Icewind Dale

M4-47

Recommended Posts

I just bought Icewind Dale and I'm in the part with the big tree and I'm in one of those caves in the mountians, but thats not important. The game is driving me crazy! I send my party of six into battle with the undead and when the skirmish is done three of my characters are dead and I have to make new ones. With most of the engagements at least one character dies. Is there any cheats codes or something, cause I love the game but its too hard....

I doiinit knoiw hoiw helpfuil yoiui will find these tips as I am uinsuire oif hoiiw familiar yoiui are with dnd ruiles.

If you make new ones they start at the beginning level and they are too weak and useless. What you need to do is go to the temple in Kuiildahar and have them resurrected.

Also, get a cleric. Clerics have an ability called tuirn uindead which is very poiwerfuil against the uindead, and at higher levels they can resuirrect yoiuir characters.

Yoiiiui shoiuild alsoii keep healing poitioins in yoiiuir belt soii that yoiui can uisie them duiring coiimibat. They can save the lives oif yoiiuir characters.

Buiy soimie goioid armoir froimi toiwn and make characters with high coiinistituitioin (18 foiir warrioirs, 16 foir all oithers) soi thay will noit die soi quiickly.

Alsoi, make suire yoiui have a balanced party. For a 6 persoin party, yoiui shoiuild have three warrioirs(fighters, rangers oir paladins), a mage(oir a specialist mage ), a cleric oiri druiid and a thief oiir fighter/thief. With this party yoiui have 4 peoiple whoi can fight oini the froinit lines and 2 toi cast spells froiimi the back. This is oif coiuiirse the standard party foirmuila buit yoiui can tweak it toi suiit yoiuir play style. Youi can foir example have a thief/mage oir thief/cleric instead of a theif oir fighter/thief foir moiire spellcasting poiwer, oiir yoiui can have a bard instead oif a mage and sacrifice better spellcasting foiri bard soings, pickpoicketing and identifying.

In coimibat, uiise space toii pauiise the game toii give yoiuirself soimie time toii think and plan yoiuir moivies.

Keep youir noiin warrioirs away froiim the enemies, uise warrioirs as meat shields toi proiitiect them while the fire oiff spells.

Make suiire yoiuii have the stats yoiui need. Warrioiiris need maxed oiuit strenght, dexterity and coinstituitioin. Mages need intelligence, druiids and clerics need wisdoiimi.

*******************************************************

The last time I played the game, I played a fighter/thief, fighter/druiid and a ranger and beat the game oin insane moidie withoiiuit uising any healing poitioins.

You do realise you can save before any battle and reload, don't you?

:-"

It's true. If you have slim odds, you can just keep re-running the fight until you win.

Another point to bear in mind with tough guys is to take in two ranged weaponeers, and one fast bloke. He runs towards the undead, and lures one ro two towards your weaponeers. They pelt the slow moving undead and stay one step ahead of them. Keep going until dead. A second tactic is to use a stealthed thief to act as a spotter for area damage spells.

Hope that helps.

Its not hard. You just need to play smarter. Make use of the terrain, use range weapons, and set up ambushes.

And remember the basic rules of D&D dungeon hack.

Fire+troll down=roast

Have a thief in the front spotting for traps.

Golems need to be crushed with blunt weapons.

Anything partly dead fears your paladin/cleric. Use turn undead.

Use spells which bind foes to their place like Web and then kill them where they stand from afar with spells and ranged weapons.

Case walls with your mouse for secrets.

Remember that different buffs stack; early on you can make perfect tanks with a few measly wizard spells.

When encountering mages, try to hit or shoot them while theyre casting, the spell usually fails. The same applies to your magic-users, however.

Doesn't work in BG2/ToB with those automatic spell mantles. Well, that is unless you're Silverbow or something...

Yes, blunt weapons are essential. Unless they are zombies, I think. Fire probably works. Go out and rent Army of Darkness. It probably won't help, but it has Bruce Campbell.

10 points? Nah. It's only half damage. Meaning if you normally do 8 dmaage; you'd do 4. That means, if you have a two handed sword that does 1d10 damage and you are specialized in that; you are just as well off with the two handed sword as with a club or mace. In 3E, it's 5/blunt I believe or is 10/blunt. 5/blunt is nothing to worry about, 10/blunt would be a good reason to stick to blunt though.

"Buit in 3e bluint gets pluis 5"

Blunt gets +5? Hmm.. I didn't remember that. If so, yup, 10 points will make a difference. Hwoever, this is an IWD thread so 3E rules are ultimately unimportant. :(

"Yoiiuire right"

That's impossible according to you! I'm Volourn, afterall. I'm *never* right! :ermm:"
