Both are great series, but I choose the BG series as I知 more a d&d geek. Hence I played them a lot more than I did the fallouts, so they get the nod.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Is that your final answer?

Ooooooooww, I'm sorry, the correct answer is actually..... "Fallout".

Johnny, tell them what they could have won ;)

Impression from initial playthrough:
BG> BG2> FO> FO2

Opinion from hindsight:
BG2> FO> BG> FO2

I think I'd match FO1 and BG1 fairly evenly, with either taking precedence depending on my mood. FO2 is definately superior to BG2 however.

Fallout. You just felt like you had more freedom... more plot freedom, more freedom to finish missions in different ways, more ethical freedom. And a great setting. And mean evil humor. And dumb in-jokes. And gore.

But the BG games were alot of fun, you had alot to do, you were just more constrained as far as what you could do and how you could do it.

easily the Baldur's Gate saga. For one, the rampant fanboyism of the community is...intimidating...(much like certain aspects of the NWN community :-" ) I just didn't enjoy Fallout very much. I felt that much of it was immature and a bit trite. The writing wasn't very good, either. And (please don't hate me) I loathe true turn-based combat. I'm not very patient. :(

but then again, the iguana sticks almost made up for it. Almost.

In no way do I recall FO1 suffering from this, but certainly FO2 did. That said, even what immaturity, triteness and poor writing that was at times present in FO2 comes nowhere near the same degrees present in the BG series, particularly in BG2.

Ouch! Coming from a Bulls fan nevertheless.

Can稚 help it, I知 always a d&d geek first, other games second. Even with all the garbage d&d has released through the years. I知 still a sucker for their rule set and settings.

Oh please. Both of youa re wrong. Neither BG or FO series had that much immaturity. And, certainly, they weren't poorly written.

Tsk, tsk.

Torment is better than both though.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

If you add Torment. Then it goes like this.

Baldur's Gate 2 > Baldur's Gate > Fallout 2 > Fallout > Work> Taxes > Dentist > Torment

Haha, well, agreed. I expected an amount of that in Baldur's Gate, though. It was such a classic D&D ubergeek fest. And it's been a long time since I've played the original Fallout. I'm probably thinking of the sequel. I just recall that there were some head-scratching moments in the original...for me, at least.
