E3 Thread Merge: Bioware ...

Recommended Posts

"Taking a break from the mass swarm of humanity at E3, I went to visit the BioWare booth in the South Hall and got to spend some time with Tom Ohle, BioWare's public relation specialist. While BioWare isn't showing or announcing anything new, I did get a sneak peek at a new premium module in the works for NWN. I can't talk too much about it except that it will feature new content like tilesets and creatures as well be the longest premium module they've done. We'll be featuring an interview on it when it gets closer to release. Feel free to probe the BioWare staff on the official forums and hopefully they'll give up some information.

Also at the BioWare booth was the Dragon Age logo which is very close to what it will be. As the next major PC project they're working on and the spiritual successor of NWN, it's a massive project that I'm really looking forward to. On a related topic, we didn't transfer the Dragon Age section from the old site due to technical reasons, but it will definitely get its own website once official information starts flowing and we have some artwork we can use in the site design."

That was Volourn posted.

Now, I have to say I am hardly suprised since with JE being completed a couple of months ago I really dont expect then from relasing anything new this soon.

However this is a trend I do not like, BioWare basicly have N-O-T-H-I-N-G to show up in E3 since the reporter says nothing about new Dragon Age trainers being in E3 so why are BioWare there?

Why are any compamy without anything new to report at E3.

Because E3 is a media event ... games and software developers are more and more being driven by advertisement (and hype) and so must be present at the media event of the year ... E3.

I am not trying to be argumentative over BioWare only, we already seen this being pulled by other companies (how many times was "Duke Nuken Fourever" in E3?) and its something I do not like, we already seen that a entire PLANET was pulled out of SW:KotOR2:TSL because there was the need to showcase a demo at E3 and with the tight timeframe needed to complete the game ... it got cut.

Who knows why BIo wasted the money to go E3 with nothing to show; but I'm dissapointed. If it's for the media attention; don't you think it failed? Obviosuly, if BIO has nothing to show, the media is gonna focus on thsoe companies that have soemthing to show - whether it be Oblviion, the new console hypes, or any one of the enarly 1000 games being shown at E3..So, if the idea was to advertise; they are gonna be swamped by others.

I suppose if a company doesn't appear at E3 at all, it looks bad. I don't really see how it's worse than appearing with nothing to show, but then media experts are good at shining bright lights so that nothing looks like something.

I really liked this sentence: "Also at the BioWare booth was the Dragon Age logo which is very close to what it will be." Pity the poor writer, when even the irrelevant frippery isn't authentic.

By the way, now that Jade Empire is finished, isn't it time for Bioware to announce a new project?

OK, you're right, I forgot that it seems to be normal to 'announce' that there is a new project without actually announcing anything about it (like a name), as we can see in the New Jersey forum which has been up for, what is it, a month now? As someone who's never really followed these things, is E3 a common place for surprise announcements (like details of new projects)? Or usually only for stuff that's been extensively trailed beforehand?

Who does it look bad to, though?

Journalist types, perhaps? People who are aching to write in their magazines about how the company is waning, with fewer projects, not able to put together a presentation for E3? I don't know. Maybe it's just a question of keeping their profile high.

Yes but if you end in E3 with a poster and a "making of ..." video of a released game in a loop chances is they are going to write worst things.

I dont think many will care if a company does not show up for E3 if they have projects in the works.

Ha ha ha. Bioware has got so many games "journalists" (in the same way that the guy who puts ketchup on the burgers in Wendy's is a "chef") drooling and fawning that they get all excited when the sum total of their output for E3 is a poster that's almost like the real one!

You couldn't make it up. Go, Bio! Go!

Cheers

Let's not forget that E3 exists for reasons other than satisfying your fans interests and PR. Shocking, isn't it? :D

I'm speaking of reasons of business, namely relationships with retailers, publishers, and seeing what the industry and your friends are up to.

Well Bio. only coughed up a couple of mods lost year and one of them was named "The CRPG of the Year", so they probably don't think they need to go to much effort to promote themselves at this point...particularly since Dragon Age is still a good couple of 18-24 months away from release.
