What is your prefered character type?

I'm a rogue type, with a little illusionist mixed in there from time to time. I also love the stealthy ranger

People laugh when I say that I think a jellyfish is one of the most beautiful things in the world. What they don't understand is, I mean a jellyfish with long, blond hair.

I enjoy just looking around for little things where probability and luck plays a big deal and the goal is to manipulate dice rolls and stuff in your favor (ex. a character built in, say, D&D 3.0 that makes a crit on more than half of all attacks). It puts a lot of thought into things while still feeling like a game where every dice topple matters

I am always looking for jack-of-all-trades classes. Fortunately, the DMs let me play with my own classes (red mage, mimic). If I had to choose among the classic d&d classes, I would either pick a bard or a druid.

And I always play with a neutral good character. I don't like any of the other alignements...

"Ooo, squirrels, Boo! I know I saw them! Quick, throw nuts!" -Minsc

"I am a well-known racist in the Realms! Elves? Dwarves? Ha! Kill'em all! Humans rule! -Me

Volourn will never grow up, he's like the Black Peter Pan, here to tell you that it might be great to always be a child, but everybody around is gonna hate it. :p

I like to play a zealous religious type .. like a crazy druid, cleric or mage..

Mostly I dislike combat and focus on a more diplomatic kinda character (even if I know there will be alot of combat) because that feels more natural to me .. and I like playing with a disadvantage (being old, cripple, mentally ill .. what ever).. guess I'm a very anti-powergamer.. :-

I like utility characters, characters that have range of useful skills and abilities geared towards survival and exploration. I don't like magic very much, and if I do have a character with magical capabilities I use it very, very rarely, and then usually as part of the aforementioned survival and exploration aspects.

Often I am for diversity rather than specialisation; I'd rather be able to do a few things competently than one or two things exceptionally. The latter gets really boring, I find.

I typically play characters who are similar to the old skool 1E Ranger. That means, in 3.x, that we use my "Ranger Restored", rather than the 3.5 ranger. I like the idea of a good warrior who can do more than simply swing a sword, and who can survive without a party if need be.

My D&D characters are usually dark, brooding, vengeance-filled types, but good-natured under all that. I love the idea of the Half-Elves being racially picked on, so I like Half-Elf rangers. Funnily enough, my fave char is an elven (good) monk who is at a bit of a disadvantage with the rest of my party because he just got his head ripped off by a giant bear, and the damn fools were too tight to use a resurrection scroll. My SW characters are usually Twi-Leks, often assassin-like characters

Knowing the source of my avatar tells a lot of the kind of character I prefer to play. Be the game on board, on paper or online.

I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Those who were too weak to survive were sent to Sweden.

It has made me the man I am today. A man who craves furry hentai.

So let us go and embrace the rustling smells of unseen worlds

I usually play a warrior of some type, with the occassional rogue here and there. For a combination of the two, depending on the type of game, ranger is a good compromise. I so miss 1st edition AD&D Rangers.

Between PnP, and MMORGs, I've been doing it so long, most of it's become habit. I don't play the brute force type, though it's nice to be able to have that ability. I tend to have a plan. Somehwere. My pet kender has it.

For CRPGs, I tend to favor a jack of all trades so I'm reliant more on my own abilities, and less on others (ie: crappy AI)

I've never been fond of most wizard types in CRPGs because they're so extremely limited to their PnP counterparts. In PnP, you're literally only limited to your imagination when it comes to using spells. You don't have that luxury in CRPGs, and that's a BIG limitation in my book.

I have to be careful in PnP as a wizard. I have this habit to finding challenge in figuring ways out of situations with some extremely unorthidox methods, mostly using spells in ways you'd never expect. It sometimes has the tendancy to drive the DM nuts because they get flustered when you ingeniously outwit them for some special encounter you unkowingly just messed up.

I generally play a ranger, just because I love using ranged weapons  . I also love dual wielding from early on with ambi-dexterity (later on you also just HAVE to try out Drizzt esque dual scimitars  :D ). As a prestige class later on I generally play arcane archer (did I mention I'm always elf or half elf with my rangers  ), good old arrow of death is such a kewl thing to shout out even if you know it only has a 10% chance of hitting

I also like playing a sneaky rogue character, now and then.......sneak attack
