KotoR 3: Ideas and Suggestions

Recommended Posts

In my opinion that power was pointless and quite useless. Why don't they change it with a new all-party buff that will make characters more hard to kill instead of resurecting them?

Anything that might be suggested apart from Force Enlightenment, Force Barrier, Force Immunity and Energy Resistance?

Well, yes. I ment all-party buffs(a buff casted bu one character affects the whole party). The only such buffs are; Force Valor, Energy Resistance, Battle Meditation, and maybe Inspire Followers. Force Barrier and Force Immunity affect only the one who has casted them and no one else. So turning that useless Revialise power into a ALL-PARTY buff that raises vitality and defence, for example, is a good idea.

"Force Huddle", before a fight? Adds one quarter total hitpoints and additionally removes the first five hitpoints of damage from any attack, for sixty seconds (whereupon the Jedi must lead another "Time-Out" Huddle to re-inforce the initial effects). When the spell ends, all damage taken is restored, so if any party members are not at above normal hitpoints end up with dire loss of health.

Another thing might be having enemy AI using Force Breach against LS PCs, as that force power was just sitting on the desk without much involvement in K2. I think it was only used in K1 against your PC when fighting Malak towards the end. Tends to actually work more for DS PCs as they would be fighting LS enemies. The only thing is that it has an individual effect.

All enemies should use more tricks and force powers(if they have). In K2 Kreia and maybe Sion had Force Crush, but didn't use it once. What is the point of having if not to kill ME??

Because, obviously, the AI decided that Kreia casting fifteen Force Valours in a row made better strategic sense than diverting precious AI resources trying to cast different powers and actually fighting in a combat situation.

thinking about how lightsabers are not accurately being reflected also got me thinking about armor.

I hate to keep bringing up Morrowind but, the fact is, it did alot of things right when it comes to immersion. One of the things you had to do is constantly repair (or pay someone else to do the same) your armor.

I would like K3 to have the need for armor and clothing repair....also, the possibility of an appearance-altering scar, etc.

and a really good selection of graphical sprites...either that or a custom sprite toolset (i.e. as in Tiger Woods Golf).

Just a quick thought on any possible K3. I just read David Gaider's Revan fanfic that he wrote a while back for some fans. And even though it wasn't official and it was melodramatic and sappy, I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it even if it was a quick read. Here's why I liked it:

1) It picked up directly following the events of K1.

2) All the characters from our party were accounted for in a way that continued to follow the storytelling narrative that was created in the original KOTOR. This means that Revan, Carth, and Bastila continued to develop as characters and were the main focus of the short story while the other supporting characters, such as Jolee, the droids, Canderous, etc. were all accounted for in ways that made sense and were consistent with what happened in the game.

Canderous disappeared, Mission and Zaalbar went back to Kashyyk with Zaalbar assuming the role of chieftan in his tribe, Jolee returned to the Jedi as a Jedi Master still keeping a watchful eye on Revan, Juhani went to the Senate to lobby against the slave trade and the droids stayed in Revan's service.

There was also a well defined nuance to the main characters. For example, there's a moment between Carth and Bastila when Carth asks her if she still planned on seeing her mother. Bastila, after a heavy moment responds simply, "She died." There was also a similar moment between Carth and Revan when he tells her that Dustil survived and is on Manaan. He's going to go see him and try to makeup for lost time. This is the reason he gives her for leaving Coruscant, even though the real reason he was leaving was because Bastila told him that Revan's future was too important to have any kinds of distractions.

And my personal favorite moment: when Bastila tells Revan that Carth was gone and Revan begins to gaze out the window, being a thousand miles away as she proceeds to tell Bastila that there will be no more parades and no more Jedi Council. That she did what the Council wanted her to do and as far as she was concerned, they were even. This is a great snapshot of that sense of coldness and independence that exists inside of Revan. After everything that's happened, she still does not forgive the Jedi Council for what they did. We don't know what her plans are, but it is clear they do not involve doing the Jedi's bidding. There is a pointed exchange between Revan and Bastila over this.

And this is what I liked the most about the story.. It showed the main characters' human side. It was a very human story. We got to see Revan and Carth's vulnerable sides as they both struggled with their feelings for each other and their devotion to duty. And we got to see, if only briefly, Bastila's struggles as she continued to try to control her emotions and be re-acclamated to the Jedi Order. At the end of this story, we are not left with an ending, but a beginning.

This is the way things should have been IMO (obviously if you played Revan as LS female). In basically just the space of about a page, Gaider succeeded in doing what hours of gaming in K2 could not. He tied up ALL THE LOOSE ENDS. In just a few paragraphs, the fate of all the characters from the first game was tightly addressed but left open for re-use. While at the same time, the fate of the three main characters, Revan, Bastila, and Carth, was left wide open and was dramatically clear that their journey had only just begun. Bastila says as plain as day in the story, "The Sith Empire still exists." Revan's role in the coming was of the utmost importance.

This is vintage Star Wars storytelling, but at the same time was a good example of a true expansion. Because it answered all the questions that the fans wanted to know about the characters from the first game while at the same time, being a preface to something much larger and more epic.

Because as it stands right now, we only got a couple brief cameos from some of the original characters and the fate of the most important character is completely unknown. There was no sense of closure to the first game before we launched headlong into a brand new story. This made it seem like whatever you did in the first game irregardless of how you played it, didn't amount to a hill of beans in K2.

And in the end, all it did was introduce even more loose ends.

right...I do remember an interview in which MCA stated that he doesn't like to use other people's characters and that to do that is to "fake it".

I understand that point of view. However, at the same time, the fans want the original cast to have some key involvement and resolution before the Revan Saga is over.

I hope that K3 wraps up the Revan Saga and gives all the principles of K1 and K2 the kind of resolution that the fans are indeed looking for.

And that includes giving Revan himself that kind of depth and resolution.

K4 cannot be about Revan.

In the beginning of the game, a shadow is falling over a bright city.

A huge space ship of unknown origin is entering the atmosphere of this planet whit thousand of small fighters leaving from inside it. Although the army of that planet strikes back, the huge ship has a weapon capable of rendering any movement of the enemy not able. Something like a EMP pulse, but starwars style :ermm: .

In the other side of the galaxy, a mysterious beeing is looking for a person.

It looks like a android, has a hideous metal like mask over it's face and a part of it's body including all the right hand and a black cape to hide it's scars that can be seen, if you try, on the other side.

The man he is looking for is a child actually.

He stumbles a civillian and starts making a description of that he seeks.

This is the part in wich the customization begins. Well i believe the name should be impossed from the beginning, i choose Arias.

Finaly, he finds what he is looking for and take's the child to he's custody, according to an affair that he and his parents did.

He(the stranger) represent's the possibilitie  of the child to grow up in a far better situation that that is know now.

Arias knows that so he does not fight this decision but he does regrett it(or no, according to his choice).

The ship is small, like a cargo ship, but Arias has the biggest room for his own.

On that ship, name "Valliant Courage", ther are sevral droids, but only one working a t-unit, which is set by the Stranger to obey every command that Arias gives him.(He can be ordered to self-destroy, but that will complicate things very much because the droid will be like air on a mission in the complicated tunnels of the Auknur Labirinth.

The stranger will sleep a lot so sometimes Arias will have to wake him up, but you have to talk a lot with him and make him you're friend because he will teach you many battle styles, defence and attack maneuvres, etc. if you have a great influence over him.

After a few small games on the ship, some training battles against the Stranger, the ship reaches a harbour in the Flas Asteroid Belt.

Here, Arias will be forced into a battle against a robot(remember Arias is a 13 years old child) who is 3 times larger than him who will defeat. After a brief moment of swearing from the Hutts who sought a easy fight for their droid, Arias will have to escape as they decide to enslave him.

Surely he will reach a moment when the Strander, will rescue him, although at this stageof the game you will be able to control only Arias.

They will be followed by the grunts sent by their master Ugli the Hutt, and Arias will have to use the rier gun to keep then away from the ship until they escape from the asteroid belt.

At the moment the Valliant Courage enters warp, the stranger falls from the captains chair and starts losing blood. Arias rushes towards him, but when he gets to him, the Stranger does not breathe anymore. At that time Arias is very scared and opens accidentaly a log in which he see's the Strangers last wish. He obeys it also because the ships fuel reserve is almost empty, they didn't have the possibilitie to refuel in that station in the Flas Belt.

So he enters in the crionic sleep, a more rudimentery quantum sleep, helped by the t-unit i didn't bother to name, or not if you decide to self destroy him thus losing influence points over the Stranger and virtually condaming you on the labirinth level.

This is the first part of my story. If you feel i was to wrong please correct me or contribue to it's later creation.

The choice is youres!

When something is indicated as being of unknown origin, what I am thinking might be that the PC does not yet know about how the ship that you mentioned at the start of your posting would be. Was there something else that you wanted to add to what you mentioned? Some of the things that have been included actually can be explained further, although only you will know what you are trying to describe.

Another thing is the concept of choice, which can actually be specific and it will tend to be based on alignment types (for both dark and light side), in case you were trying to suggest something about that in your discussion.

can't wait for kotor3 to be announced some day. i remember the good old days here with all the speculation and tidbits of info from the developers. good times, good times!

yeah, I think Obsidian will be asked to do it and I think they will use the heavily-modified Aurora engine that they are using for NWN2 to make it. It is, essentially, an engine with improved AI and what amounts to next-gen graphics. The rules are D&D so the rule system could be easily adapted to KOTOR d20.

And I think they will continue with the tradition of making it a "Xbox (360) first, then port to PC several months later" kind of thing.

This is the kind of title MS would love to have available only on their platform, at least at first. MS has already been moving titles intended for Xbox over to Xbox 360.

It might help to have some small scale battles in K3 (not a war). I will use K2 as a way of looking at this: Kath hounds were transported from Dantooine to Nar Shaddaa. I am not sure why OE did this as there could have potentially been some small-scale battles between the kath hounds and the kinrath, especially given that the kinrath population overgrew their territorial space in their cave. There might potentially have been a boss among the kath hounds. (Not actually a boss, but something like an albino kath hound that had genetically augmented abilities) It would have made for an opportunity to gain experience and made for an additional sidequest.

I found that extremely odd as well, surely not all the Kath hounds that had thrived on Dantooine in the first game, would have been either eradicated or "domesticated"?

One thing that really frustrated me in K2 was the "change/unequip weapons" shortcut within the actions bar. Its a nice idea but at times when there was a heated battle and the framerate started doing its stuff I often found I'd suddenly change from a double bladed-lightsaber to an advanced mining laser :)

So, yeah I would definitely prefer the weapon changing system to revert back to that of K1 for the third game.

(Also, what ever happened to the 'transit back to ship' tool?)

I also never want to visit Malachor V again but I guess thats probably been said a lot around here already = ;)

I don't really think there's much scope for another visit to Malachor 5 now anyway, as the Exile either destroyed it or took it over. Its not like they would create a whole game based over one side of the story anyway (the DS path where you keep Malachor), because what would you do LS? ;)

I kind of rambled on there didn't I...

As long as the developers (whoever they be) don't get some silly idea about such an excursion being worthwhile.

I suppose anything could happen really, I mean there is a possibility that the sith academy on Malachor V could yield the PC for the next game. e.g. You start off as a student at the academy and you could quite easily be 'enlightened' or you could carry on embracing the dark side. I know its unlikely but you never know...

I'm wondering if (assuming they ever make K3) they shouldn't just go with the canonical LS endings for Revan and the exile just to simplify continuation. I mean, if you go with a new PC in K3, you have 4 different character combinations for Revan and the Exile (8 total!). It'd be a writer's hell. I'm thinking maybe they should keep the gender optional but fix the alignment for the two. It'd piss off a number of fans, but it'd make continuation a lot easier.

That would be some development, and I'm sure lucasArts would be willing to give the developers plenty of time and money to do this ;)"

It would be interesting though, did anyone ever manage to retrieve all the endings on Silent Hill, made the game worth playing plenty of times.

Malachor 5 no longer exits.....it is essentially an asteroid field now. However, I think K3 does need to discuss it quite a bit....K2 introduced an ancient Sith world that is just as significant as Korriban and Ziost....they cannot just walk away from it....we need much more in the way of the backstory of that planet....perhaps there are other Sith worlds in that system....that would make sense and would be a direct tie-in to K3.

(note: I realize that K1 mentioned Malachor 5 first but there was no hint of it being an ancient Sith stronghold/training academy).

I think at this point it will be necessary to determine what becomes canon for KOTOR I and II if we want things solved in III. Personally, I think canon will be Revan being LSM and Exile being LSF, but that's just me...

What I am thinking for K3 is regarding the weapon toggling option if you have two sets of weapons. Weapon swapping tends to work well with PCs that have high Dex and have finesse feats with either or both melee and lightsabers. If K3 could make the feat of finesse lightsabers available to the Watchman/Assassin, it might make for a slightly varied style of playing, given that Dex is a main attribute of these classes. (Weapon toggling can be both irritating and flexible)

Yeah Malachor was mentioned in K1, i think it's Candarous that tells you about it in one of his war stories. I'm pretty sure anyways, i havent played K1 in a loooong time.

And just an idea i thought up, to choose which gender/alignment Revan and the Exile were. It could be like the epilogue, where you play the Handmaiden(or of course Disciple).

Handmaiden/Disciple are teaching some Jedi Padawans about the history of the Jedi, and you tell them about Revan and the Exile and their exploits and all that stuff.

OR

Handmaiden/Disciple are in the Jedi Archives and enter the stuff about Revan and Exile into the computer.

This takes place either in the rebuilt Jedi academy on Dantooine or in the Jedi temple on Coruscant.(Most likely Dantooine though)
