Baldur's Gate vs. Fallout

Recommended Posts

by this I mean the entire BG series with all expansions against Fallout 1&2. Also I chose not to include "both" or "other" or similar options because its more interesting that way, and also such points can ve expressed by posting said opinion without voting.

In this day and age there has been two stars on the CRPG heaven who shined brighter and whiter than all others. They are the basis from which all other games are judged and many are the voices who cry out in despair that developers seem completely unable(or rather unwilling?) to match the greatness of these ancient giants.

Apart from being just another witless poll, could we have an argument why developers seem to ignore the lessons taught by the success of these games?

yes.... even though the poll was just another poll it did fill a certain function.

Definately Fallout. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that FO was the first RPG I ever played, but it was such an intense and brilliant game IMO. BG was brilliant tooo ofcourse, but I'm not really into the "hardcore" DnD rules, I just want a great game. IMO, BG depended too heavily on those rules.

The Fallouts oozed with better atmosphere and style, but the BG's were superior in gameplay and fun.

Fallout series. There was a greater possibility to do what you wanted to, in BG it was just go here, do this, kill that, then go there, repeat, no real puzzles. Also, random encounters were good fun. However, I think BG had a superior combat and gameplay system; combat in FO was way too slow.

Fallout.

Never got into BG1 (loved BG2 though)

My preference would be something like:

Fallout > BG2 > Fallout2 > BG

I prefered the BG series...maybe because I prefer fantasy over sci-fi/post-apocalyptic settings for CRPGs.

I also liked being able to control the NPCs in combat - I got sick of Ian emptying clip after clip into my back.

Also I found the "adult language" taunts of FO dare I say, a little immature? Granted you could turn it off but it didn't add much to the game IMO...unlike bloody mess. :p
