Yo, what's Alaska going for these days? Asking for a (possibly formerly KGB) friend

Wonder how much Denmark would charge for it.  Saw one estimate for $553 B but that ignored resources.

@BruceVC the US has spied on the rest of the world and influenced regional politics and toppled democratically elected governments to replace them with puppets for decades. I'm not sure if anyone is *really* surprised when other countries eventually try to return the favour. Heck, for two decades (at least), the US has been spying on European citizens and companies via the Echelon system (google bbc and echelon for a more in-depth art article on it).

Couldn't help but burst out laughing when I read the BBC news this morning. Good on you Ms Frederiksen, one woman who is very unimpressed by Trump, there is apparently no limit to how far he will go embarrass himself.

Gorthfuscious lets not use such reductive words as " spied " and " toppled ", they tend to frame this debate in a negative light

Rather see this as making the world safer, dont you want to live in a safe world ? :shrugz:

Trump was very rude to cancel his Denmark trip, really unacceptable presidential behavior

I can't find where I saw it, but an estimate from Stewards Folly's amount adjusted for inflation was a couple hundred billion, Malcador may have it right. Not exactly 'peanuts' but still within the amount the government throws around regularily.

I wonder if Trump ever considered how much he would actually pay, maybe he thought he'd just pay 700 million (which is the loss he claims), but it'd really be at several trillion when you take into account the resources, and then theres the societal and management cost. Greenland also lacks the infrastructure (and with a tiny fraction of the US population) for big projects, so, we'd be pouring tons of investiment into what amounts to nation-building.

Sure, it has loads of resources, but unlike back in the 1860's where people were unaware of the mineral riches (though there may have been inklings of it), we know just about everything that we can find about resources in and around Greenland, so, Denmark wouldn't be selling it on the cheap if they even wanted to sell it in the first place.

Someone once stole my identity.  They returned it eventually.

Can you imagine going through all the trouble to steal someone's identity only to find out they are dead broke, their credit sucks, and the are in serious student loan debt most of which are in default. And the creditors are now harassing the identity thief for payment!

Gotta say, I love those houses in Greenland. I'd hate to see them get taken over by the US. They would all be condemned as blight and seized by the government who will then turn around and sell the land to developers who will build 100k houses from faux-crete and cheap Chinese drywall with zero lot line divisions starting in the mid $300k's,

Of course we could go another way. If they won't sell we'll just triple our greenhouse gas emissions and melt them! Muh ha ha!

That would be appropriate justice for identity theft...now the really interesting question is would the identity thief pay off any debt , I doubt it  8)

Inslee & Hickenlooper are out of the running. 10 candidates have qualified for the next round of the playoffs... I mean debate. The best candidate is still on the outside looking in. I donated $100 to her campaign. If anyone had ever told me the day would come when I would not only support but actually donate to a f-----g Democrat I'd have called them a liar. Strange days we find ourselves in.

I think they should still split it into two groups if it's even 10 because 10 doesn't allow for a whole loit more than soundbites, then again, it's enormously difficult to avoid an 'undercard' group or the possible perception of one. CNN tried to keep it balanced but still ended up with quite different groups. Anyways, since the fourth set of debates (if they're still splitting it into two) use the same qualification rules as the third, there may actually end up being more in that one than the third.

edit: Meanwhile, Inslee and Hickenlooper are running for a third Governor term and a Senate bid respectively.

I was reading something about Gabbard breaking 2% in several other polls but that they didn't count because of who sponsored them rather than because of how they were conducted. Dunno how accurate that is but I'll see if I can find the article.

She's also the only one I've given money to but that isn't as surprising because even though I'm not a Democrat I'm on the left of a lot of issues.

Found it

Yeah, this format sucks. I would prefer something like scheduling each candidate to get an hour to talk unchallenged, uninterrupted about their campaign and the platform they're running on like a week in advance (maybe one candidate for an hour each night?), THEN having this yell-for-time shouting match...err, I mean, debate, where they and the moderators can challenge each other on the ideas they previously presented. Networks probably aren't interested in that because it wouldn't get much views, but giving each candidate a chance to talk televised (preferably live) at their own pace about what they want would probably be useful at informing us what kind of personality and campaign they intend to project rather than only being able to listen to all of their desperate attempts to simply get air time.

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

Technically she really doesn't need to poll too high at this point, as long as she can bring in enough money to stay in the race. Once a few more drop out, she will gain visibility. But yeah, still a long shot. I looked up how Obama was polling before he become the frontrunner and he was a lot more visible.

I Googled "which democratic candidate is socialist" and got this chart from Mar. Assuming it is reasonably accurate it looks like Im going to have to vote Sanders or Warren. The next closest; Harrris, Gabbard and Booker are too middle-of-the-road.

A bunch of their definitions are kind of arbitrary, trade for example, I don't think even the most hardcore communist fearing conservative thinks being protectionist Trump-style is socialist. Meanwhile, blood red communist China has this hybrid capitalist-socialist economy, so, does that mean free trade is socialism? The problem is that the term 'socialism' has been muddled to near meaninglessness as they acknowledge.

I think they should have put Trump down as a comparison, yes, he is unadvowedly capitalistic, but given that they are calling Ttrumps trade position socialist......

I think Sanders is the most likely one to give me three hots and a cot (UHC, free school). Hes also got another 2.18T earmarked for replacing the windows in my house, so I cant really go wrong here. Meh, now I have to register to vote again, which opens me up to jury duty. 👎

So, the US tested a land launched tomahawk missile on Tuesday after withdrawing from the INF Treaty which previously prohibited them and launchers capable of firing them. Not really news as such, except they used the same Mark 41 launcher for the test they insisted was INF compliant in Aegis Ashore. Nice of them to provide the proof they'd been abrogating the treaty for years, though one suspects the avalanche of media admitting Russia was right on the issue will be a trickle, if that.

Not something that can be blamed on Trump either this time, Aegis Ashore was to all practical purposes Obama's child (albeit it was GWB's baby) so the practical collapse of this treaty can be put at Obama's feet even if Trump did the actual withdrawal.
