"The 360 version of the game is described as a first-person shooter based on an RPG. This immediately causes us to think of Deus Ex," It uses the word RPG alot, I Think it will have Rpg Elements, It just wouldent Be shadow run without it. I Made the song More UP TO DATE (theme Song for the Sega version) check it out

Call of Cthulu and Deadlands are also both followed by the RPG communities as we hope these two titles will have RPG elements. But I haven't seen anything to suggest either will yet. They are just FPS games based on RPG licenses. I fear Shadowrun will be the same.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

Well, if they make a Shadowrun game reminiscent of Call of Cthulu: DCotE, or of what's so far known of that game; I think we're initially well off when it comes to a good basis of a FPS game. To me; as long as the game has a good atmosphere and great gameplay; the chosen genre can be whatever they(devs) see fit.

Yuck on the Metalhearts game. Looks like Diablo in the Fallout universe.

It's not Shadowrun, it just has some magic in a techno setting. Why are a lot of these new games coming out of Europe just inferior versions of 10-year old games?

*edit* This story surfaced in Electronic Gaming Monthly. They said almost nothing in many words, but just confirmed it's being worked on for the Xbox360. They said it's being retooled and will be drastically different than the SNES and Genesis hits. Take that for what you will.

Metalheart, Restricted Area, The Fall: Last Days of Gaia, UFO Aftermath...

Basically there are a ton of games based on ideas from Fallout, Xcom, and Jagged Alliance in development. That would be wonderful news, but they keep coming out as mediocre games. I really don't get it. Is something lost in translation? Is the magic just gone?

They are just using the goodwill from the existing IP to leverage all the suckers who don't wait for reviews to run out and buy a game (or buy a game in the future based on what they dimly remember from their youth) and only afterwards realise theat they've been had.

It is a purely cynical exercise, seen recently in the flood of films made from seventies tv shows (Brady Bunch, Professionals, Mission Impossible, etc etc).

Just pure scorched earth policy short-term commercialism ... :)

That's not true. I understand where you're coming from with that, but no.

I think these companies have good intentions. They just seem to lack the talent to make a solid product. But again, maybe it's the translations. Many of these games score in the low 80's, which isn't terrible (although many reviewers are too soft.) But they tend to be plagued with bugs and lack any engaging story elements.

It's just frustrating that these developers really are close to making a quality product. One of the few exceptions was Silent Storm by Nival, but even that had some serious camera issues and a story that wasn't terribly engaging. It was great because of the tactical engine.

Because of Silent Storm, I'm interested about a fantasy strategy for the first time ever. If they can pull off what they're trying with HoMM 5, it's going to be marvelous.

Go Nival!

Maybe these are new Russian developers without experience of big budgets behind them?

Well most of the neo-european rog houses are in Austria/Germany, the few russian ones have better budgets and management. That is, if you don't coun the number one european publisher, Jowood.

To answer your question; yes. If the situation doesn't change for the better.

I must confess that I have little (no :D) knowledge of the spcifics ... I was just making a cynical overservation of what the worst case scenario is ... I meant no disrespect to any developers that are honestly trying to re-animate an old classic, or even kickstart their own development studio with an homage to a classic.

Let's face it, if they think a classic is worth their effort then they must be of like mind ...

Regardless of the developers intentions, when I hear a game was inspired by fallout or shadowrun. I often find myself going out and getting the game despite my better judgement. Only to be let down time and time again. And now I'm getting my hopes up for the new xbox shadowrun which may or may not be comming out at all. From all the rumors it worries me that microsoft is just making "halo-run" which if it sells great and if it doesn't there goes any chance of another shadowrun game anytime this decade. Sorry, I'm just ranting been up all night. :shifty:
