You wake up as your twelve year old self

It's October 30, 1975 and . . . hmmmm. First, I'd go outside and run and play and do gymnastics, because I could again!

Other than that, quite honestly, even though it was sheer hell to live through some times, I wouldn't do anything different. I like how my life has turned out at this point, and I wouldn't want to risk jeopardizing it by changing anything.

Except that yeah, I would try to invest in the internet or Microsoft - I remember back in the early 90's thinking "this internet thing is really going to take off." And thinking in the last couple of years "I should have put money in to that. I just knew it!"

Other than that . . . I'd do it all again!

12th birthday? Does it really have to be twelve? I think I'd rather throw myself under a truck than go through my teenage years over again.

Well, let's see... that would make it 1987 and I'd be in grade 6 at the Casablanca American School in Morocco.

Gods. *shudder*

Well, first I'd change my entire wardrobe, because my fashion sense was horrible even for the 80s.

Then I'd probably get to work on writing Harry Potter before JK Rowling got a chance to.

Wow, you're old!

I would crawl into my bed, and mourn the fact that I would not grow past 5', or even have my voice change until the year '04.

Staying in highschool rather than playing hookie and catchup later would probably be a good choice too.

Lets see, when I was twelve the year was ( counts on fingers) '85. The first thing I would do is go into the basement and start bagging up all of the comics that my mother sold in a garage sale when I was fifteen. I'd keep all of my action figures in their cases, as well. After that, I'd try to help out some of my friends who died needlessly, consequences be damned. And i'd tatoo things on myself a la Memento, like 'stay away from girls named Jenny'...

You. Out of this part of the forums, right now. Protect your sanity.

If I were 12 again, I would probably throw myself under a truck as well. I wouldn't want to go through all that sh*t again. I'm happy where I am :) But, if this really did happen, I would probably work on trying to prevent 9/11. Maybe get onto one of the planes that was hijacked and try to stop them. On the years leading up to 2001, I would work out like all hell so I could go onto the plane and kick the crap out of those b*stards. :)

But then again, you would have to bring up the question of whether or not changing the past would be a wise decision. Perhaps all things happen for a reason, and even the most atrocious events must be left to occur. But even so, I would not let something like that happen if I could.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Yeah stop 9/11 like some teen kid could do that. It would be a waste of time.

I know the main thing i'd do, buy to let in the late 90's and just reap the reward of capital appreciation.

I would also not watch spawn, hellboy or any martin lawrence film or Vampires or Barbershop or Blade trinity or matrix revolutions.

I'd get my parents to pull out all my inheritance money and invest it in microsoft, then pull it all out right before the anti-trust suit. I'd make bets on all the major sporting events up until this point, etc. Pretty much I'd use my knowledge of the future to make myself horribly rich. I'd also tell the Canucks not to play Todd Bertuzzi at the end of that Colorado game.

The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.

I'd change my hairstyle. You don't know how hard it is to have your hair fall into line after 16 years of the same hairdo.

If I was twelve again it would mean it was the year 1985 again. I would tell my father, who've always trusted me 100%, to go and stop the shooting of Olof Palme (in 1986). I'd spend a lot more time with my grandfather now that I know what will (would?) happen to him. I'd probably use my allowance to buy some Nokia stock (back when Nokia only made tires..). I'd probably play a lot of Trivial Pursuit just to amaze my friends. And I would finally hit on Ulrika Larsson, something I regret to this day for never having the guts to do.

You know what, I think that is another thing that I would do. Modify my love life up until this point. Hit on the girls that I should have, and stay away from the girls that I should have stayed away from in the first place.

You never know. If you've managed to predict the future accurately on several occasions, people might take your knowledge of the event more seriously. And even if the FBI don't listen to you, maybe if you shout about it loud enough, the terrorists might hear and call it off. In fact, just get a few members of your cult to go to the Airports and a) find the terrorists and make sure they don't get on the planes (either by convincing them that their plan is known about and has been foiled, or by killing them) b) phone in a bomb threat, thus grounding the planes or c) get them to try to get on the planes with actual weapons (as opposed to box cutters) and then claim they are planning on carrying out a terrorist attack when stopped, and give the FBI (who sure as hell would be listening now) details on the terrorist attack as if they themselves were planning on doing it. Alternatively, phone in bomb threats to the WTC and Pentagon a half hour or so before the attacks. It might not stop the attack, but it should minimise the damage.

One thing I would definitely do if I was 12 again, however, and far more important than a terrorist attack, would be to ensure that my porn stash was well hidden enough that my mother wouldn't find it. Yikes, that was embarrassing.

I would murder my religious zealot of a mother so I didn't have to go through puberty feeling guilty every time I touched a girl or having to endure a "family meeting" every time a girl rang me at home.

You could have tried: "Mom, either I touch myself or girls..."

Never felt guilty about the first one. ;)

It was just a bit weird in retrospect. I just wanted to do what any teenage boy wanted, but Mum was a very strict "no sex before marriage" kind of woman who lived in morbid fear of the shame that would fall on her if I fathered a bastard. Hence I actually used to feel physically sick with guilt when I tried to do normal teenage things - probably because she was a pretty good mum up to that stage of my life.

She's chilled out a bit now, but seeing as I had to break the ice for the rest of the kids (I have an elder brother but he was school chess champion, so no girl would touch him), life was pretty tough there for a while.
