Though I can appreciate that you might find it difficult to find a hard copy of a game, Obsidian does not in ANY WAY condone piracy. I truly hope that you can find a legitimate copy of this title, but know that what you are doing is not only illegal, in the end it hurts every player here. By choosing not to find a legitimate manner in which to acquire a title, distribution chains remain not only non-existent, the rationale to grab another title quickly goes from rationalisation to intentional theft. Finally, the cost is eventually incurred by players and companies alike. I apologise if this is coming across as judgemental and/or preachy, but the simple matter is that none of us would have the privelege or luxury to game if we simply found a download site to acquire that hard to get title.

Note: I was intending to close this thread, but it occured to me that there might in fact be a manner in which FoD might acquire a legal means of d/ling the title in question. Though GameSpy D2U does not have it available - I checked - perhaps some of the members here might actually be able to assist. My rant stands, but perhaps it should be in general, as reading FoD's original post, it is not certain that you meant to illicit assistance in illegally obtaining Fallout. My apologies for my 'assumption' ...

No - what you need is to familarlize yourself with the concept of commerce, as opposed to theft. <_<

"Finger of Death is in China, even if he did want to use P2P to 'accquire' it, there's no Anti-Piracy laws in China IIRC."

Law is irrelevant. It's just wrong to steal games whetehr you happen to live in NA, Europe, the ME, or even China.

At least you could tell him where to get it legitimately as opposed to popping your nuts.. Ah, whatever. It's hopeless to change some crowds. :-

FoD: If you are in China, probably the only way to get Fallout 1 is to buy the game on eBay. (since Amazon, and other sites probably wont even deliver the game to China) Hell, even in eBay you might not have much luck. Do you know anybody in America or anywhere that can get the game for you?

Moral or not, Fallout is too old to be sold. It should be classified as abandonware.. which it, come to think of interplays downfall, probably is. So in fact, downloading it is practicly legal.

And sadly, Feargie, Chris and the other guys who made it, wouldnt get a cent even if you did buy it.

Actually both Fallout and Fallout II remain available within the retail chain (i.e. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...games&n=507846). Though I am unsure as to whom the proceeds go (perhaps Vivendi?), it remains available and thus a product that must be purchased, in order to be legally acquired.

BEIJING, Jan. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- China has banned 50 illegal electronic games in a recent government probe into the electronic publication and software market.

As part of the effort to protect intellectual property rights and create a good environment for Chinese youth, the State GeneralAdministration of Press and Publication (SGAPP) together with the anti-porn and illegal publication offices, created a list of 50 illegal electronic games in a nationwide check-up on electronic publication and software markets.

Liu Binjie, deputy director of the administration and director of the state anti-porn office said here Wednesday that the Chinesegovernment in 2005 will focus on combating illegal publications. This especially concerns pirated textbooks, electronic publications and illegal journals that will have negative influence on the youth.

Among the 50 illegal games, 26 are pirated game software including Age of Mythology: the Titans, The Sims 2, Manhunt, FIFA 2005, Battlefield Vietnam and Painkiller: Battle out of Hell. The remaining are illegally distributed foreign games including Conflict Vietnam, Vietcong: Fist Alpha and Devastation.

The administration has called for relevant departments across the country to clean up the electronic publication and software markets, confiscate any of the 50 games if found and hold the publishers, producers and distributors of these games accountable.

China, which first launched a campaign against pornographic andillegal publications in 1989, has been carrying it out for 16 years. Enditem

Taiwan reference gets sports game banned in China

DANGEROUS PASTIME: The video game `Football Manager 2005' is a threat to China's territorial integrity, according to the Chinese Culture Ministry

China has banned the British computer game Football Manager 2005, saying it violated Chinese law by referring to Taiwan, Hong Kong and other regions claimed by China as separate countries.

A notice on the Culture Ministry's Web site said the game contained "content harmful to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity ... [that] seriously violates Chinese law and has been strongly protested by our nation's gamers."

They even banned Hearts of Iron because it does not support their view of history.

Swedish game banned for harming China

www.chinaview.cn 2004-05-28 23:02:21

      By Li Jianmin

BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhuanet) -- China has banned a Swedish-made computer game for "distorting history and damaging China's sovereignty and territorial integrity," the Ministry of Culture (MOC) said Friday.

The PC game, "Hearts of Iron", was accused of distorting historical facts in describing the Fascist regimes of Japan, Germany and Italy during World War II.

Moreover, "Manchuria", "West Xinjiang", and "Tibet" appeared as independent sovereign countries in the maps of the game. In addition, it even included China's Taiwan province as the territory of Japan at the beginning of the game.

"All these severely distort historical facts and violate China's gaming and Internet service regulations," the MOC said. "The game should be immediately prohibited."

All websites are banned from releasing the game and all the CD-ROM game copies will be confiscated, the MOC said, and the sellers will be punished according to law.

Internet bars that provide downloads of the game or fail to stop those Internet surfers who download, install or play the game, will be fined or even ordered to stop business.

The game was made by Paradox Entertainment, a games developer based in Stockholm, capital of Sweden, published by Strategy First, and was first released in 2002.

The MOC has established an imported game products censorship committee in an effort to step up censorship on the content of online games.

The committee regulates that online games with content violating basic principles of the Constitution, threatening China's national unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity will be banned from importing.

Online games with content threatening state security, damaging the nation's dignity, disturbing social order and infringing on other's legitimate rights will also be prohibited.

Earlier in March this year, the State Press and Publication Administration (SPPA) banned a Norwegian-made computer game, "Project IGI2: Covert Strike".

The game was accused of intentionally blackening China and the Chinese army's image as a freelance mercenary fights in the game across three linked campaigns in the former Soviet Union, Libya and China, where he steals intelligence and conducts sabotage in China and shoots at China's soldiers while China's national flag and signs like "China Aviation" pop up frequently.

The SPPA in early 2003 banned a US-made computer game, "Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour Expansion", also for smearing the image of China and the Chinese army.

The MOC said that all foreign online games must accept content examination by the ministry before they enter the Chinese market. Those already-entered online games must make up relevant examinations before Sept. 1, or the game operators will be punished according to law.

The ministry allows the import of foreign online games whose content accords with Chinese national conditions and has positive effects on young people's mentality, the MOC said. Enditem

"OWNED."

Slavery is wrong. It's much worse than stealing. Stealing should come with fines. Salvery should come with much harsher punishment as in jail time and/or more 'permenant' punishment.

"I don't know download game=steal."

Downloading is not always stealing. It's ok as long as the owner of whatever you are downloading says it is allowed.

So you say - but what about my dog? Technically, I "own" him, but it's not illegal or wrong, and I treat him right. Conversely, as BSC "owned" Mith, mith is now BSC's "dog"...isn't that right Mith you "bitch"?
