Meh, looks like the same old, boring coop cliches. Real gameplay won't look anything like that anyway.

Not exactly news, but the article seems relevant, considering the recent 5.0 update for PoEII:
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/the-pressure-to-constantly-update-games-is-pushing-the-industry-to-a-breaking-point/

It's disheartening to see comments like "this game is dead" (not talking about PoEII here; Devil May Cry V might serve as an example), when the developers announce that the game is complete.

Just another reason, why the Live Service model is unsustainable in the long term.

Giving your kids money to spend on virtual cosmetics sounds like seriously questionable parenting to me.

Bonus points for becoming a whale-by-proxy. Tim Sweeney appreciates your support.

They steal their parents cards, though.

Example in my country, miserable dad asked for help on steam & local forums, since bank rejected to help him, no returning money for him.

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

The only question I have regarding this topic is: why would you pay for cosmetics...at all?! I enjoyed unlocking skins in Borderlands 2 but paying for something like that?!

I still haven't been able to figure this out. By comparison, it was a whole lot easier to understand what the Higgs Boson is. Kids these days, they remind me of piglets, just frantically running around, oinking and sh*tting everywhere...

There used to be a signature here, a really cool one...and now it's gone.

Like it was 15 years ago? Oh noes, would anyone thinks about the poor corporations and their billion dollar profits, please? Their CEOs are struggling to buy new yachts these year, they need all the loot boxes, and monetary support, they can get 😢

Everyone is always worried about what someone else has / earns. Weird.

What in the world makes you guys think that a one time payment means you get free upgrades forever? Does any other industry do that? Or to use your analogy "oh those poor devs working 90 hour weeks for peanuts and expecting extra reimbursement for additional products".

No idea. Maybe you could explain how you reached that conclusion, since literally no one has suggested that's how it's supposed to work.

And we GOTO 10 again. 😛

People really should be wiser with their money but..well, I guess that is a vain hope.

A game's upgrades should be free forever vs a game should be upgraded forever, for free. People are saying the first, not that Richard Garriot should now be updating Akallabeth to run on win10 w/raytracing, gratis.

Children do have to take some responsibility for their actions as well- if they don't then that's bad parenting. If a parent is giving a child a credit card and not monitoring what they do with it then that's bad parenting; if a child is stealing their card then there isn't much they can do about it except stop it happening again.

I'd put money on it being the former most of the time, with a dash of technological ignorance too; parents simply not realising that credit card details get saved to accounts unless you opt out.

Scroll up a few posts?

Uh, yeah. It was you who suggested everything has to be free, forever.

Everything should be unlocked at install and all updates/expansions/skins should be free until the end of time.

Oh, I get it, you were being sarcastic! Do you have a point to make or are just trolling for effect?

No, Im meant MW's response, but you knew that.

As far as I remember, games have not significantly increased in price in years. Lets say game prices increased from $49.99 (?) to $100..BUT...all future skins / expansions / updates were included as standard. Would that be more palatable?

I've gone to eBay to purchase some special edition games/codes for unique exclusive items but never for cosmetics

My shame is deep but I'm not that shallow🤓

PS I really don't care how people want to spend their money but I don't like when games get chopped up and monetized as 2k Sports has done with their NBA games

MW said nothing of the sort. He said "like it was 15 years ago?" Considering that 15 years ago expansions weren't free, he wasn't agreeing that we should return to the good old days when everything was free. Rather it's a comparison to a time when you weren't sold a one-time use dye for $15. When games didn't live or die based on their ****ing daily Twitch viewership. When devs weren't in perma-crunch trying to fix their broken ass games while putting out new content. But you knew that.

Pretty sure I paid close to $100 for each of the NWNs and their expansions, and the only reason I didn't pay more is because they didn't keep them coming. I've also spent way more than $100 in subscription fees in each of the few MMOs I've played over the years. The hours/dollar ratio tends to be pretty good and it is, by far, the cheapest of my vices.

The problem is someone did the math, and they figured that that model just wasn't bringing in enough money to hit double-digit profits or whatever. So they decided to go with this freemium-but-full-price with totally not gambling thrown in for good measure model, instead. And if you're not happy, too bad, because there's a whale out there somewhere that makes up for your lack of spending, that of everyone you know, and then some.

I remember people used to whine sooooo much about the subscription model for MMO's, but I was always feeling like I got a good value out of them. Now the new microtransaction world is soooo much murkier.

I was moaning about subscriptions little bit as well, but after first three months of WoW, I've experienced the worth of "investement". The only downside was, that my spending was solely on this game, and missed a lot of good games, because, there was no time playing anything else, while preparing for raids.

Also 60$ games now is just a myth. You got for that proce just a basic edition with cut out content, you need to buy "gold" editions for 80 to 120$ nowadays to get the full game from AAA, and mulltiple season passes on top of that. So tje cost of 60$ per is the most blatant lie in the current AAA industry.
