What do you want in the DLC?

Recommended Posts

Very timely as I have been thinking about it, due to some info revealed in todays Noclip documentary. I am "in main game expansion" kind of guy, rather then a new adventure. According to the documentary early in devlopment they cut content multiple times as they realised that the compact RPG they drafted was too big for what they can do.
L Boyarsky expressed a sentiment of "one cut too many". If so, I would love for them to use expansion to inject at least some of it's content back, if they feel it's possible, or if game in it's current state would benefit of it (I doubt it could be reimplimnented in the way originally planned, but perhaps those ideas could be used as a basis for the expansion).

I am hoping that the content the one developer said he worked on for 6 moths could be included in the DLC.  I agree they don't really need to add any new areas just flesh out the one they have that where really not developed.

Some of the story I would like moved forward is more about the potential intelligent aliens hinted at, maybe have events in the first year of the hope colonists reintegrating back into the world, expansion of skills or new ones such as hand to hand abilities which is hinted at in some of the dialogue, and an expansion on what had happened on earth to make them cut of communication.

a casino with a lot of quest in it would be ideal

I always did like New Reno from Fallout 2 that was a pretty large zone to work through.  In the contexts of TOW it fits because one of the ways to control people is to distract them from their misery so a corporation that had a ship or a planet dedicated to gambling and debauchery would fit in to the scheme.  There is the one town that is suppose to be the guilty getaway place for people but it would be great to see it expanded on.

I see I'm of the same mind as everyone else here -- I saw a lot of stuff in the noclip documentary that I'd love to actually see in the game, and I'm intrigued by the stuff that was cut out -- the 6-month project, the expanded Terra 2 map.

For some reason, I really have Hephaestus on my mind, though.  I'd love to see what they do with that.  I keep thinking of Kim Stanley Robinson's "Mars" series and wonder if they'll have something like Terminator -- the city that rides on rails so that it's always on the night-side of the planet (as the sun heats up the rails behind it, they expand, and "squeeze" the city along the cooler night-side rails).

Also, we've seen canines, primates, insects, reptiles, and something like birds, as animal foes.  Where are the cats at?  I would love to see some cats.  I did some speculating on my own...

More than cats, i want a miniature giant space hamster to follow me around like a mascot or at least on my ship! 😜

Seriously though i hope MS will give them full support, Obsidian deserves it. Every new piece content will be highly appreciated.

Such universe offers almost limitless opportunities in terms of stories to tell, worlds to explore and characters to meet.

Maybe not a hamster (though I admit that would be cool), but it would be great to have a Ship's Sprat. : )

Third person view!

I think the foundation for that is already in the game but not sure they will develop it for a DLC.  That has been a common comment though so  maybe if they keep the series alive we will have that option in the next full iteration of the game world.

I would be curious if it would make the game sells more of copies.

But this is what is wrong in gaming industry - all the agencies of people saying how games should be according to them, while they do all they can to destroy it for others - like saying how it would be worse shooter or how expensive it would be. This game is not a good shooter anyway, never could have been, so it could be atleast accessable to players who were the target audience of such game.  And it could be expensive before they got funded by Microsoft, but now... But even before it would still be possible with DLC - if players are willing to pay for it, why not let them?

Maybe they really didn't have time and maybe there is not enough of players for 3rd person view who would pay for it - I don't know, after all statistically majority of players will accept both.

And even such great games like Greedfall or Vampyre were bashed down for not being perfect and didn't sell many copies. But I'm not sure if it is not better to simply accept that - AAA games make standard now and AA games will never reach it, so you could atleast make the game for people who would enjoy them? And a lot of RPG players do like to see their character. And a lot of players still don't care about perfect skin in realistic graphics but about good movement, content and aestetics. And even the first Vampire the Masquarade managed to have perfect 3rd person view.

For some reason I feel as well that it is not going to happen, so gbye Outerworlds, Vampire the Masquarade2, Cyberpunk and all the other RPG games made for RPG players who will not play it.

If I understood devs explanation well, then adding a functional playable 3rd person view is not a straightforward thing. If they can add it - great. But generally the idea of DLC is to add content, not overhauling the existing engine - you use what you have built already to make more stuff, which you can sell. Adding 3rd person view would means digging in games engine - which could interfere with existing content. WIth how much time the DLC is taking - who knows - bigger expansions can sometimes add pretty significant changes.

As to Microsoft money. This is pre-Microsoft aquisition game. It is published by 2Ks Private Division, not Microsoft. I have no idea how this deal works, but I find it unlikely that Microsoft would fund Outer Worlds development - there is no Microsoft logo to by found. Even so, just throwing more money at the project in the middle of the development is not always helpful. Game has been budgeted, designed and built. Possibly it could have been a bigger project - but that's a subject for post-mortem - not to suddenly increase budget late into development or after release.

All I know is that I can't wait to hear anything about it. It's been 6 months since the DLC announcement and Obsidian didn't say any word about it since then, which is a bit concerning.

Does it mean that we'll get a very big DLC with lot of content and 20+ hours of playtime, or does it mean that it's been delayed because of covid crisis ?

We don't know anything. Maybe it's just taking a lot of time because they only put a very small dev team on it.

I just can't wait for new adventures in the Unreliable with my fantastic crew

I'd like to see an ending reactivity that seems like it has an impact on the end of the game overall. It wouldn't have to actually affect any other ending slides, just one that makes it feel like the choices you made in the DLC had an impact.

An area with a lot of reactivity and choices and consequences. I would enjoy a new companion as well, but that's not absolutely essential.

- Open some of the ridiculous amount of shops that are closed in Byzantium. The place feels dead

- Grenades or traps/mines. Something to spice up combat...and how about being able to disarm mines too

- Another level on Groundbreaker. Atm it feels way too small.

- I know it is too much to ask for, but a vehicle. Just something simple. Monarch is painfully slow walking to each objective with the same mob between.

- More scenes and areas in space/The Unreliable. Peril on Gorgon did this very well

Peril on Gorgon is excellent btw so I'm hopeful for further improvements

As some others have said

Newgame+

Mod Support

And for me, personally, more variety and depth to the equipment system, because right now the gear felt rather lacking after the first few hours of play and seeing almost all of what the game had to offer. The modding / tinkering systems could be so much diverse to allow for better gameplay / customization options. The armor is especially yawn inducing for the most part, as while I can appreciate the attempt to simplify things from a development perspective to get a smooth launch done rather quickly, two armor slots feels lame, and for a sci fi rpg lacking gear and gadgets to utilize for combat and utility is a lost opportunity. We don't need to be switching items constantly to have fun, but when the gear that's found and sold all winds up being identical (yes i know there are some unique items with small differences, and some cosmetically different items), i don't really find myself being excited about finding new toys outside of maybe the few unique science weapons available.

I'd like to see SMGs and semi-auto energy pistols(the Bolter pistol is nice, but I don't like that it's burst fire).

I'd also like to see an overhaul to the weapon ammo. It bugs me that the pistols, Sawed-Off Shotgun, and LMG all use Light Ammo.

New armors, not reskins of the armors already in the game.
