Yeah, no way I'm touching this while in beta. The final edition of Kingmaker still has gamebreaking bugs so I doubt that will be playable to any satisfying degree. Plus I have still yet to finish the first part. 😄

I have about 400 hours in the alpha and it hasn't been too bad (one gamebreaking bug that came out with the last update and confirmed fixed in the beta). Obviously the beta will be a whole new ballgame.

Based on my experience in PnP and Kingmaker with the Call of the Wild mod, I think it's a good striker but really excels as a tank.

A wild update appeared!

Will there be some cool races this time? Or usual ork/elf/dwarf thing?

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Just now getting into it, the class preview in character creation doesn't show you as much. There's an addition preview, but it doesn't take archetypes into account which makes it not very useful.

Paladin. :)

Paladins can now pick up a mount instead of enhance weapons for their Divine Bond. The two archetypes are the Martyr and the Warrior of the Holy Light. The former gets Bard abilities and more support, the latter trades in spells for more Lay on Hands uses and an aoe buff.

Skald, warpriest, druid archetypes

Druid archetype is the Drovier, which is forced into taking the Animal Companion Nature Bond (notably different than PnP) and trades in Wild Shape for the ability to buff allies with aspect spells.

Base Skalds are going to be better than Bards at melee heavy groups and can share Barbarian Rage Powers, but not very great with mixed or spellcaster heavy groups as their base song disables spellcasting. They can fight better than Bards though. Battle Scion can pick up bonus feats instead of Rage Powers and share them. Court Poet buffs Intelligence and Charisma instead of melee ability, which makes it better for Arcane heavy groups and not very good for martial heavy or mixed groups. Demon Dancer can give allies demon abilities instead of picking up the first three rage powers. Herald of the Horn gets Arcane Bond (extra spell per day) and boosts for Sonic spells. Hunt Caller has some Druid abilities, unlike PnP ability to turn party members into animals doesn't show up.

Warpriest looks like a pretty solid Fighter/Cleric combo, it's got good proficiencies, enough bonus feats to easily carve out a fighting style, decent spellcasting, can enhance both weapons and armor, and can heal on demand with Fervor. One notable difference from PnP is that Fervor can't be used to quicken spells, which is a pretty big nerf but not a damning one. Champion of the Faith can smite instead of channel energy, doesn't look to lose out on the first bonus feat, but does lose out on the ability to enhance their weapons. Cult Leader trades out proficiencies and bonus feats for sneak attack. Disenchanter gets to be good as dispelling stuff and instead of combat feats gets stuff that helps them on saves or dispelling. Feral Champion gets to grow claws and wildshape instead of enhance armor. Proclaimer can damage evil outsiders instead of heal with Fervor. Shieldbearer is a shield bash specialist and most abilities revolve around shields instead of weapons or armor.

Mmmmm, I really like the divine weapon bond... But as far as I saw the mount attacks with you. The latter also seems more interesting to play.

Doesn't look like warpriest got much of an update from the alpha. Per the notes, some of the classes are still incomplete. Either warpriest is one of them or they intend to ship the game with crappy take on that class. The most frustrating thing, imo, is not being able to take fighter bonus feats using the warpriest level as BAB.

Oh, and get ready for all your quick menu slots being full once you hit mythic levels; warpriests get all the icons.

Tried running an Arcanist. I couldn't figure out how to prepare spells (only shows spells per day and spells known) and got stuck with Magic Missile and Shield. After getting tpk'd by a Large Water Elemental I deleted the character. Everything else was relatively easy, but I did have some trouble with doors in turn-based mode.

Initial party is the PC, Paladin, a melee specd Shaman, and the ranged Monk. Paladin is pretty straightforward and built to tank, Shaman is built away from spells and towards finesse melee which is more than a little odd, and the Monk has high scores in all big stats and does good damage. Noticeably, all of the first companions you pick up are from classes that didn't have representatives in Kingmaker.

I think the other archer you get in the beginning is a temporary companion, but I'm not sure

It depends on how mounted combat is implemented. If they go too close to PnP it will get defeated by regular sized doors.

The really frustrating thing for me is that Fervor and Level as BAB for feats is already implemented correctly in the Call of the Wild mod for Kingmaker. And no Sacred Fist.

It should work like an animal companion. I'll let you know when (if?) I get there.

Her archetype is similar to Magus class. And last sentence I didn't notice that at all.

Not really, it doesn't have spell combat or spell strike which go a lot further in making the Magus than the weapon enhancement. I think there are a few hexes she can pick up that helps though, but levels 1 and 2 are fairly rough.

our approval o' pathfinder: kingmaker were marginal given a few o' the perpetual bugs, our dissatisfaction with 3.5 legacy dnd, and our frustration with the horrible kingdom building mechanic. the ap (adventure path) wotr is based 'pon were also not a fave for us, although the first two adventures weren't bad. tragic, the ap descended into stoopid right quick after those initial offerings.

our ambivalent approval were not enough to keep us from backing a tier which included beta access. go figure. we recognized the only potential games we would be playing in early 2021 were betas for bg3 and wotr. beggars and choosers. whatever.

haven't managed to steel our self enough to actual play the wotr beta, but am certain to try out a zen archer/inquisitor at some point. likely a dwarf.

is too bad for shady that owlcat went with wotr, 'cause carrion crown were not only a fantastic ap (top three out o' ~ two dozen in our estimation) but it were filled with gothic stuff.

HA! Good Fun!

finally started playing the beta. for a beta it is pretty solid. haven't experienced a crash in something approaching fifteen hours o' gaming... though admitted a significant % o' our fifteen hours were spent at the character generation screen. is a whole lotta minor bugs, but most is simple math errors or the kinda thing which disappears after a reload. example: our zen archer is not benefiting from the correct ac bonus for wisdom... at least not always. am not sure what is the trigger as isn't an ability or equipment issue. am also losing extra attack from flurry unless we activate and then deactivate rapid shot ability. is minor annoyances at this point.

am about to choose our inquisitor class, but is difficult from the character generation screen to tell exactly how faith hunter is implemented. might take sanctified slayer this time.

have been playing exclusive tb. a few larger battles is rather time consuming in tb, but am otherwise satisfied with tb in general.

we do not have the gnome or the half-succubus, but the other companions is having useful stat distributions and classes. sure, we wish there were a respec function, but am having minor quibbles over stats and abilities.

whatever problems we have with the game is expected. wotr is a munchkiny pathfinder adventure, so fact we gotta ultra-specialize is kinda part o' the game dna and there nothing owlcat were gonna do to change the fundamental nature o' the ruleset.  we haven't finished what would be the conclusion o' the first ap module, so we do not have an army; can't say whether army management is better or worse than kingmaker kingdom building.  am expecting disappointment from the army, so anything less than rage inducing frustration will be an improvement compared to our experience from the previous title.

am not near as angry as dennis green, but if you played kingmaker, wotr is gonna be what you thought it would be. good news is that for a beta, wotr is a solid piece o' work and so far we would say it looks like the game needs fine tuning as 'posed to major fixes. when is game s'posed to be released? am having no idea as to release as we never bothered to look for such info. that said, if you told us the game were gonna be released in a few months, we would be neither shocked or worried.

HA! Good Fun!

our first major bug would be annoying if this weren't a beta. at the end of the first chapter, the player is required to makes choices which correspond with mythic paths and alignments. choose "good" is a dead-end... which could be owlcat commentary. at the very least, a couple of the "lawful" options were viable.

am s'posing we will try a bit o' wotr army management in the coming days.

as an aside, am not certain how xp is generated, but our 4-man party is having little more xp than our 6-man party does. am recalling in kingmaker we took fewer party members and level'd a bit quicker, but am noticing almost negligible xp variance depending on party size.

HA! Good Fun!
