A bunch of giant tech companies have banded together to try to secure funding for the CHIPS in America Act from the federal government. The act authorized manufacturing and research initiatives for semiconductors, but as of yet has no funding.

Pretty much all the tech giants are part of this including Intel, AMD, Nvidia, Samsung, Apple, HP, IBM, Microsoft, etc.

Awesome.  Past time we stop relying mostly on China and start creating our own junk, correct?

That's the idea. US companies, not just tech companies, have been outsourcing and building plants overseas for decades because labor is cheaper, laws are more lax, etc. Unfortunately, that can come back to bite you in times when international shipping becomes disrupted, like, say, a global pandemic.

I would think it's more due to the Chip manufacturing that China is doing on it's own and the fear of what would happen when they hit a level that starts to rival that of the US companies. They are doing the smart thing and preparing for the future, I really doubt it has anything to do with supporting the local economy.

Which reinforces the notion that a strong China can actually help American workers and tech companies because it's forcing domestic production and innovation to stay competitive.

But the issue with that is that the American government does not tolerate peer competitors and doesn't seem to hesitate to use military force to stop any potential rivalry, which is strange for a country that claims to worship the theory free market competition.

Free market as long as it's dollar based.
