As far as I know, you will be launching the game from/through Origin whether you buy it on Steam or directly from EA. Same as with Ubi games.

And yeah. It's EA. But it's one of the very, very few good single player games without bull**** monetization schemes they have released in a while, so I'd give it a pass.

Disco Elysium (I caved)

Oh my goodness what a great game.  The style/theme is really what knocks it out of the park.  Awkward at times sure but you don't get much better than this as far as crpg's go.  The Outer Worlds is the best streamlined RPG of the year whilst Disco is easily the best niche RPG.

I honestly dont remember when my steam crashed...

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

CoP is the best in the series, Clear Sky is meh, and SoC is great with the right mods.

CoP has some great mods to but vanilla holds up best out of the bunch.

Happy stalking, comrade :salute:

I am playing SoC with the Stalker Complete 2009 mod. I know a lot of people hate it but it is working just fine.

I'll look for the right mods for Clear Sky.

I finished Rise of the Torture Porn Raider. It's a significantly better game than the 2013 game. There's still far too much murdering for my taste, but it's not as ludicrous as the previous game. Also, I became so OP eventually that combat was trivial. This game had a lot more actual tomb raiding and they were designed better too. Still not as challenging as I would have liked, but a step up from the insultingly easy puzzles of the 2013 game.

I don't usually care about 100%-ing a game, but it will take a while to finish downloading Shadow of the Torture Porn Raider on truck stop wifi and I'm already at 86% so I might give it a go.

There was a great mod on the horizon from russia, you could add some weaponmods in on the fly basically, like different magazines, and he had attachable reflex sights and such. Then he got drafted and I never heard more about it. ._.

I have just reach level 8 in Pillars of Eternity with my whole group. I have just arrived at 7th floor of The Endless Paths, and then, I still need to finish Heritage Hill district of Defiance Bay. After that, I will move finally to the first part of the White March Expansion. Sometimes I completely **** up some pulls down under, and in the 6th floor my tank finished one of these fights with last 3HPs before permanent death 😛 I have to be more cautious :)

Ooops!

I was at the garbage and decided to help Bes fight the bandits. So we kill all the bandits and he calls me over. But just as we are having a conversation, one of the bandits comes out of hiding and shoots Bes dead. Turns out one of them was still alive.

Bes died. :( I have his 'special' AK-47 now. See? This is why I love this game.

Should I try and keep him alive? Can't remember if there were further encounters with him or not.

Does anyone here have Origin launcher installed and/or in one's opinion, is there any major reason to avoid using it, whether technical or "moralistic?"

eg, "moral" like how I don't want to use Epic until they stop certain practices.

I'm slightly interested in that Jedi game plus I'm currently curious about a technical/performance aspect to Origin version of FFXV vs Steam's. I probably wouldn't use Origin much overall.

I occasionally use Origin (the last time on 01/01/2020). The only technical issue I have is that the launcher does not save my password when starting in offline mode, everything else works fine - it allows to purchase games, to launch them and I disabled the "social" elements that were added few years ago, so it does not bother me.

----

God Eater 3. I've finished the 7th Rank (the story was presented via text-only mission descriptions), extra episodes "Another Devil" and "Traversing the Past" (for 5 companions). It seems that I probably should have waited longer - there is more content to be released that is crucial to the main story. I had hoped to complete the game during the holidays, so it is rather irritating.

Well the biggest moral reason woul be "It's EA" 😛

Hehe. Indeed. ;)

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like at least there's no serious tech problems so that's something.

There's always been the game here and there with Uplay and Origin I might've been interested in but just didn't want to install yet another "thing" only for a single "could be fun" game or two.  Especially as software trends in general is something I dislike more all the time/want to avoid installing anything, really. Haven't even used GoG's launcher. Hard to make up my mind is all.

I like the new GOG launcher, as I have it linked to all the other launchers, so I have my library in one place and can launch everything from there (true, it then launches the other launchers, but I don't have to do it manually).

tried Xcom again. got kicked ass by some king viper - clearly my team was ready for it AT ALL. It bothers me that game does not show any sign of what to expect in some missions and if there is some time limit ot start them. That was my last iron man attempt. Its really unplayable it that way before previous playthrough...

So Syberia 3 not only has the worst ending I've encountered in a long time but also the most insulting DLC ever.  Has two, uh, "puzzles" and a ridiculous ending.   Sokal et al. have some balls charging $5 for this, glad I got in the bundle.

Katana ZERO. It was more of a puzzle with action elements, than an action-platformer. It is stunningly beautiful visually (I could not take screenshots with Steam, though), the soundtrack and sound effects are quite good (I turned off the former after one of my unsuccessful attempts to beat a level). The controls felt tight and are rebindable, 5-button mice are not supported. The choices in dialogues and gameplay affect the later chapters. The story is interesting and well presented, using cut-scenes and gameplay sequences. I have not encountered any bugs or crashes.
I've successfully reached the ending (there was a cliffhanger) and did not like the game, despite it being objectively good. I suppose, the instant-death combat was more frustrating, than satisfying for me.

Shadow of the Torture Porn Raider. I was at my company's home terminal yesterday. While the wifi there is by no means blazing fast, it's still significantly faster than the average truck stop wifi, so I was able to finish downloading the game.

I'm glad it seems that this game will take place in a warmer locale. I wanted to rock a tank top in Rise, but I couldn't bring myself to make Lara wear that in Siberia. While running the benchmark to find my optimal graphical settings, I noticed Lara wearing a blue tank top, which made me happy, but she had on long pants. GIVE ME THE KHAKI SHORTS YOU COWARDS! I should scour Nexus Mods and such, somebody must have made a mod that allows me to turn Nu Lara into OG Lara if the game doesn't have the blue tank top and khaki shorts outfit available.

I haven't played anything past the intro yet. True to form, the game starts out with a dirty, bloodied, and bruised Lara. Somebody at Eidos or Crystal Dynamics has a serious hard on for torture porn. I will give the developers a big thumbs up for giving me the option to fine tune difficulty, allowing me to turn exploration and puzzles to hard while keeping combat at normal.

Mass Effect trilogy. Outer Worlds made me crave some classic Bioware stuff.

Plan was to play Mass Effect2, as it's been a long time since I played it, but as I didn't have a save to import, I loaded a half-way complete save for ME1 and completed that first. I also plan to continue over to ME3 - never played any of it's DLCs, and the last time I played ME3 was around it's release. I am curious if I will hate it as much as I did back then.

I am surprised that I don't enjoy ME2 as much as I did. For all it's faults ME1 had scope, consistancy and immersion, which ME2 lacks. Small things, but they matter - changing how traveling works, means that Normandy leaves the station everytime you return to the ship . Being in direct control of the ship, just doesn't gel, with being commander, rather then pilot. No Mako sequences make the world feel small, even though content wise ME2 is most likely far more packed then it's precedessor. While combat is improved, it is still not a good action shooter. The only thing I don't miss is managing the inventory, which was a boring chore in ME1. Plot of ME2 has some odd plot choices and forced melodrama, which I didn't bother me before. There is also far less companion content then I remembered.

Overall, ME1 felt much more grounded and immersive, then ME2. ME2 feels much more gamey, and faster pace breaks the illusion much easier.

Just remember Citadel for ME3. Yes, it is pure fan-wankery, but its glorious fan-wankery that will likely have you chuckling away.

It almost looks like a movie on max settings.  Perhaps Ray Tracing is more potent than I had originally thought because I've never played something that looks so realistic, almost ridiculously so.

Now gameplay wise, I give it a 7/10, as it brings nothing new to the table but manages to fulfill familiar ground decently enough, I have a hard time getting over the turbo streamlined interface though, was never really my bag.  To me, press 'Q' to highlight every bit of collectible loot leaves something to be desired.

You can just not press "Q", which is what I do. I never use Raider Vision, or whatever this game calls Detective Vision, Witcher Sense, etc.

I am a big Raider fan, but the new series never appealed to me. I found characters and story unappealing, and gameplay is well crafted, but far to relient on flashy but shallow setpieces. I am somewhat curious about "Shadow". I heard it has little combat, and has more exploration then previous two games. It will have to wait for the new rig, though.

Oddly enough, I felt that Dark Souls1 scratched my Tomb Raider itch. Exploration, and forboding massive ruins is what I remember of the old TR games.
