Extremist groups are no more reliable strategically as a tool than biological weapons. They always mutate and you risk they backfire any moment.

Afghanistan used to be a pretty chill country, even elected a nice little socialist government with Soviet backing, minimal extremism.

Then the CIA got involved. ;)

Thats not even remotely accurate, Comrade please do some research around history before making these types of  points. I have been told  the " woke " generation knows how to use the Internet and SM when it comes  to other generalizations and reasons for perceived inequality and historical injustice....you just need to learn how to use the Internet for the correct understanding of history and events so that you understand why things are the way they are nowadays

Afghanistan was never a " chilled, socialist " country. It was invaded by the USSR in 1979 and the apart from a puppet Soviet Afghan government the majority of Afghans never wanted to be part of the USSR and fought a brutal war against the Soviets

The CIA strategically intervened to help the Mujahideen as was normal in the proxy war nature of the Cold War

So we should generally always support this type of Western intervention because it all contributed  towards the collapse of the USSR....lets be honest who wants to live in country controlled by old school Communism ?

I would guess that lots of people who have lived under Mujahideen's rule would be willing to try old school Soviet Communism

The reality of the end of Afghan War and how the Taliban came to power is a different debate but yes a pertinent debate to have

But Afghanistan under the Soviets or under the Taliban is not much different. Both were failed and flawed Dictatorships and neither system of government was preferable and neither system of government is a sustainable choice for  citizens of any country

At least the treatment is much more simpler.  Can't bomb a virus.   Well I guess you could..

On a side note, I love how Communism can now be considered "old school", like it's a conservative ideology

No dont  get confused, its not a conservative ideology. Its a deeply flawed and failed ideology

But we refer to it as " old school" because nowadays you have people claiming to believe and support Communism\socialism but they dont really know what the original implementation of Communism was about and why it failed. Hence the term " old school " refers to that type of Communism and not modern day discussions of where it should be implemented

Good question and I have an answer, if white people were involved then you still bring it up but if other races were involved then its okay to be conquered and colonized

Simple really :teehee:

You sound like Der Fuhrer here ;)

Guaranteed jobs, homes, healthcare, womens rights etc is not flawed.  Dictatorships and Gulag could be argued as flawed yes.

You may be half right but when you're 50% right you're 100% wrong.

Also, I'm going to assume that the people bitching about grief over the natives being ethnically cleansed have never actually grew up around rednecks.  Trust me, the last thing the U.S. needs is to perpetuate Anglo supremacy on the North American continent, all races are human and can co-exist just fine if we unite around an idea (Not saying we should just open our borders and flood the land with immigrants but you get the idea...I hope).

It still is in Russia.  If you're  pro-Soviet and want the Union back, you're considered a right wing reactionary.  Everything is backwards in Russia.  If Australia is upside down land, Russia is backwards land.  Being Communist in the USA is considered "Radical left"

Ask the South, they might know.

Well, I don’t know what the answer is but it’s more than 156 years.

Comrade I get confused with all this SJ and political nomenclature, what would you  call someone who believes in Communism but lives in a country like the USA? Are they left or far left or extreme left ?

Bah, 156 years is nothing. Try 400 years where in our SA narrative some activists ( and it is a small number )and political commentators believe all white people are responsible for the arrival of the original colonialists and what transpired ...irrespective of the actual time period your ancestors arrived in SA or whether they were the original Dutch settlers

You Americans have at least another 500 years of being responsible for all the historical injustices of the past ....get comfortable GD, its a long and inaccurate account of history

From some of the "qq-ing" I've seen, seems some think they are closer.

Well the Americans have tried to keep the grievances fresh, interference in Central and South America, for example! 😛

I guess I cant talk too much smack, Im still a little bitter about the Visigoths sacking of Rome back in aught 410AD.

And I am very angry and upset  that the Romans arrived in Britain in 43 AD and colonized my ancestors who use to have their own culture and religions. We all know about the culture of the Celts and their religious representatives the Druids

I demand redress and the Italians to admit they colonized my ancestors !!!!
