OBS-4 Diplomacy

Recommended Posts

I will be your host. (I prefer to be contacted via [http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?act=Mail&CODE=00&MID=7008]email[/url])

The seven players are (click on the link to PM them):

PM Kaftan - Borg: and

PM Archie - Dominion (Jem Hadar) and

PM Jags - Federation and

PM Calax - Klingon and

PM Baley - Romulan and

??? - Ferenghi and

PM Bokishi - Cardassian (can move long and short)

I shall send the email addresses of each of you to each of you, shortly (apart from Numbers, who hasn't supplied an email address, so I assume this means he prefers PMs).

The map is:

startrekdip.gif

Star Trek game 1 (English rules)

German Addenda.

Start Positions (color coded on the map):

  • Borg: 0815, 4711
Cardassia: Cardassia Prime, Cardassia Secondus, Cardassia Tertius
    Dominion: Omarion, Karemma, Brax
Ferengi: Ferengi, Zeta Maxia, Volchok Prime
Federation: Earth, Vulcan, Alpha Ceti, Beta-Zed
    Klingon: Q'onos, Khitomer, Boreth
    Romulan: Romulus, Remus, Algeron

The solid starscape represents the short distance terrain ("land" armies), and the darker, open spaces are long distance terrain (traversed by "water" units, i.e. fleets).

This is a restriction on visibility in effect, so you will only know where your own units are (with a few exceptions, as noted below).

Please bear with me and I shall post the complete set of rules below. (This is quite a complex -- and significantly different -- game to the standard diplomacy.)

On the map, could we have a definition of where our space is other than just the supply centers?

Borg are the copper spheres in the upper left.

Dominion are the red spheres in the upper right.

Cardassian are the gold spheres in the bottom left.

Ferenghi are the yellow spheres above the Cardassian.

Federation are the blue spheres in the middle.

Klingon are the purplish-pink spheres in the bottom right.

Romulan are the green spheres above the Federation and Klingon.

Also, what do the icons on a black background with an 's' in the bottom right corner signify?

I assume the Ferenghi have it to distinguish between military and trade ships. But what of the others? Perhaps Borg assimilated ships? But I still cant thing of a reason for the Dominion to have them. The point of infiltrating enemy units is that the others dont know.

And I find it kind of funny

I find it kind of sad

well what I meant was what areas do I control, there seems to be at least one territory between each of my production centers...

You don't "control" any areas, only supply centers. You either have a presence in a sector, or you don't.

On second thought, I'm dropping out of this one. I've been reading the rules and it doesn't really appeal me. And obviously, I'd rather do this before the game starts.

Sorry folks.

The 's' designates short-range (impulse) vessels, whilst the other indicates long-range (warp) vessels. This is analagous to armies & fleets in standard diplomacy.

Of course, the Cardassians need not worry about this, as their units are capable of both.

different from the regular...

I mean not every province in this has a supply center...

http://img280.imageshack.us/img280/8703/di...acystart6fx.gif

You seem to fail to understand the point of Diplomacy. It is to expand your natoin such that you control a certain predetemined number of supply centers. Each nation starts out with approximately 3 home centers and tries to grow from there. The white centers (on the ST map) are independent centers that can be conquered. And not every area has a supply center both because it would unbalance the game and (in this case) because not every system is habitable.

And I find it kind of funny

I find it kind of sad

The dreams in which I'm dying

Are the best I've ever had

Indeed. The provinces the standard map shows you as controlling is only really to make it look nice. In reality, you don't really control these provinces, as the provide no benefit to you in the game other than their strategic value, which persists only as long as people are moving to it.

You mean today right?

:)

It was dark when I looked outside!

You mean today is tommorrow yet I'm worried about yesterday?!

I didn't know you were in Samoa ...

Ferenghi.

Also, we need to wait for Kaftan to finish getting settled at uni. Finally, Mets, have you finished the rules yet?

1. It is spelt Ferengi. (also: link)

2. Haven't heard from Kaftan, yet.

3. No, not yet. I've been unwell and also had some RL stuff to attend to, so I haven't been as active in the last few days. Should all be done this weekend. :p
