I hate shaving, it's a chore, but on the upside my medicines has stopped the beardgrowth to a crawl, I had a clean shave a month ago, and it's only grown about half an inch since then. :)

I have been working on a project the last 4 weeks that involved lots of inter-city travelling, it was important but tiresome

Anyway I got back on Friday and its been great relaxing this weekend and doing some socializing 🍻

I tried to grow a "Hulk Hogan" stache over the Christmas holiday. It came in fine but I seem to have a lot of grey facial hair now so it was kinda grey/black and made me look like I should be driving a beat up van. My kid had literally never seen me with a mustache and said "I cant take you serious with that thing".

Its a beautiful day today, blue skies and ~50F temperature! w00t! Ive already completed all my weekend chores so its just a relax day for me.

I oscillate between 5 o'clock shadow and struggle beard. But I also refuse to shave as it causes me so much skin irritation and only use beard trimmers which leave me with the aforementioned 5 o'clock scruff look.

I guess I can never be a Yankee but that's nothing of value.

I'm prepping for a colonoscopy today. Yay. I'm getting the endoscopy done as well, which is probably the more worrisome one in terms of results.

But the prep...ugh.

I know that feeling too well, you have my sympathies :(

Thanks. It is pretty trippy when your stool clears up and smells like mango. 💩

am knowing you are focusing on the scattelogical angle, but am expressing hope you get positive results from your procedures.

also, am knowing endoscopy and colonoscopy is considered relative routine, but am also knowing they sometimes require general anesthesia, which by definition should not be considered routine.

...

also can't help but observe how you went and got yourself in presumably the best physical condition you have been in for a long time and now you got all these unpleasant gi issues. doesn't seem fair, does it?

regardless, gl.

HA! Good Fun!

It is suprisingly common for endurance athletes to struggle with GI issues. But the alternatives of high blood pressure pills, heart disease, etc. and are much worse long term.

I was shaking during the entire procedure amd had to really calm it down. I was also very aware. But it was fast and nothing major seems to be wrong. There is some esphogal issues that I will be trying some acid blockers for.

I am also back on bread, so super happy. Two days of fasting was no fun.

Good to hear you're ok, Hurl :)

Pizza is technically bread, so I had bread for breakfast! :p

y'know, 'bout a decade past we went to the dr. 'cause o' a voice problem-- raspy. not ideal to be an attorney who has difficult making himself heard. no doubt hurl would be in a similar situation as a teacher if he sounded as if he had laryngitis all the time.  anywho, initial diagnosis were acid reflux/gerd. but there were polyps and other stuff which doctor believed needed to be tested. so they put us through a whole bunch o' procedures to functional confirm we had acid reflux.

treatment: take prilosec.

literal months o' testing and procedures for "take prilosec."

whatever.

doctors has made us a terrible patient. for a whole bunch o' stuff, early detection is important/vital. is unlikely we ever get early detection as we avoid doctors until it is functional impossible for us to ignore doctors.

regardless, good to hear it were nothing too serious for hurl.

HA! Good Fun!

I've had both done and personally found the endoscopy a lot harder due to an extremely sensitive gag reflex. Good idea I didn't want to become a gay porn star.

We've had some threats at work due to a few recent high-profile cases, so decided to pick up one of those smaller crazy prepper bags that can be used as a shield with a body armor panel. Nothing like tax-deductible toys, I guess.

Probably going to pick up some type of rudimentary satellite communication device like the Garmin Inreach ones for me and my parents., now that my paranoia levels are suitably elevated.

I've had two endoscopies.  I'm a big guy and the anesthesiologist screwed up the dosing on one and I was awake and aware and remember the whole time.  I was joking with my wife that I could have driven home just fine.  The poor anesthesiologist beat a hasty retreat, but I would have told her no hard feelings if she hadn't left.  She clearly felt bad about it.  Meh, I've had worse happen to me.

Meanwhile, I've been running around getting things ready for my first day in acute rehab.  Bought scrubs and had them hemmed.  Brushing up on some of my core skills that may have been a little rusty in the time I took off between getting my license and starting work.  Still working on Advanced Pharmacology, which is a real brute of a class.  Touching base with my academic adviser to map out the remainder of my grad school classes.

Today, I gave my 80th donation and thus have given 10 gallons of blood to date.  Tomorrow is my first day at work.  Life. is. good!

With those Garmin devices, you can also safely become a wilderness explorer.

Eh, plenty of time to die of exposure here in the time it takes for rescue to arrive, even with the warmer winters these days.

I don't know if it's true/works, since I'd be a great gay porn star if I could be arsed to get an attractive body, but when they did an bronchoscopy on my lungs they gave me a spray to numb the gag-reflex. Told them to try without, since I couldn't drink for two hours afterwards, and had to sit there thirsting and waiting for the non-effective sedative to "wear off"...

Acute rehab? Que?

I've wanted to start giving blood for ages, since I'm an universal donor, but my boss won't let me off work early to go. They only have open hours during the day when I work, and close before I have a remote chance to get there. =/

Acute rehab is just a rehab hospital where the patients typically have had strokes or been in car accidents.  Stuff like that.  Occasionally, someone's primary doctor sends him or her because of overall health and mobility issues, but I think that's a little rare.  Ballard was my first choice.  Patients can be severely impaired, but you have them long enough to see them improve and go home healthier and more functional.  A lot of my peers wanted to do ICU or Emergency, but I know from experience I would rather not have to deal with a death environment.  I mean, I'll do what I've gotta do, but I want to go somewhere with the reasonable expectation that the mass of my patients will leave alive.  I did my clinicals at this hospital and they recognized me when I interviewed.

Don't worry about the donation.  Give what you can when you can and they'll be happy to take it.  It's about feeling good for what you can do, not guilty about what you can't.  I know, easier said than done.

Ahh, I see, I've never heard that term before so I was wondering 😃

Definetly easier said than done, haha! I'm hoping that it'll get better once I get my truck licence, I'm mostly annoyed at my bosses for not recognizing that there is a huge demand for blood, even though it was higher in December. Then I feel bad that I haven't quit this place yet 😛
