Another issue with these super tight point restrictions is that you would end up never spending your stat / skill points on a levelup. Instead you'd try to get through as much dialog and combat as possible, and once you hit a wall, slowly increase your skills until you (hopefully) make it through. Welcome to save-scumming, the game.

A game shouldn't be about starting 10 times until you get the formula to win right. "

That's a comment about Colony Ship, or AoD? AoD, sure, saving up your LP to game the conversations or whatever is the best approach. But you can't save your lp with CS, so the only 'win by putting points into things' is on chargen. Ironically, chardev in CS is (near) entirely use based, so it's more like Oblivion than AoD. Also, Fallout style party based, so you can generally cover developmental bases with other party members if you want to.

The combat is kind of ludicrous at the moment though. Very little point in firearms since every fight starts within melee range which means there's not really much in the way of tactics to be used, and the enemy hits you with great regularity- and often imparts status effects- while you won't hit them much at all. I'd put that down to my PC being a wet noodle, but he does have three other dudes along too two of whom are meant to be decent fighters.

That was a quote from a Colony Ship steam review. I haven't played the game yet / likely won't for quite some time.

I'd say he's only actually played AoD in that case, whatever criticisms there are of CS that is definitely not one of them. You'll certainly fail stat/ skill checks and there's definitely an 'optimal' way of approaching things to develop skills- by doing the easy checks first to develop them- but then that's not any different in practice from tackling rats in the basement then orcs in the dungeon before going off to take on a tarrasque at the gates of hell.

Not gonna go into early access titles anymore that won't feature all the content. My experience with this stuff is that I will play the existing content a lot and once the full game is released, I'm already burned out from it and will likely not touch it again for a long time.

Yeah, it's kind of against my religion to play unfinished products, be they release versions or otherwise. I will buy it at some point, though. I really liked AoD and from what I've seen I'll enjoy CS.

That being said, AoD was rather janky and I have little doubt that CS will greatly benefit from some polish after it's content-complete. So yeah, I'll wait.

The Steam review snippet seems like your run of the mill hater, though, complete with RPG vet "credentials" and all. I think I must have seen 95%+ of AoD's content throughout several runs. You only had to game the system like that if you wanted to play the typical power fantasy self-insert who could do everything and succeed at anything. I had no problem murdering whoever and channeling my inner Leonidas at totally not the Thermopylae when I built my character for combat and joined the Imperial Guards. The converse was true when I went the loremaster route, where at times it felt like I was at risk of dying to a paper cut or something. The designer seems to have a serious mad-on for the munchkin playstyle so they intentionally made it infuriatingly hard to play a jack-of-all-trades. Interestingly, the secret ending requires one such build, but it's not worth the effort in my opionion because, essentially, you need to stick to a pre-planned path or guide and that takes all the fun out of it.

A game where quite likely one dev asked: "What is our target audience?" and the other dev replied "Keyrock."

@melkathiIf I don't post obscure games that appeal to me and maybe 1 or 2 other people on the planet, y'all gonna think I was kidnapped and replaced with an imposter. I have an image to maintain.

Wow, that's bad. :( I watch ESL, but only their SC2, but I imagine this reflects there at well.

I mean it's not just this, tons of teams across multiple games were just money laundering schemes for criminals. In the early days only the top teams made any money at all and even nowadays it's a stretch.

Few months ago, there was a big scandal, where almost every single Pro CS:GO team at the tournament cheated... Which just makes it more obvious what kind of money are in the game :(

The reviewer is wrong here.  It's people who suck at math who like these kind of games.  Mathematicians are lazy and 'like' things as simple as possible.  People need to get their facts straight before posting nonsense.

Looks like the PS5 has the same issue as PS3 and PS4. As soon as your CMOS battery dies, and you can’t connect your console for some reason online, or your side of PSN servers will go down, you lose access to all of your digital games and some of your physical games as well...
