One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the galaxy. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips. I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my viens. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk, and free throw. I am there.

Wait a minute...

That isn't an epic poem!

I mean, thanks.

That's no epic. Epic poems usually begin in medias res, include action on a grand scale, have a central hero(s) with superhuman qualities, and involve the supernatural; such as monsters, gods, etc. Also epic poems usually contain literary inventories, flashbacks, and are written in a lofty, majestic style. Ha.

Dolts. Am I wrong, friends? Am I wrong?

Epic poetry. I've read a lot of it. It involves a book with a bunch of words written on it. It originally evolved from oral poetry, which means folks stood around in each others living rooms or around a fire and recited long lines of the stuff to each other.

Ha! They didn't have "living rooms" back then Mr. McWrong.

Epic poetry is da bomb! Just look at what it's given us: The Iliad, The Odyssey, Beowulf, Paradise Lost...
