Not looking forward to this at all.

That one's a banger... I'll let myself out...

"“Wheel of Time” boss Rafe Judkins set as showrunner."

Two other guys are meant to be doing the actual writing/ creative side, and their resume looks pretty decent really. I'd usually tend to give people involved in Children of Men and The Expanse a chance at least.

(Why they didn't make them the showrunners who knows, since they created The Expanse for TV. And that was a show that looked like it had WoT's budget most of the time despite, well, not having that budget. Maybe they didn't want to handle the money side but still, even ignoring the creative mess Rafe Judkins made WoT look like it had a tenth the budget it actually had. If that. Surely there must be someone better than that clown?)

Finished episode 7 of 1899. You sort of get what is going on by now, but not the full story. Lots of hints at why's, wherefores and who's who in this episode, but not an actual to the point "why?"

I did laugh out loud at the ending scene of episode 6 btw. Showing Eyk in the archive 😝

Finished episode 8 (last episode) of 1899... of course no ending, no closure and nothing resolved 😖

There darn well be a season 2 or I'm going to get very angry 😛

Maybe it will be like Dark, where s1 was great, s2 was making everything unnecessarily complicated, and s3... well I actually never watched s3.

Well as long as it's not tedious bolter porn with some wank death metal OST, should be ok.

Did you ever expect that ending, until the ending this is what I was guessing

Spoiler
Spoiler

  • a matrix world and they were under some sort of experiment
  • it was set in the future in some sort of dystopian world
  • the world was controlled by aliens, they had created the black pyramid

But now we know they on a spaceship on a journey which raises other questions, which include

  • were they all under some sort of suspended animation?
  • why had she forgotten to wake up, was the ship AI in control?
  • where does her brother fit in?

Here is a good summary link of the complex narrative

Thats what happened with me and Dark, I enjoyed S1 and then it got too much time travel and alternative outcomes  and I stopped watching in S2

They didn't really make a secret of it not being "real" around episode 4 or 5 and if there was any doubt left, it disappeared with the ending scene of season 6, where Captain Eyk suddenly gets archived. Looking at the nice collection of ships from previous failed attempts to get back to reality...  Episode 7 is being all explicit about what is going on and episode 8 is about how to get back to reality. Trying to avoid too obvious spoilers if anyone else wants to have a go at it.

If that is the actual 'secret' everyone is talking about, that was clear right after the intro.

Spoiler

The asylum door and cabin numbers being the same, and the injuries on the wrist, talk about the mind and the universe. Might as well all but spell it out. Kind of did, I am not crazy!

Ship names are too 'meaningful' as well - Prometheus, the bringer of fire and origin of mankind's interest in arts and science, and Kerberos, guardian of the underworld. In some versions of the Greek myth, Prometheus was freed by Heracles (Hercules) from his eternal torment by Zeus, being chained to mountain and have his liver pecked out by an eagle every day.

Currently watched 26 of 60 minutes of the first episode, by the way.

Best guess at this point:

Spoiler

Someone's trying to rescue or bring back someone ('Kerberos' looking for 'Prometheus'), related to a state of mind (asylum, talk of minds, reality break, same door number), and it's unlikely to be set in 1899 (pyramids as symbolism, among other things), so whenever inevitably something futuristic shows up, color me unsurprised.

No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

I did like the multi-language aspect of the series. People trying to communicate without everybody speaking the same language, having to rely on bilingual individuals to pass messages along, between the different language groups. The Danes understanding German and speaking a bit of English, the English lady also speaking whatever language (Mandarin?) the two girls from China speaks, the French adamantly refusing to speak anything other than French. One of the Spanish guys translating between his countryman and the other groups etc. Poor Olek can't really communicate with anyone.

Edit: The Scandinavians just speak each their language, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian, having no problem understanding each other.

I guessed the end after 2 episodes (nothing too difficult) but I thought it was too obvious so I expected something else

the other obvious possibility: people being experimented inside an Asylum.

@Gorth one of the "Spanish guys" was actually Portuguese and, speaking that language, I noticed it straight away, when he got scared visiting the other ship in episode 1.

Now I'm imaging Henry showing up an hour late because he spent all night dealing with the puzzles in The House At The Edge Of Time.

Probably a strict diet, a personal trainer, and steroids. We're probably talking about 2 hours a day 6 days a week for excercise, between that and time on set he probably does cram in the vidya after shooting.
