problems on averatec laptop

so i bought swkotor2, began installing it, and was told several times before inserting next disc that the wrong disk was in the drive, after inserting disk one, asked to insert disk 3, 4. this may be the beginning of my problems, but who knows. let me first say that my graphics card (intel 82852/55 gm/gme) does not allow me to view movies. odd, considering the fact that my card is 64 mb when only 32 is required. i believe where i encounter problems is the open GL requirement. mine is intel 1.3 while open gl generic 1.4 is required.

 

anyway in kotor1 this was not a problem since i simply disabled the movies. this is also what i intended on doing kotor2, however after hitting the "game" button on the launch screen, i receive a "wrong cd: insert cd/dvd" error. (and yes, i am using the play disk, no it is not scratched) after reading some wonderful forums on this site, i decided to use a no cd patch since, after all, i did purchase the game legally, and reading the play disk seemed to be my computers problem.

 

enter problem number two: though i had disabled movies in the configure menu and in the kotor ".ini" file, the no cd crack obviously didnt read these changes, and decided to play the movies anyway. oddly enough, the "legal" bink movie plays fine, but after i create a character and hit "play", my window is minimized and my computer shuts off the game automatically.

 

my friend and i just graduated and have both taken interest in the kotor games, and he has a new dell laptop. the play disk will also not read in his cd drive after installing, however i do not believe it is a problem with the cd because it works flawlessly on his family's desktop.

 

i am extremely excited to start this game and am going to be extremely dissapointed if i cant. is it impossible on my averatec laptop? please reply...

I think it's because integrated cards are crap. kotor1 only needed 1.3 to play so you could get away with it but I think it's the fact that you don't have opengl 1.4. I played kotor1 fine on my dad's laptop even with movies(yes, he had an intel integrated graphics chip) but I seriously doubt I could run kotor2 on it.

Are you using the latest version of Kotor2? If yes, then it may be a problem with Securom.

 

And integrated graphics should work fine with Kotor/Kotor2. Try updating the drivers yet?

if it is a problem with securom is there anything i can do about it? that would make the most sense because the disk will still autoplay the launch screen when i insert the disk.

 

i went to the intel website and downloaded the latest drivers also, and it didnt help.

Long time reader, first time poster.....

 

I have the same Intel chipset on my Toshiba Tecra A2 laptop. I meet and even surpass all other requirements for the game....but my card is like a bottleneck. What a horrible shame Intel integrated cards are...

 

I have exactly the same problem with this game. New drivers and pretty much everything else does not fix the problem. The reason I am posting is to ask whether Intel knows about this error with this family of chipset. And if they know, have they said that they will attempt to fix it?

 

It would be nice if everyone who has this problem goes to Intel's support site and sends them a quick email. Maybe then they might do something.

The SecurRom problem is related to the "wrong disc" error message. Short of replacing your cd reader or using other questionable methods, it is impossible to fix.

 

As for the Intel chipset problem, there was a thread way back (about half a year) about this topic. To my knowledge, the issue was partially fixed with the new patch.

 

You might want to try this, though: uninstall KOTOR2 and delete the folder. Reinstall the game, but don't install the newest patch. See if that fixes anything.

I can not stress this enough, when gaming on a PC, the most important component is a good video card.

The readme says those cards are unsupported - ofcourse I'd try it anyway.

 

Firstly for other potential laptop players, buy a computer with a decent card - like an "nVidia GeForce (blah)" or "ATI Radeon (blah)". Obviously it costs more so you'd need to prioritise whether you want it as a work laptop or desktop replacement.

 

Anyway, it could be your optical drive - I've had my share of poorly made laptop DVD drives from Dell. That was a few years ago but my cousin recently bought one and the problem is still around.
