Playing as Toreador pretty much mean having a boost in social skills and seduction. But being able to seduce doesn't mean to you are seducable yourself.

As I see it Toreadors meddle with humans, they are "good hearted" towards them. But you can be nice to a dog or a cow as well. Pet them, play with them, make them adore you. But in the end they are still a dog and a cow. Humans are seen as lower then vampires. Maybe not as low as a cow is to us (but for Sabbath they are even lower).

I could honestly see the "flirting" among vampires as a way they are used to behave towards others, and pretty much do so against one another. Like part of a game, when you say one thing, but mean another...

And the Nosferaty are prejudice against Toreadors, simple because they are opposits in the way of life.. uh.. death...

anyway, have anyone played as a Malkavian? You can talk with the TV!! And more. Also with a lamppost :)

Playing as a Malk was AWESOME! I missed talking to the lamppost though, where was that?

I really do think the only character who DIDN'T try to manipulate you was Nines.  Even Jack did, if only for your own good.  ;)

Also, more or less, romance is easily connected with manipulation and power both in our real life and literature, too. In CRPG, I remember Planescape (Deionarra, Ravel and Anah).

Of course, you COULD be a shallow, manipulative, evil monster, but hey, nobody else needs to realize that until too late – Padme sure didn’t.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Besides, let’s face it, love stinks.

I would put forth that a vampire flirting with another vampire should be undertaken in for form of using power, ambition and manipulation rather than trying to ply physical or sexual attraction.
Since I'm not playing a character that uses Seduction, I'm not sure what kinds of dialogue one has access to (if any) when using Seduction on another vampire.

Do you get Seduction dialogue options when talking with other vampires?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

At least, I could say that, like other social skills, plot-related seduction choices were rather limited than I expected. That would have made socialist option intresting. As I wrote, I’d prefer more sophistication in dialogues for players, which would have enabled con game and subtle tact…but probably asking too much for CRPG. PST did a remarkable job, though. E.g. the same lines with different tags such as [Lie]. Considering the theme and plot, this could have been worked well with Bloodlines.

Are Malkavians the only clan that really get different dialogue options?

Yes and no, in some (rare) cases there is clan expecific dialogue ... I remenber when playing a toreador I always end up insulting the nossies.

Malkavians dialogue options are completly diferent written but they lead pretty much the same lines that the other clans.

Every once in a while, I can't tell what the hell a particular Malkavian dialogue option MEANS, but usually it isn't that different from the Usual RPG Dialogue Choices... just written in a wierd (sometimes REALLY wierd and/or funny) way. And sometimes other people can't figure out what your statements mean, either. (Not a spoiler, says so in the manual I think).

Also, female Malkavian clothing is really wierd and messed up (not a spoiler, just start a game with a Malkavian and see what I mean).

As you have already noticed, NPC dialogues are decent but I can’t say that dialogue choices for PC are plenty...and they don't have much impact on the main plot, which is my major complaint on this game.

Unfortunately they confused Malkavian madness with plain idiocy, IMO. I mean, there are a whole lot of different kinds of mental illness but, I don't think any of them involves talking like a 16th century buffoon.

I'd much rather play a total paranoid or sociopath Malk. The fact that the ridiculous dialogue is actually forced on you (no apparently normal dialogue options whatsoever) doesn't help much, either.

The conversation with the stop sign was a nice touch, though. ^_^

But what would be the difference between a mad person and a normal person, if the mad person had the option of choosing normal responses in conversations..?

Um, usually you can't tell a psycho from a normal person just by doing some small talk with them, unfortunately. It would be nice to be able to play normal and then suffer outbursts of random lunacy, or when talking to certain characters, or when put under pressure. I don't know, I'm no specialist in madness. :(

Anything's better than that loon talk they did.

About Malkivian pc, I’m not familiar with VtM setting but I think they did an interesting job with

. So, probably they left Malkivian PC like that probably because of the technical difficulty and, instead, they just attempted to make a parody version of Bloodlines through Malkivian for replay.

My point exactly. She doesn't have 'Malkavian' written on her forehead. Her madness is anything but evident. If they managed to give her and Alistair Grout the authentic Malk flavor without making them total idiots, why couldn't they do the same with the PC?

The answer is <drum roll>... Lazy Design!

anyway. I'm probably really duft right now, but how can I use flirting for power, as it obviously shouldn't have any effect. You use it with humans, because it manipulates them to do your bidding. They think they'll spend a great night with you or some such. You gain power by manipulating them, and they are manipulated because of the physical attractiont they feel towards you.

If I flirt with another vampire, and all they care about is power and blood, shouldn't I really be promising thim power, give him money, or wave blood-packs in front of their noses?

How does it really work?  :'(

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well flirting can also be an intellectual game. :-" You know? *wink* :D And you don´t always use it just to get someone to do something. In real life anyway.

I have a question about the console and it's use. When I use the console, the game freezes up, and I'm wondering if that's supposed to happen and is there a way to get around it?
