Thelees thread explains it well. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/99409-mechanics-power-level-compilation-thread/ Nerf Troubadour!
Elric Galad
I've read this topic several times in the past, but the only information I've found about this was the following. It is not clear for me the effects of PL lower than native PL of spell. What it does: for every power level you have that is greater than the native[1] power level of the spell, you get scaling bonuses. There are general rules about how spells should scale that I've found, though there appear to be exceptions. But what you see here should suffice for the vast majority of cases. Frak
Well, in another terms. There has to be a malus of some kind. You get a bigger spell circle. It has to cost you something. Edit. I haven't tested the numbers, but I will bet the eating of a fedora hat that enlarging the spell area will give you malus. Edited January 3, 2019 by Frak Nerf Troubadour! dunehunter
So the bonus/malus to decrease/increase radius is fixed or not? From what undead_lee said, it seems it is a fixed +/- 1 PL.
protopersona
So the bonus/malus to decrease/increase radius is fixed or not? From what undead_lee said, it seems it is a fixed +/- 1 PL. It's fixed at +1/-5. The increased area is more about hitting more targets than it is about power level. 2 "As the murderhobo mantra goes: 'If you can't kill it, steal it.'" - Prince of Lies

Increasing area: decreases PL by 5 Decreasing area: increases PL by 1 PL values were confirmed by SChin here. So yeah, it's an asymmetric effect from PL perspective. And according to Volsalex (source): - area increase is: +30-40% (increases safe/foe area) - area decrease is: -40-50% (decrease starts with decreasing safe/foe area) I would also echo Purudaya's suggestion to change this from +1/-5 to +2/-4 or at least +2/-5.
