.

I work in the 3rd busiest subway in BC. We're located at the main skytrain station connecting to Simon Fraser University, meaning every 15 minutes we get a busload of about 80 students coming through. We only get about 10 of those per bus, but it adds up. Anyway, the manager was too shortsighted to realize it would be crazy busy once school started, AND half our staff were students, meaning they couldn't work weekdays once school started. So now its the busiest time of the year, and if it was the slow time of the year, we'd still be understaffed. And because of that I have to get up at 6 in the morning to get to work because someone called in sick tomorrow.

I'm used to going to bed around 3am so I couldn't get to sleep at 10pm when I was sposed to to get 8 hours of sleep. Its now 3am and I can't sleep.

I have to get up in 3 hours to go to work in the 3rd busiest Subway in BC, during peak hours, understaffed.

And the assistant manager is away for 3 weeks so I'm in charge while the manager goes off to do her thing.

Um, I'm slowly losing my vision and am convinced that my life is going to end up mirroring the film "The 40-Year-Old Virgin", but without the movie stars and jokes about people doing horses.

Other than that, life's good. I'm missing the point of it all, but it's ok so far.

I have had bad days for weeks now. Consequence of running experiments in an unfamiliar area. You get all the data collected and realise a new depth of understanding and have to start over. Damned annoying, but necessary, I suppose.

Well, apart from finding out that the hot chick I was sorta jonesing after is in a relatively tight relationship already, not much bother me right now. I mean, other than finding that I'm obsessively compulsive and have been for about decade now.

Oh, and I missed British History class. One excuse gone, one to go.

I anticipate a great day. I'm going to drive to school in my car, that runs great, then, I'm going to go to my first hour whic is basically just me playing guitar, then I'll go to my other classes, ask this girl I like to the dance comming up in a week, and then I'll come home, and I probably won't have to work, and my CDs will arrive that I ordered from Amazon, and then I'll go buy Lego Star Wars II and play it the rest of the day.

I'll get back to you at the end of the day for comparison.

I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips. I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my viens. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk, and free throw. I am there.

If your day goes like this I'm going to hate you so much.

Right now my day looks like it's gonna be walking out to my car in a few hours and seeing if anything is noticeably exploded. Trying to convince it to limp to the mechanic's on a leap and a prayer...calling a tow if it doesn't. Calling in to work, and oh boy they're gonna be pissed off at me but what can you do--and then trying to come up with a ride to school so I don't flunk my classes and lose all the monies I put into it.

Hate life so much right now.

Feng, your alternator is dead. A rebuilt should cost from 100$ to 400$, depends on the model of your car. Plus about 50$ for labor. I don't know if you can get a boost from another car but maybe it could get you that extra push you need to make it to a garage. Don't go to the same mechanic that told you your "alternator looks ok" as those symptoms are classic alternator troubles, which makes him(or her) an @$$.

As for my bad days, well pretty much everyday is 8 hours of crap as I REALLY despise my job.

I work in a factory, part of a chain and as anyone who has experienced such things knows, it is extreme routine.

When I took this job I was told that I would be eventually doing 3D modeling of furniture and some creative design was promised to me. I've been here 2 years and although I've been trained on Solidworks by the company, the 3D modeling is now somebody else's job(yes, they wasted about 5000$ on my training). And it's not because I'm incompetent(I am not) but rather bad organization within the company during these troubled times in the manufacturing industries.

So, what I'm trying to do now is find another job better suited for my talents, with better pay(I can't support a family with 12$CAN/hour). But I am finding out that I also really need a better education in order to get a better job. But I can't get a better education without a better salary.

I really feel screwed by life when I think about these things.

Thankfully I have my lovely wife who can simply make me forget about all this crap with just a smile. I love you sweety!

Currently 5:45 am... still haven't gotten to sleep. Not going to bother, 45 minutes of sleep will just make me feel drunk. I'll just suck back a 4 pack of red bull.

Haven't had a decent nights sleep in about a week .. meaning I'm close to hallucinating and generally acting out.. just said goodbye to my most dearest of friends (for 7 months) who've kept me sane/on a wire through this last year of manic behaviour.. had a semi-depression ..

but it's okay actually.. life is a generous gift that I would never trade in.. even though it's a hard bargain some days..

and Dark_Raven I know how you feel .. 10 years ago I lost my dad .. You heal! but never let yourself forget how the wound felt! that pain will make you able to walk through life smiling when most others only see darkness!

I feel for you Oerwinde. I couldn't sleep properly all last week. When you are used to going to bed at 3am or later and then transition into going back to school and having to be awake at 7am it really screws with your sleep schedule. Thankfully I'm finally back to normal. I actually woke up before my alarm went off yesterday!)

Eh, I watched him test it myself and saw the reading on the voltometer. The battery I had in it was from September '01 so at that point in time the alternator did look okay. Not to mention the first problem the car had was the alternator and it had to be rebuilt then, grease on the ball bearing in it dried up and it froze as a consequence.

Just got chewed out by my boss over the phone for not being able to make work ("Jim it's always something or other with you. *click*"). Sure I live farther away than anyone save the owner, and sure I drive a POS, and sure I go to school sixtyfive miles in the other direction and I'm cramming as many things as I can into the day, but y'know, god forbid my car break down or I get stuck in traffic because of an accident.

Still haven't figured out how to get to school.

Oh yeah, today's starting off good.

Grass Valley has quite possibly the worst public transportation in the world. It'd only get me to the next town over before I have to transfer, I'd have to transfer a third time to get in the same city as school. The in town transportation starts running at 8AM and stops running at 6PM. The in town stuff only stops at each stop every hour. (I'm not sure if this is normal as I've never really lived anywhere else but it is inconvenient.) To get to school it'd be quicker to ride a bike as Baley suggested. To get to work it's feasible but only on day shifts, night shifts I'd only be able to go one way.
