We need a series on Chewbacca's youth. Entirely in Shyriiwook

Eh, we already saw enough of him and his family in the Holiday Special IMO.

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

plus Tarkin and Vader were good too, for that matter

I honestly cannot give a fair assessment of any facet of Tarkin in Rogue One, on account of feeling sick to my stomach any time CGI Peter Cushing was on screen. I am far from qualified to discuss the intricacies of the ethics of using a deceased actor's likeness, but I know that it feels disgusting and wrong to me.

I mean, Tupac is still releasing music post-life, so why can't actors keep busy after death? 😉

The Boy Behind the Door. A horror film about kids being abducted and sex trafficked. Pretty bare bones tbh, not bad but very similar to other serial killer movies.

X (2022). A strip club owner in 1979 Houston takes two strippers (one of whom is his gf), a Vietnam vet, and two film students to shoot a porno out in the country. It feels like the writer never set foot in Houston and the actors do take the country to 11, but if you get over that it's an enjoyable enough take on a slasher.

A Clockwork Orange (1971)

This is my third time watching this movie and it's been over a decade since my last viewing. I wondered if it would hold up to my memories of being blown away by it and it absolutely did.

Easily Stanley Kubrick's most controversial and polarizing movie. This adaptation of the Anthony Burgess dystopian satire novel of the same name is every bit as sharp and biting as I had remembered. Brutal, twisted, unrelentingly cynical, and filled with moments of the darkest of dark comedy, Kubrick pulls no punches here. The tale of Alex DeLarge, a psychopathic gang leader who undergoes an experimental treatment as a means of escaping a long prison sentence is a rollercoaster ride evoking nearly every emotion out there.

Visually, it's striking. Kubrick's mastery of cinematography is on full display here. Narrow, claustrophobic lenses and uncomfortable camera angles serve to keep the audience in a state of unease. The absolutely ghastly and garish decor on display only serves to heighten that feeling. The 50th Anniversary 4K blu-ray version looks wonderful BTW.

The sound design is masterful. In particular, the movie uses reverb to great effect.

Malcolm McDowell is spectacular as the villainous protagonist Alex. He is charming, well mannered, and incredibly sadistic. It's both unusual and complicated to have both the main protagonist and narrator of a story be such a vile, loathsome individual, yet it works to great effect here.

This is not an easy movie to watch, especially the beginning with the home invasion and rape scenes. As I wrote before, Kubrick pulls no punches, the horrific acts are not just implied, they are shown, they are graphic, they are shocking, they are disgusting, and they are set to music that on the surface seems wholly inappropriate. If you can get past that then you will be treated to what is IMHO Kubrick's greatest movie.

Got around to watching the new Dune, mostly because I was afraid HBO would yank it long before pt. 2.
I...as a grumpy old cat...didn't hate it. Didn't particularly like it either, however, although there were certainly small things here and there that I admired, and the cinematography was often nice. Outside of saying that it has all the usual issues I find modern blockbuster film-making to have, not going to analyze it. It's not terrible but also nothing I'm going to remember either.

(EDIT: I do appreciate the effort behind it tho but ...)  So...yeah, I know it's "part 1"... but still unfilm-able, to me.

Only problem is that the only good predator movie is the first one. So despite the trailer, I have like zero hopes for this movie.

I also see its getting criticized on Codex for being woke and Im not sure what they mean in this case?

Is it because the Native American hunter is a female and Native American hunters were men? For me thats not a reason not to watch it

I loved Predator 1 but I preferred 2 , that scene in the tube with everyone trying to kill the predator was epic and sad when the cop gets killed

Weird complaint*, I'm pretty sure that most major cultures had warrior women examples even if, as is typical around the world, they were not the norm in their respective societies.  Bíawacheeitchish of the Crow, Pi'tamaka of the Piikáni Piegan, Buffalo Calf Road Woman of the Northern Cheyenne, Dahteste of the Chocen Apache are some women who engaged in battle, at least, if not hunting in the Americas that I've heard of.

I believe the film Prey characters are Comanche and while I can't think of warrior or hunter woman from that culture, that doesn't mean they didn't exist (i'm no expert) or that it would have been impossible either, just like it wasn't impossible for any other culture where we can name warrior women from.

*Then again, this is the internet.

Im sure it is true that women were not generally hunters\warriors, its the same in black tribes and European clans and tribes

But I dont see what difference it  makes to  this movie. The trailer clearly also shows men as  hunters and warriors and no one can say with absolutely truth that their were no female hunters because we dont have accurate written records

So for me this as an example of " unnecessary woke outrage " and its not going to stop me watching this movie

I watched the trailer again now and I really think it looks excellent

If you'd told me in the 80s that Nuklon, Black Adam, Hawkman and Dr. Fate were going to be in a big budget action effects film, I'd have thought you were crazy. Ditto in the 1990s when Nuklon changed his gimmick to become Atom Smasher.  I'd probably have been more sympathetic by the time Cyclone came around in 2006 that it was possible and you weren't cray-cray.

Pretty much all 'woke outrage' is unnecessary.  I'm almost tempted to say all outrage excepting that over grievous miscarriages of justice or similar serious topics.  But being mad about the lead of a film?  Silly.

We watched Matrix 4.

...um...I liked the deja vu cat. Best character in the movie.
Also, I'm not sure how they managed to make even the action scenes flat, lifeless and dull, but they did. That said, there were some interesting ideas and moments, and NPH's one long dialogue re: humanity was entertaining but yeah overall it earned its bad rep.

...they should have just made deja vu kitty the main character.

Predators was pretty good, Adrian Brody's tough guy voice aside.

While not nearly as good as the first movie, I thought Predator 2 was a perfectly competent and enjoyable sequel.

I haven't seen the last Predator film yet (its on my to-do list), but so far the only ones I really disliked were the AVP films, particularly the 2nd one, which managed to be both poor Alien and poor Predator films.
