Living in Australia, I can appreciate what the "new normal" is for bush fire seasons (almost choking to death in my old place in Melbourne last year). Currently just sitting here, tapping my feet impatiently on the floor, procrastinating on the internet and waiting for the container to get delivered to my door with all my old personal belongings. My stuff has spent the last 6 years in self storage in Europe and now I could finally afford to get it shipped down here Much of the stuff was bought down here before I moved to Berlin, but there is also stuff that dates back to my childhood. BruceVC Posted September 14, 2020 Share Posted September 14, 2020 We had a fantastic weekend away, we stayed on a farm called De Hoek just outside the small town of Barrydale. I went on a hike on Saturday and the food was self-catering which my sister and stepmom arranged so we ate like kings It was about 2.5 hours drive outside CPT in an area called The Karoo which is basically a semi-desert with vast sweeping mountain ranges and arid, ancient landscapes. I have tried to include photos below which encapsulate the trip and beautiful scenery. One of the highlights of the drive was going through a mountain, underground pass called the Huguenot Pass. We stopped in Asheville and had a super delicious brunch at a French bistro that was shockingly inexpensive for how nice an establishment it was and how good the food was. We then drove through the Smokies into Tennessee and visited Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. I'm glad I bought those air filter things a while back with all these fires. They're selling out on Amazon like mad. I wish I'd bought a couple more but it's better than nothing. Stuck the smaller one in my PC room and have it noisily going full blast. Seems to help a little. By now the poor air is getting to me (allergies/nose, throat, etc) even sitting indoors all the time (not like our home is 100% air sealed) and it's (the air) "just" 180ish here. Its a small pool, really used just to cool down in and not for real swimming. After my hike on Saturday I used it. I find it only takes me 30 minutes of dread to get out of bed for a 30-minute workout. That workout can be whatever, jog, swim, DDPYoga. Then you have 30 minutes to recover and log in to work late. But have had a good streak of getting back into the habit of getting out, logging on so they think I started work early and then going to play with the dogs or read a bit.
