What did you do for your second playthrough?

Recommended Posts

After beating Forgotten Sanctum, I've got the itch to make a new character and go through the game again. My first character was a Monk and I took along most of the crew from POE1. I don't know what kind of character I want to make, but I kind of want to try taking nothing but sidekicks with me. Anyone ever try that? Anyway, tell me what you did different for your second time through the game.

I ruled. ;)

The game is much easier on your second playthrough due to meta-knowledge and a better grasp of mechanics. So that's a good time to start some fun experiments.

I don't know what kind of character I want to make, but I kind of want to try taking nothing but sidekicks with me.

First run: with companions only (Eder, Aloth, Pallegina and Xoti/Maia).

Second run: with Aloth and 3 hirelings.

Third run (planned): with companions built as custom hirelings.

I mostly focused on creating a character who would ally with a faction I wanted to complete my 2nd game with. After playthrough through the game with mostly singleclass characters I decided to heavily rely on multiclassing characters. I also raised the difficulty to PotD. I created custom save mostly designed to explore different outcomes. I tend to rotate my characters to get the most out of quests and as on my 1st playthrough I didn’t have the “recommended companions” UI for quests I followed it closely this time around.

1) change main character (priest of berath , then fighter/wizard) - new character runs in with fear AOE, plus I max intimidate and role play as a big hulking badass named Leary that scares everyone in and out of combat

2) ally with diff faction (first pirates, then Deadfire company)

3) use different companions (this is huge! The main ones have tons of reactivity in the game. You should experience the game with each companion at least once, more than once if you want to take your relationship down different paths)

4) different romance

5) ships! Ignored the ship game first go around. This time? I’m the most feared, bloodthirsty dhow in the Deadfire. Ships name is the Punisher

Having a blast through my second full playthrough ! Already planning my third, which is why I spend so much damned time on these forums :)

Re: sidekicks, I love them, but miss the rich interactivity of the main companions. Vatnir, however, is my BFF.

I'm still finishing my first game, but I have the others planned.

First run: clever/shady pirate Assassin. Mock everyone and steal even what I don't need.

Second run: benevolent/honest Sorcerer, allying with the Vailians because of my Pal Gina. Eder, Xoti and Aloth come along and Eothas is a nice guy.

Third run: Woedica Templar. Help the gods deal with the Eothas menace. Side with Rauatai because the character is lawful neutral and believes they will bring order to the Deadfire (actually I want what they give me when I side with them).

Fourth run: Corpse Eater/Blood Mage or another cool combination that works better. Custom party, kill all companions and play with as many Challenges as I can handle.

I finished the game when it was released with a Barbarian Fighter (Unbroken) who was very tanky but a bit slow (I had taken him through the first game). I went for a mercenary type with a really nasty streak and took advantage of every intimidation opportunities.

I've started a second playthrough now that the DLC have been released and I'm planning to use a pen and paper character I've made years ago. Another Barbarian type but this time I'll be going for a Berserker/Streetfighter. The character is a bit naive and also a bit feral but he strives to be heroic all the time so it should be a nice change of pace. The main idea is that the character has an ego the size of Australia and never cease to see himself as a hero but you can't really be mad at him for that because he is incredibly good natured. I haven't taken him through the first game but I imagine the events that took place did have a sobering effect on him and that to him cosmological problems are a bit above his head so trying to do the right thing here and now and taking things as they come along is probably what he has in mind.
