I need advice...

OK, I want to buy an iPod. Should I buy an iPod mini or a normal iPod or even one of those iPod Photos? Or should I wait? You never know what Apple is designing... Any advice would be helpful. Thnkx.

Depends on how much money you have an how much music you have. If you have more than 4GB of music you want to store then by all means get a normal iPod.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

Just a dumb question but you can also use an i-pod as a mobile HD right (ie to store stuff other than music). I'm thinking of the time when I have to move countries again and rather than backing everything up on CDs I could just load it all into an i-pod (or something similar) and then download into another system when I reach my destination.

Cheaper to just buy a regular HDD and a Conversion Kit to turn it into a portable mass storage device.

Ive got one of those Creative Zen's... it does the job at half the price of an ipod but its got some flaws

-Cant read filenames or handle catalogs so any song lacking proper ID3 or WMA tags disapear or get sorted in the huge "unknown" folder... or it just does minor crap like screwing up track order, which can be really annoying if you're listening to audiobooks or similar

-Needs special docking software to connect to PC, and not the most stable software out there either..

Ipods are overpriced. By a regular MP3 player and get a napster card :)

But an iPod is worth the price.

Get a 20GB ipod , got mine recently and its fantastic. The new ipods are just an update of the current range, going to be a while before the 5th generation versions come out.

If you think an Ipod is overpriced then you have never used one, they are by far the best designed gadget around today. Its just so easy to cycle through thousands of tracks with the touch wheel.

And how is it possible to fit 2000 tracks on 5gb? I have about 2000 tracks and that takes up 15gb, accounting for sets, thats possibly 11+GB of normal tracks. Are some peopel's collections entirely consisting of 1 min tunes?

The batterylife on the ipod is ****. While its not that much worse than many other products, you cant change the battery so on a long plane flight you could be a bit buggered. The 12hour claim, as with all batterylife claims on MP3/MiniDisk players, is utter BS.

It depends on what compression and file format you use. That usually refers to 48kbps compression whereas a usual mp3 is 128kbs.

And if you want something with a huge battery life get a Sony NW-HD3. It has 30hr battery life and can take 13,000 songs if you use Atrac3 but it can take 5,000 normal mp3s as well if you don't want to use Atrac3
