Our sun is too small to supernova. Instead, in 4-5 billion years the sun will turn into a red giant, its outer layer will swell up and either engulf the Earth, destroying it, or stop a bit short burning off the atmosphere and vaporizing everything on the surface.

Which means that we should be envious of supernovae that they get such a quick end, while we get to be boiled like lobsters. :(

(Not really though..)

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. On the off chance that humans are still around 4 billion years from now, we should have advanced far enough to where relocating elsewhere isn't much of an issue. We'll have plenty of warning, on the order of tens or hundreds of thousands of years. If we haven't advanced enough or simply choose to stay put then we deserve to boil like lobsters.

Well, to be fair, the only way to get a quick death would be to live near a binary star that goes type Ia. Type II will still swell before going boom. But yeah, other than that I agree

Spoiler

Matter and energy had ended and with it space and time. Even AC existed only for the sake of the one last question that it had never answered from the time a half-drunken computer technician ten trillion years before had asked the question of a computer that was to AC far less than was a man to Man.

All other questions had been answered, and until this last question was answered also, AC might not release his consciousness.

All collected data had come to a final end. Nothing was left to be collected.

But all collected data had yet to be completely correlated and put together in all possible relationships.

A timeless interval was spent in doing that.

And it came to pass that AC learned how to reverse the direction of entropy.

But there was now no man to whom AC might give the answer of the last question. No matter. The answer -- by demonstration -- would take care of that, too.

For another timeless interval, AC thought how best to do this. Carefully, AC organized the program.

The consciousness of AC encompassed all of what had once been a Universe and brooded over what was now Chaos. Step by step, it must be done.

Spoiler

And AC said, "LET THERE BE LIGHT!"

Spoiler

 And there was light --

Quote
“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

-Jonathan Littell <<Les Bienveillantes>>
Quote

"The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."

Two very different groups of men are at war on the internet today: the far-right cadre known as the Proud Boys—and the thousands of gay Twitter users who flooded that platform with pro-LGBT images, marking those posts with #proudboys.

The hashtag trended in North America throughout Sunday with gay Twitter users sharing images of themselves, their spouses and other gay people. Several celebrities added their voices to the mix, including Star Trek’s George Takei.

“We’re proud of all the gay folks who have stepped up to reclaim our pride,” Takei wrote, posting a picture of himself and his husband Brad. It received nearly 75,000 likes. “Our community and allies answered hate with love.”

Wouldn't say religion in itself is a consipracy theory.  If one said that all religion is being used by some shadowy group to control humanity, then could work it on to the chart, maybe ?

Didn't think the Denver International Airport was that sinister, other than the demonic horse statue.

Well, it wasn't really that organized, more like a bunch of old fogies with beards that wanted to control less bearded people with smaller hats.

I would counter this by saying its the biggest conspiracy theory ever loosed on mankind. Specifically engineered to control masses and cause tribalism without a single shred of hard evidence. Imo.

"Real" and "conspiracy" are in the eye of the beholder wrt religion...unless you can point me in the direction of any proof whatsoever? Ill give you until the end of time to provide a link. :p

Isnt it though? Maybe not so shadowy, but religion is used every single day to control humanity. Dont we see real life religious strife to this very day?

Well, if you can prove a conspiracy theory it isn't one 😛 But the chart seemed more than ends rather than the means, so there'd be redundancy as the lizard people use it to enslave humanity through Christianity while The Illuminati uses Islam.

A security flaw in a hi-tech chastity belt for men made it possible for hackers to remotely lock all the devices in use simultaneously.

New studies are showing that people who believe in conspiracy therories actually have high IQ's.  Maybe a bit daft depending on the conspiracy but yeah.

And no, religion is not going anywhere with conservatives, they have their own little religious community and constitute about 25-30% of the country.

Liberals have their academic "professional" high towers in the cities and suburbs and that appears to be sufficient for them.

Leftists have literally nothing in this country, because we have no party and no voice so we don't have any spiritual centers.

proof. you made this claim previous.

any reputable study we has seen shows a more direct link between lack of education and belief in conspiracy theories. iq is not specific addressed most times as iq tests themselves is less objective than one would hope for when conducting these kinda studies. education is concrete and objective. "what is the highest level of education you attained?" is no judgement involved. iq test score is objective proving how you scored on an iq test as 'posed to how intelligent a person is. iq tends to be lower for conspiracy theory believers, but is a fail to draw any such conclusions 'bout intelligence and conspiracy theory belief in part 'cause iq tests is themselves suspect.

bs receptivity is higher 'mongst believers in conspiracy theories with diminished iq being identified as a factor, but again, lack o' education AND being a loser (denotative and not connotative) is the more relevant indicators. if you feel like you personal have gotten the fuzzy end o' the lollipop and you lack education, then your bs receptivity goes up predictable. more unfairness you believe you suffered and less education received results in increased bs receptivity.

schizotypy is presenting the best correlative juxtaposition or predictor o' a belief in conspiracy theory. not clinical schizophrenic, but possessing psychological characteristics which is common in a schizophrenia diagnosis is what is schizotypy. schizophrenics and individuals with schizotypy tend to score poor on iq tests, but again, a typical iq test is a transparent flawed way to assess a person with attention span limitations and disorganized cognition.

try and refrain from seeing the profound in unsupported claims regarding high intelligence and a belief in conspiracy theory. such claims is not gonna help your position and may hurt.

bs receptivity/schizotypy... not need look very far to find obsidian board examples.

That's the dumbest thing I've read today. And that includes things Drumph has written this week. 😄

They smell, they're dirty as **** and dumb as a doorknob. The only good cow is a steak.

well, the pictured cows is dairy cows. just as stinky. just as dumb. dairy cows tend to be less ornery 'cause is tougher to milk a hostile bovine even if is mechanical milking. clean a cow and then they smell more like wet grass than anything-- less smelly.

clean a cow wouldn't inspire us to embrace it.

milk sometimes ends up as cheese. whole lotta varieties o' cheese which requires a cow to exist. minor quibble, but we would point out steaks and cheese.

...

an alpaca? they is docile (typical) and fluffy, but perhaps not big enough to fit the requirements. 'course there is bigger alpacas.  have never hugged an alpaca, but we have given neck rubs to a few... am admitting the manner in which the critters lean into and respond to a neck rub with obvious appreciation brought a childish smile to our face.

alpacas do have vocalizations which may startle folks who ain't familiar with the critters.

HA! Good Fun!
