Single or Double Saber?

Recommended Posts

Most of my first game was with a single green saber (well, when I got it I mean).

I eventually changed to purple.

For Darth Nihilius, I added a purple short-saber, and I've stuck that way since.

But I'm disapppointed because I didn't get any non-KotOR color crystals (cyan) until after I left what I'm guessing was the last of the workbenches.

Single. Viridian, Silver, and finally Red.

"When the foul sore of envy corrupts the vanquished heart, the very exterior itself shows how forcibly the mind is urged by madness. For paleness seizes the complexion, the eyes are weighed down, the spirit is inflamed, while the limbs are chilled, there is frenzy in the heart, there is gnashing with the teeth."

Consular's suck in hand to hand.

So go single and take dueling to balance that off.

Sentinels are pretty good and could go either way. The penalties from double bladed could be easily balanced out by certain upgrades to increase your chance to hit.

Guardians have scads of combat ability and should always go double and ignore any upgrades that increase their chances of hitting in favor of more and more damage.

Just an opinion.

What does master double-weapon feat give you?

If Duelling is at 3rd level and dual-weapon is also then the single sabre guy gets a +3/+5 over both the dual saber and double saber attack bonuses and an extra +3 to defence

ie single = +3 to attack

double/dual = 0/-2 when balanced (-2/-2 when not)

using that knowledge I've been going through single sabre style and hitting most of the time, whereas Visas with a double-bladed and Handmaiden with her staff both seem to miss about 30-40% of the time

But, if your main character becomes a weapons master, the bonus for wielding twoo weapons rises from (0/-2) balanced and (-2/-2) unbalanced, to (+2/0) unbalanced to (+4/0) balanced. That is why people choose double, because they get a bonus to one of their hits. Let's say that as a dual you get a plus three bonus, well, then you get a higher bonus here and an extra attack. What's wrong with that?

The dualing feats are very underpowered though, and will be unless they also put a bonus to damage and bolt reflection. Then there would be a reason to wield only one. (This gives the benefits of two plus a defensive bonus)

Two single hilted lightsabers would do me, but I never really focused on the two weapon feats. So, it didnt really inflict and much damage as I hoped.

Though, Double Ended can be very useful in certain areas of the game.

Eh, first time through, (played on hard), I didn't try to create an uber-character, just played and didn't pay too much attention, with the exception of actually installing upgrades I found, and I still found it easy, although with a single saber, Nihilus and a couple others actually did manage to hurt me a good bit, though I still killed them quicker. Judging from the obscene damage I did as a guardian/weaponmaster dual-wielding would take all tension out of the game, or actually plotting out the best way to advance the character..... At least with this class even a lot of normal enemies made saves against my stasis field and such. Only my buffing powers ended up being useful.

Depends on the build.

"Force Specialist" Jedi work better with double sabers- allow more stat boosts, and they don't care about their strength.

Low strength fighters (especially certain Str 10 Watchman and Sith Assassin builds) benefit more from dual-wielding. The extra attack allows them to deal more damage with sneak attack, they lose little from not getting a 1.5x strength to damage, and they can add crystals to raise their stats.

High strength fighters are best done with either a single or a double-lightsaber. While fighting this way, your character deals 1.5x strength bonus to damage instead of 1x. I am not sure which is EXACTLY better (essentially, can the critical strike multiplier from the single-saber cancel out the extra hit [with only 1/2 strength bonus to damage] of the double-saber). I am going to do the math tonight.

Single-saber definetly CAN compete with dual saber, especially with a strength fighter. Don't think of it as "gimping" your character at all; that's false. The best way to gimp your high-strength fighter is to actually give him two sabers! (or, even better, a blaster rifle or something : ) )

When you use two sabers, when calculating your damage, you take your strength modifier and add it to damage.

When you use either a single saber, or a double-bladed saber, you take your strength modifier, multiply it by 1.5, and then add it to damage.

For high strength scores, this is a significant improvement, way better than any crystal is going to help you.

*EDIT* - Anyone know what Final Lightsaber Form a Guardian/Assassin gets? Niman or Juyo?

*EDIT2* - Preliminary analysis shows that a double-bladed flurrying juyo form does the most damage...but a single-bladed POWER ATTACKING (of all things, I always thought this was the worst) juyo-form with a lightsaber built for criticals (Use the Improved Beam Gun lens) comes VERY close. Hmmm. Actually, I believe it depends on your strength score at the time...

*EDIT3* Well, according to my simple calculations (comparing two equal-levelled Jedi Guardian/Sith Maurauders), it turns out that a double-bladed lightsaber user using Juyo and Master Flurry will have a SLIGHTLY higher average damage per round than a SINGLE Lightsaber user using Master Power Attack and Juyo (Read - less than 10 damage per round average out of up to almost 500 damage per round). Single-Lightsaber style is VERY VIABLE for people who would prefer that (I am one of those people). Attack bonuses are also similar (Dueling vs the Advanced TWF chain). Power Attack has the cool knockdown effect, and more variable damage with its x3 crits, though. If you want to do MASSIVE damage in a single hit, you're best off with Power Attack, Shien-style and a keen Single-Bladed lightsaber (17~20/x4 damage...Terrifying).

Critical strike usually trails this by 40~50 damage a round, but the stun on Critical Strike is hard to ignore.

Single blade saber w/ loaded Rykk blade in opposite hand. Works well having energy & physical attacks together.

Also using single blade weapons are easier to lower the Critical Threat Range. Single saber & most swords can be dropped to 17 CTR easly, adding occasional extra damage.

Where do you get this calculating information? It makes absolutley no sense at all. This game is based on Wizards of the Coats's D20 system, which has, I might add, STANDARD strength bonuses to weapons. Why would useing a single hand to wield a lightsaber turn out more strength bonus than two?

And the 1x is added twice; once for each saber! duh, with strength 12, you would get +1 for the first attack and +1 for the second. So, it makes your strong character BETTER by adding another opprotunity for it's strength bonus. C'mon, people, think logically, the left hand has some strength bonus in it!

Dual "short" double bladed! Hell yeah!

If youve played Myth The Fallen Lords, think of the Myrmidons from it and youll get my idea.

Course thats wishful thinking.

I love dualing standards, I really want to try a double bladed one. Or a single short! ha.

First game was Orange(or Red, kept swaping them) and Violate in off hand, doesnt really matter that I only got 1X str modifer, as Sion died each time (with full Hyper stims) in 1 master power attack + 1 regualr hit, one of the times it was JUST the power attack) And since I had a Dex of 18 (with all modifiers, 12 base) I was a heavy armor user, and thus master speed was useless.
