ComradeYellow
Would they feel the same about PoE 2? Never played. Asking for a friend.
Wormerine
I think they might/might not like it. It depends what they exactly didn't they like.

Boeroer
I personally would't care about Deadfire if I wouldn't have liked PoE much. But that's just me - people are different. Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods
PK htiw klaw eriF
Probably, Deadfire is an improvement in many ways but it is the same kind of game as PoE. "Akiva Goldsman and Alex Kurtzman run the 21st century version of MK ULTRA." - majestic "I'm gonna hunt you down so that I can slap you square in the mouth." - Bartimaeus "Without individual thinking you can't notice the plot holes." - InsaneCommander "Just feed off the suffering of gamers." - Malcador "You are calling my taste crap." -Hurlshort "thankfully it seems like the creators like Hungary less this time around." - Sarex "Don't forget the wakame, dumbass" -Keyrock "Are you trolling or just being inadvertently nonsensical?' -Pidesco "we have already been forced to admit you are at least human" - uuuhhii "I refuse to buy from non-woke businesses" - HoonDing "feral camels are now considered a pest" - Gorth "Melkathi is known to be an overly critical grumpy person" - Melkathi "Oddly enough Sanderson was a lot more direct despite being a Mormon" - Zoraptor "I found it greatly disturbing to scroll through my cartoon's halfing selection of genitalias." - Wormerine "Am I phrasing in the most negative light for them? Yes, but it's not untrue." - ShadySands
xzar_monty
What I think is important is that it might be difficult to even understand Deadfire without the background given in PoE.

It depends what they exactly didn't they like. Well they thought the premise was good but at the same time they felt the game played out like a cluster**** and was trying too many angles all at once. Basically sounded good on paper but was poorly executed. If Pillars 2 didn't chew any fat and was just a copy paste of the original then they wouldn't like it. Boeroer
Mechanically, Deadfire is a lot different from PoE. If one likes the world, lore, stories but didn't like the mechanics then Deadfire might be worth a shot. The combat is less messy, the rules are more straightforward/systemically coherent (even though they are still deep and somethimes hard to figure out) and some of the "old" mechanics like so-called vancian casting and the separation of endurance and health are gone. Jarmo
Halfway through PoE2 now. I'd say it's somewhat less angsty, not so "life is hard and then you die". Still a bit overly complex set of rules and item/spell effects. The setting is lighter and more colourful, south sea isles instead of grimdark tolkien. But it's still mostly the same thing.
