I find that text based online games tend to foster more roleplaying and description than graphical interfaces, which lend themselves more easily to combat and effects. If we do choose IRC, I would also suggest irc.psionics.net as our server. It is one I have used in the past, and is fairly well known among the IRC RPing community. Also, it has dicebots and such built into the network, so once you learn a simple interface, the rolls are completed for you based on your parameters. I started doing it on word, because then maybe I could send it to him that way, but my computer froze and I lost all that I had typed, so I was looking for an easier way.
