Maybe it's a nod to the old Sierra era?

They were terrible in those games too.

Listen, I like stealth games. The problem is that stealth mechanics in games not specifically designed around stealth are, almost without exception, UNBELIEVABLY HORRIBLE.

In the case of this game there is one spot you can stand in and if you are 1/100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000th of an inch in any direction off that exact spot, the dog will see you, through buildings, mind you. Then you have to run with razor thin timing to another spot using point n click mechanics that work 50% of the time and pathing that makes Infinity Engine games laugh.

I might get back to Battleborn and finish the Singleplayer campaign now that Gearbox is pulling the plug on it.  You'd expect them to let you play the singleplayer campaign but nooooo, the game will be unplayable according to Gearbox. Now I have no chance of playing the DLCs either.

Digital distribution is the future they said...

EDIT:

This is a bonus I guess, anybody noticed this?

First EA killed Darkspore single player, leaving me without a game.

Then Squeenix killed their shop, leaving those of us who had a game on their site without games.

Now gearbox is killing single player Battleborn?

Yeah, I am going to limit my game purchases and concentrate on getting my money's worth out of what I got, while I still got it.

Trying the Keep on the Borderlands mod in the old ToEE game I re-purchased from GoG. (I couldn't get my disk-based install to run properly.) It's a bit grindy and not quite 100% polished, but is playable and I'm enjoying using the turn-based engine for combat again.

As the publisher 2k is, technically, killing Battleborn rather than Gearbox.

For the latter, buying from somewhere that gives you offline installers has always been the best option- and if you don't, don't spend more than you're prepared to lose. You could also imagine all the people who buy extremely expensive DRMed products like Tractors at 250k a pop which can only be used at the sufferance of John Deere and friends for their entire lifetime...

I finished Sherlock Holmes: Secret of the Silver Earring. It's a pretty enjoyable point & click marred by 2 short sections. The first is a stealth section I already ranted about in an earlier post. The second is an "action" sequence where you have to put out a fire in a limited amount of time by running through a forest maze to a pond to get water. The maze aspect of it is fine, I'm cool with a memory challenge, it's the finicky point n click controls and horrible pathing that make this frustrating.

Visually, the game holds up very well for a 15 year old title. The backgrounds, in particular, are quite lovely. Animations are a bit stiff, but not Morrowind-level horrible.

Sound is overall good. Quite a few nice classical pieces of music make for a good background track. Voice acting is all over the place, but the main characters are well voiced.

I quite enjoyed the writing. The story was engaging and the dialogue was mostly well written. The conclusion at the end where Holmes confronts the guilty party(ies), plays a bit of a gambit, and lays everything out how it happened was great. I always love that part.

I guess I'll play Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened next. Fingers crossed that it has no stealth section.

It has one, but that part works a lot better in this game than in Secret of the Silver Earring. Just crouch and you'll be fine.

I'm currently replaying Fallout: New Vegas.

A little bit of Sairento VR, but mostly Skyrim VR.

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Well, Phoenix Point is XCOM alright. Sniper has a "sure" shot. The whole enemy square within the reticule. Can't miss, what with this being true trajectory. As he fires, the idle animation of the target opens the tiniest gap between arm and torso. Obviously the bullet goes through that. Enemy breathes out, chest deflates and dodges the bullet.

God of Collecting Unique Equipment and Potions. At least, that's what I was doing in BG. I would add "Adventuring", but it is in Tymora's portfolio.

Reached the point in Phoenix Point where the factions start all out war between them. All the fighting against the Pandorans they never did, they do now. Within 5 minutes New Jericho and Synedrion each wiped out two havens of the other.

I know that feeling all too well, but I've never finished NV before. I got ill, my computer broke down etc. Now I've started over because I couldn't relate to the old character anymore. I couldn't even remember how I've played her.

And I still have to finish Divinity: Original Sin because my old computer couldn't handle the snow in the other world. I have to finish Wasteland 2, Pathfinder: Kingmaker, and Final Fantasy VI because during all three of them I got bored somewhere along the way and felt more like playing something else. Also, I still have to play Torment: Tides of Numenera, Divinity 2 (not OS2), Shadow Run Returns, Dragon's Dogma, and Tales of Symphonia. And those are just the newer ones I've already bought. Not to mention a few classics I've missed back in the day, like Ultima Underworld. Oh, and I want to replay Pillars of Eternity because I'm not satisfied with my character anymore, so I want a new one to import into Deadfire.

How did I manage to fall so far behind? Well, after all those enemy armies in Mass Effect 2 I was tired of fighting. Nothing that contained any combat appealed to me for long. That phase lasted a couple of years, but now I'm back with all my heart. I have to hurry, because next year is packed with promising RPG releases. Fortunately, I rarely buy at release day, so I'll get the new ones cheaper later on. If I can resist Cyberpunk for that long.

More Pillars of Eternity. I have finished two sidequests around Gilded Vale and unlocked few discounts that way. I have also died two times, when fighting against pack of two enemies which were to high level for me 😛 The third attempt after running around the whole Black Meadow map were successful, but still very close to death, especially my Eder tank was very close 😛 The reward was Fine Wand at the altar and few other thingies :) Aloth was amused :)

If you do not have anything better to do, you can listen to my horrible Slavic accent here 😄 (3 videos uploaded so far in the playlist 😛 )

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Hm, I kinda prefer it that way to the "WOW guys! Check THAT out! AWESOME! Yeah!!" fake style so frequent in YouTube LPs. In fact, I prefer when the player is completely mute, but if they have to speak, I prefer when they talk like a normal, not high on speed person.

I think the "bored" vibe is mostly coming from the way you sometimes speak while audibly inhaling/exhaling, with the cadence possibly affected by looking for the right words? I've had people tell me I sound exasperated over VoIP because I tend to do that too.
