I don't get that hate for Steam, I mean putting aside DRM which I don't like either steam have Linux support, mod support, player reviews, sales, good comunity hub/communicator, offline mode, greenlight, games from all type of developers.

GoG have DRM free option on the top.

What exactly Epic store have for customers? If someone want to be competitor of Steam they have to offer MORE than Steam have, to me they dont offer jack poo, just another showelware.

As a Linux gamer, I always purchase from Steam when everything else is equal. Valve may not be perfect, but they have done more for Linux gaming over the past half decade or so than just about any company out there. That alone has earned them my money.

Steam has had 15 years to work all that out though. Offline mode was a disaster for like the first ten.

is it suppose to be excuse? I think my point still stand, if you want to compete you have to put out more than your opponent

Or you offer something different than your opponent. Most new companies don't win by trying to outgun the titans of the industry.

The only reason I tried Epic was for the free Thimbleweed Park. I'll keep it installed so I can play Phoenix Point. Seems like a pretty simple market decision.

Origin actually launched in good shape with full features, stability, and ran better than Steam on my machine. But I rarely launch it because of the games they are peddling.

If they offer a curated games list, with limited to no shofelware games then it's an improvement for me. Steams game catalogue is not curated and is currently filled with thousands of games for $1 U.S. that are pure shovelware. I recall one of them was actually a bit coin generator for the creators which Steam only removed after it was proven to be one, or maybe Valve left it up because they don't care.

I can't believe how long it took me to realise what you lot are talking about :)

I still have no idea. I assume it's too deep web for me.

yeah hurray for censor ship because some dumbass is not able to buy only games he is interested in, not to mention cashback option, like seriously, I don't often hear such dumb reason to not like steam

Curation is not censorship. It is the same, like saying, that not selling contaminated polish beef in local mall is unconstitutional.

I do not know either. I just remember all these names, because they were around the eastern europe when I was a kid. Something abot 20-25 years ago, with maybe the exception of Fairlight, which sound little bit newer :)

Razor 1911 and FAiRLIGHT were from the 80ies, DEViANCE started in the late 90ies and later split into a bunch of groups like ViTALiTY (man, that was some internet drama), RELOADED and who the hells knows what else. Following the end of DEViANCE every new group on the scene was accused or thought to be former DEViANCE.

No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

yeah difference is that contamined polish beef can kill you, buying gimmick which you can return for free is .. i dont know, i don't see any negative with it. Not that i play that type of game but curation usually means no porn, no hatered, no postal and go on and on and on...

GOG is curated and has Postal and some Japanese Porn Visual Novels. You need to DL the uncensor patches off-site, but that does not change the fact, they all came through their curation process.

well, as i said i dont play that so probably good for them, but still don't see point of curation. I mean I can do that for myself just fine. If that is only downside of steam I can live with it without a problem

Seriously, what is up with Epic?  I just made an account (yeah, yeah, my information will go to the Chinese government or whatever...it's not like I'm ever buying anything from them or giving them my credit card information) and someone had already made an account with my e-mail address.  Do they seriously not have some sort of e-mail verification for account creation?  What the heck kind of company doesn't have at least that?

The question is, can you change password, it being your email?

Hotels had an issue with AirBnB. Someone made accounts for most hotels in Athens, couldn't verify the emails of course. But, as the hotel email addresses now have accounts tied to them, when AirBnB tried to recruit hotels to offer their rooms on the platform, they couldn't make accounts. Would have been easy enough if they could just change passwords, but to do that they need to prove they are the person who made the account and provide that person's info. So nobody has access to those accounts. And customer support doesn't fix it because they only fix things for superhosts :p

Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).

Yeah, I did change the password, but it's still crazy to me that they don't even have that minimum amount of security on the creation of accounts.

I also contacted them about the issue, but I doubt they'll care (it's kind of telling that they have a choice in their dropdown for contacting support that lists "Account created without my permission." or something very similar.)

What kind of security? I'm pretty sure that if I inputted your email right here, on Obsidian boards, you'd be unable to create another account with that email - even if I did not verify said account using inputted email.

Usually, the point at which an e-mail address gets reserved is the one where you enter your email at registration. Confirming that you own said email then merely activates said account. When someone else uses your email address to register but can't activate your account, most online software that I know will behave in the same way - it'll tell you that the email is taken at registration, but will allow you to re-activate it/reset password and re-activate it, since it's you who owns the email (Hopefully. Be wary of your passwords.)

Sometimes, accounts which go unverified for a longer period of time will get deleted - but that's not really a security precaution, more of a "Don't fill my database with crap" precaution.

I am about a week late here but damn, this sure looks neat:

...not as neat as Zenki Zero though, no game is complete without goats and that game has enough goats to last you a lifetime.

EA survey finds majority of players want games to be more inclusive

Are you implying that the whole GamerGate nonsense about the evils of racist-sexist-narcissist-bigoted-everything gamers was utter bull, EA? Imconcievable!

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*
