Bao-Dur's character

Recommended Posts

You thought that was hard?!?!

You only need about 3 influence gains w/ him. On the first planet u travel to u should get him to a jedi.

It's just a little hard when you play darkside and want to gain influence with him...

"Revan was power. It was like staring into the heart of the Force. Even then, you could see the Jedi he would slay etched on his soul."

I liked the character alot but this character could have been alot more.

With his history with the Eile and the Mandalorian wars they should have done more with him.

I personally liked Bao-Dur. But I suppose one can like/dislike him depending on how you presumed your (Exile's) former association with him in the War.

Since the Exile was a general and Revan as an Admiral, and I refused to take that my character was a whimp, I presumed that while Revan was a brilliant strategist, Exile was more or less equal to Revan, but was more talented as a general leading small squads of specialists (Bao-Dur included of course) for special operations (and frankly, the whole Mass-Shadow Generator business sounds like a special operation to me). In this setting, I envisioned that Exile's association with Bao-Dur was fairly close.

With that assumption, I had a great time with Bao-Dur on the team as a "silent" member (more like "Mr. Spock" of Ebon Hawk for me), since the Exile and Bao-Dur knew each other so well direct conversations were rarely needed. And as an engineer and a former special-force veteran who had seen "too much", I found his silence relatively believable.

(heh, my second playthrough on Telos surface (not polar region), I even left Atton with Kreia at the crashed shuttle, and stormed the mercenaries and the old military base with Bao-Dur.... just like the "old" times))

Having said all that, I was really disappointed that an engineering genius such as he didn't make himself a special "gun" to even the odds when he was fighting Czerka guys alone on Telos. I half-expected that he'd made himself a repeating blaster that allows him to shoot faster (rapid shot), and longer range and higher power, etc.

Also, I was lightside and I still couldnt get him to go jedi. Until I came to this forum I didnt even know that was possible. The only thing I could ever say to him was "Never Mind"

That pissed me off SOOOOO much!!!!

I was missing a lens, and wouldn't let me build a lightsaber.  I even used a savegame editor to give myself every lens in the game, but he still said I was missing one.

Dude, you need the lens fixture from that guy you find in a room in the bottom of the jedi enclave on Dantooine. The actual lenses are only for customization and bonuses (like the crystals)

Regarding the Krath Holy Battle Armor, that was my team armor for, like, the entire second half of the game. Every single character who could wear medium armor I put with Krath Holy. It was so cool. For some reason I felt like I had my own personal army with standard armor.

the no part is totally creepy...

bao-dur was a great character. he didnt want to talk about the war which is why he doesnt tell you any war stories. i like his voice cause it had a nice sarcastic tone to it. especially on nar shadda when he says. "i'll take the stupid one who decided to speak instead of shooting when he had the chance." all in all he was a pretty well developed character but i would have liked to know a little bit more about his back story from before he joined the war.

Because of all the destruction Bao-Dur has seen and caused, i figured it's natural that he's taciturn. The exile and Bao-Dur bonded without talking much, just because of the history they had: being in a war together.

Bao-Dur obviously felt bad about what he had done. He was no Canderous who sought war and thought it was glorifying. So for Bao-Dur to be realistically sane, it is right that he doesn't say much or speak about the war often. Traveling alone a lot makes you reserved and thinking rather than saying like he does.

Plus it's fun having your own Darth Maul in your party running around and chopping off limbs with you.

Here's a guy who had fantastic potential...but just wasn't flipped out enough in the end. Being a 3-line-wonder on the Ebon Hawk didin't help his cause too much either.

Facts:

1. Ninjas are mammals.

2. Ninjas fight ALL the time.

3. The purpose of the ninja is to flip out and kill people.

If there was a background that led to his story of how he operated as a tech in the Mandalorian Wars with the Exile on Malachor, which would involve which homeworld or planet he came from, the character would have been much deeper.

Deep from within...

  • 2 weeks later...

I wish he had more depth to him. I love his voice and I think he had a lot of potential.

What the heck is up with the prima guide saying that he might "sacrifice his life for me"? That was never played out. It pissed me off how Kreia wouldn't talk to me about him at the end. She said he was "cloudy" again but I guess that's because he was dead according to cut content.

And what is the point of going through the trouble to point out that Kreia can't read Bao-Dur's mind?

I loved his relationship with the Exile (re: mandalorian Wars) and the mutual respect that is shared between them. His voice was awesome...and I would rehash old lines just to hear him again... :( I loved his character, and had him with me the majority of the time. As a Jedi, he is pretty unstopable o:)

The one thing that really irks me, is that there could have been so much more done with him, and a romantic interest would have been brilliant... HA...Imagine Attons disgust at more competition... :p

MORE plot?

"Nevermind"...

I like how Bao Dur seems to be important somehow. I think people have realized the fact that Kreia can't seem to read Bao Dur's mind but the Exile can. Also you basically learn everyone's fate but Kreia says that Bao Dur's path is unknown, hmmm....

I think that's more to do with the fact that he's dead according to the cut content. She says he is "cloudy". I guess the part that she can't read his mind is supposed to be foreshadowing of the fact that he's really the one who kills her plans and makes sure she loses. She could have lived with the Exile killing her, Kreia's own life was never that important to her. She had loftier goals than rulling the world. She wanted to RUIN it. She didn't forsee Bao-Dur deciding to destroy his mass shadow generator and therefore destroying the planet and all her plans.

I see it as she just doesn't care about a lowly technician and that is what kills her. I also wish Atton had some way to redeem himself like getting her back for the way she treated him, but oh well.

Well if you ignore the cut content, it's cut content afterall, he still seems mysterious. If Kreia doesn't care about a lowly tech why care about the others? I'm sure she doesn't care about the others if she doesn't care for Bao Dur.

I meant care as in she overlooks him. She goes through the trouble of wondering why she can only read pazaak from Atton's thoughts. If you ask her about not hearing anything from Bao-Dur I'm pretty sure she makes some reference to him being an alien and just passes it off.

people will either love or hate Bao -Dur depending on what they see in him. I personally liked him because I wanted other species jedi in my party and he was a tech wiz. I think Kreia overlooks him because she cannot read his mind as she does the others...which I now see D Murda mentioned. anyway this may play a role in KOTOR 3. He amy not be a NPC, but maybe a key plot character. His anger could lead him down the the path of the dark side...just a thought.

Off topic slightly....As much as I love Bao-dur...he is starting to irk me in my new game...whatever I do, I just cannot get him to become a jedi...Disciple was no probs, and Atton was a little bit more tricky...but Bao-dur? This time round he is near impossible!!!

How much can you possibly influence him? I have done loads, and he is not far off 100% LS, but still no go....I will probably have better luck with Mira...although I so wanted Bao-dur in my Jedi team :nuke:

But, as a character, you just got to love him...I love deep the connection that he has with the exile, and I believe that he is the only one that truly understands her...and that he is behind her 100% no matter what (lol, okay, I always play LS female....) :D

Besides, you just gotta love those horns :nuke:

Bao-Dur wasn't very cool in KOTOR II. If they only would've allowed Jedi Robes and more strength to him.

He is a quite dull character in my opinion. His voice sounds gentle and a little creepy at the same time. If only he were more like Canderous.

(Just so everybody knows, Mandalore IS Canderous. Kreia spills it at the end of the game if you ask her about Mandalore's fate.)

"Canderous is a slippery beast...." or something like that. :-

Sorry bit of a spoiler there...my bad.
