I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Those are basketball fans.  Still an improvement over hockey. 😛

False Idol — Why the Christian Right Worships Donald Trump

Conservative pastor: Jesus would have 'beat the crap' out of John Bolton

we read stuff like the 'bove and lament how the religious right indulges the perfidy and mendacity o' not only the current wh administration but o' too many o' their so-called religious leaders.

the thing is, 40% o' the country reads such stories and nods head sadly at how Gromnir just doesn't get it.

am s'posing if the zealotry were limited to religion, we could be more understanding. the folks who helped make abortion a wedge issue in the late 70s and early 80s is honest believers with a certainty they are complicit in the deaths o' thousands if they do not fight for the lives o' the unborn. say what you will, but such folks honest believe if they do not fight with every tool available to them 'gainst wholesale murder o' those most helpless, they will be damned along with all those more intimate and direct involved in abortion. criticize the belief if you will, but recognize the sincerity and the intentions. as impossible as it may be to communicate with the religious zealots (some, not all,) we at least respect their motivations and their beliefs... up until the point where their actions do actual harm to others more than bruised egos and hurt feelings, we kinda/sorta sympathize.

am just not able to understand how those same folks who on their knees may literal weep in prayer for the unborn, the impoverished and any in pain are able to look past trump's obvious mercenary motives and his methods which are so antithetical to any kinda christian teaching.

regardless, the rolling stone article led us to trump's campaign liaison for christian policy, frank amedia.

Not quite sure that is what I wrote.  But just the fact that mostly non-whites are into basketball if not hockey, here.  People have all kinds of reasoning why it is (one is non integrating immigrants, haha) but really is expense - not cheap to get involved.  Also hockey's got stale marketing.

Well the Iowa caucuses seem to be a clusterasterisk of epic proportions. 2 hours+ of 'quality control' and, supposedly at least, results submitted via a beta app that isn't working and no one knows who wrote? Don't need Russians to make the electoral system look like an incoherent mess and utter disaster, just need a hearty dollop of incompetence and the DNC has more than a hearty dollop of that going by what's happening.

I'm curious to see how different the results will be

Political pundits are suggesting that Bernie and Buttigieg did the best...based on the fact that they're the most happy and communicative about the whole thing, while the Biden campaign has been apparently very withdrawn. Yes, this is now how we're deciding elections - just based on the confidence exuded by the campaign.

(e): Bernie's people supposedly collected an incomplete (40%) dataset:

Biden placing a distant 4th (near 5th!) would be shocking, to say the least.

Biden's speech certainly looked and sounded like it was given by someone coming a poor 4th/ 5th.

So far as process goes this has to be the absolute worst of the worst case for a party that must have been hoping to put the controversies of 4 years ago to bed. No usable digital results, possibly no proper paper trail either since it seems many places didn't get (enough of) the paper forms required, a dodgy app written by developers who it appears have a pretty strong relationship with one of the candidates in particular who did far better than expected; I'm not sure you could practically get worse than that combination for making things look bad. If the lack of paper forms rumour turns out to be true surely they have no option but to to rerun the whole thing, no matter how embarrassing (and unfair to some) that would be...

It sounds like the massive delay now is *because* they're checking all the paper ballots (which they had to do because their garbage app that everyone said was garbage way in advance was predictably garbage!). What a mess. Some of these state parties are so badly run.

I think I'm getting on board a Bernie vs. Trump ticket. It's completely unpredictable. We know who is going to vote for Biden. We have no idea what types of people will show up for Sanders. Given how unpredictable Trump is, I'd say it could be a perfect storm.

Probably a lot that won't actually show up. 😛

That would be an entertaining election. Of course the outcome will be terrible. But, if you are going to hell in a handbasket no matter what you might as well enjoy the ride.

Nothing official yet. A couple of streamers were broadcasting tweets from precinct captains last night, but it's tough to gauge scale (assuming that results were accurate). Campaign says we only need to be in the top 5 to have a ticket.

HA! Good Fun!

The Democrats have a somewhat undeserved reputation for being hostile to religion. Some factions that make up the Democrat party absolutely are. Some Democrats in elected office are. And they are really nasty about it. Your Senator Feinstein comes to mind. But on the whole it is not true. The Republicans have been, in the past, regarded as the champions of individual liberties. The freedom of religion being on of the big ones. That was mostly true once but now, not really. Political support is something of a habit I've observed. My father was a red blooded southern Democrat who supported them because they were "for the working man like me" long after that ceased to be true.  They guys at the VFW were Reagan converts and have been staunch Republicans ever since because the GOP put America's interests first if that was ever even true. They supported Trump for that same reason. I think, even without the encouragement of religious leaders people who vote on the basis of religious faith will gravitate to the Republicans because that is what they did in the past.

I do agree the strong feelings abortion evokes in people are sincerely felt. But nowhere I've read does the Christian faith charge people to stop the sins of others. In fact we are told to love the sinner and hate the sin. If abortion is a sin it's between the person doing it and God and no one else. We are all countable only for ourselves.

So apparently the tech firm behind the app causing such a ****storm have ties to the Buttigieg campaign, and he seems to be the only candidate who is happy right now. Will be interesting to see what numbers get pulled out.
