If you consider returning to the game, I would still wait a bit - the recent patch introduced the biggest addition so far: a turn-based mode for those who prefer TB over Real-Time with Pause. This seemed to introduce a host of issue no matter which combat style you use. Turn-Based is still in beta and we are all waiting to the next patch which will introduce some much needed polish to turn-based combat and squish all the nasty bugs.

As far as the base game is concerned there isn't anything new story wise. There was a lot of work done to polish the gameplay - balance and difficulty are better, some new helpful UI, like you can see what companions are recommended for each quest so you won't miss out on some core interactions. Dispositions and reputations work better. There is "Deck of Many Ships" the final of the many free DLCs, which add unique merchant ship which sells some unique items. Each class received a new subclass, but be wary - those don't have dedicated reactivity. If you come back making another complain that the Steel Garotte paladin didnt' get reactivity during the trial in Woedica's Sanctum I will find you, drag you out in the middle of the night, bring you to a forgotten temple and choke you myself.

For those who beat the game and want to replay it and spice things up are Margran Fires, which you can access by clicking on the Magran Head icon at the bottom of the main menu - those are modifiers to vary things up. Also multiple Mega-bosses were added, which will test your battle skills, sadly no story attached to them.

The biggest additions to the game are three DLCs - Beast of Winter, Seeker, Slayer Survivor and The Forgotten Sanctum. All of them are in-game expansions (a very major sidequests so to speak) and IMO all of them are worth playing. Each of them focuses around one of the sidekicks to flesh them out:

Beast of Winter - introduces new sidekick, Vatnir, and has a lot of reactivity with Yidwyn. It's a very nice, balanced DLC - a story drived adventure with some exploration of important lore, dive into culture of a tribe from White that Wends some memorable battles. My personal favourite of the pack.

SSS - a combat focused DLC, though more enjoyable then I expected. It is essencially an arena, but don't take it as criticism - it has it's own storyline and it is probably the most robust arena I have seen in an RPG. Just be ready to do a lot of fighting and at this point those probably will be the hardest encounters you fought. Sidekicks who gets a lot of reactivity here is Konstanten.

Forgotten Sanctum - the oddest of those. It is a dungeon, though more in Deadfire style than PoE1 - think Deadlight Fortress. It's is a really fun area, with bizzare ideas, grim sense of humor, some Wael goodness and some really really interesting lore teases.

hey thanx for replying! appreciate it!

So turn-based..is it like Divinity Original Sin now ? and can you toggle between the two anytime..like in middle of a fight ? or do you need to be outside of a fight ?

like you can see what companions are recommended for each quest so you won't miss out on some core interactions

that sound awesome actually! part of the funs of having companions is what they say here and there in quest . And unless someone take it upon themself to write a walktrough about what the companions say and where (like this guy did for the whole trilogy of Mass effect , which I be forever grateful for doing that) . You can miss some dialogues easely .

If you come back making another complain that the Steel Garotte paladin didnt' get reactivity during the trial in Woedica's Sanctum I will find you, drag you out in the middle of the night, bring you to a forgotten temple and choke you myself.

b-but the reactivity!!!  :w00t:

Kidding! consider me warned . I like to stay alive lol .

those 2 first dlc sound like fun! but the 3rd one not so much..cose WAEL.... :getlost:  of all the gods..I think he is the one i cant stand lol .

Any new on the cc front ? dunno..portraits..new head...colors....? new weapons? spells ?

Thank for taking the time , this is what I needed to hear !

People complain about bugs but i played the game first time all the way through with some 60 hr playthrough and the game is fine. Silly complaint at this point.

If you really intent on playing turn based then maybe wait. If not then the games fine.

There's also a little bit of Ydwin reactivity in SSS.  Perhaps one of the funniest bits of in-party banter in the entire game, when Ydwin tells Xoti something like "Be quiet.  The adults are talking."

If I have a gripe about Vatnir, it would be that I wish that the devs had worked to find a way to place him, say, in the Wild Mare to try to develop a way to make him available to the party earlier.  As it is, you don't (or probably shouldn't) meet him until your party is rather high level late in the game, and you might be fairly committed to your existing party.  It would have been nice if he'd been available to use earlier in the overall story, because without him, there's only one priest option available, Xoti.

Somewhat, the system is different - it might change but as it is right now: every character gets to move per turn in order depending on initiative, from fastest to the slowest. Every character in one turn can move (distance depends on stride), take unlimited amount of free actions and take an action. Abilities have been divided into: free actions, main actions (actions that consume your main action points) and casts - they consume an action but are casted later in turn. I like the system a lot but it has quite a few issues which hopefully will be improved upon. Unfortunately you can’t switch between the two - you decide how you want to play when starting new game. It something Obsidian started they have nothing against conceptually, just it would take a lot of work to implement. I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for it to be implemented, but you never know.

Have a gander at official news. You should get a more complete idea on what they added:

Oh, no, it’s lots of fun. Every DLC comes with new items. As far as cosmetics only mods can help you here. There has been some addition (you can change eye colour of your character, and hats don’t make you bold) and there is free DLC with beards, but for the most part it is as it was before.

I did play on Turn-based. However, there are some finer mechanical bugs which are reported to happen on both combat systems. Those can be missed but are annoying if you go for certain builds and when playing turn based it is really easy to notice when something doesn’t work as it should. Plus bounties in cities make NPCs hostile in Turn based.

It works really really well. As Josh says in the video, it does highlight certain skills, which tended to underappreciate in RtwP combat. It is also easier to pay attention to all the rolls and numbers.

I mean it does have issues - the biggest one is that initiative isn't nearly as useful as low recovery - making some maluses irrelevant, some skills quite useless. I have been enjoying it qutie a lot, and I paused my playthrough midway through waiting for them to finalise the system before I jump into DLC. If you want to see what people have to say, there is special subforum for it:

Soo..you can play with it (turned based) without horribles issues? cose I really wanna give the game a run and go trough the dlc..and it has been so long...

I mean..there is no ETA on the patch right? but others then minors issues or tweak....

can I use it ? cose unless there is a horrible bug like companions get stuck...or dont die or something...any other issue like 'this roll is too OP..or this abilitie is too weak'' ..those kind of things really dont bother me , since I'm not a power gamer and barely pay attention to such a thing .

i'm a pretty patient guy, (and have already clocked in 700ish hours on deadfire) and even managed to run through hylea's challenge (a mega escort challenge for Vela) when it was bugged where vela wasn't scaling (read: she would get one shot by anything), but I'm holding off a bit, because if you like to play on harder challenges, the last couple of patches have really busted up how afflictions work (and get countered/dispelled).

if you're on lower difficulties or just like to brute force encounters, it may not be a big deal, but it's really just super frustrating to not be able to dispel entire classes of afflictions or even suppress them with suppress affliction.

You can absolutely give it a full playthrough in a current state. As far as I know only bounties which you do in the city with guards and civilians are completely bugged in turn based - guards become hostile for not reason.

There is a lot of polishing to do, and perhaps redesign of some mechanics but it’s difficult to say how far they will go. They were gathering feedback until the end of February, now we are waiting for a patch. With no console release date it’s difficult to say how much time they have before finalising the code.

Btw..those guard that go hostiles , been a while so I don't remember : but do you lose rep or something if you kill them ?
