Longest survival horror game on record?

Greetings, everyone. I hope you're having a nice day.

As the title says, what are some survival horror games that require a considerable time investment to beat? I've recently stumbled upon "Lost in Vivo" which seems to be right up my alley save for its disappointingly short campaign. I don't hold it against the developer because they're indie and all but it has me thinking whether there are any other games in the same vein that take more than just a few sittings to complete. Does anything come to mind?

Cheers to anyone who helps me fill my upcoming Christmas break with neat games.

How many hours are we talking here? Lol

The longest one I've played personally is Alien: Isolation. In the games industry, it pretty much set a standard for cimematic horror experience. It spares no filler, there's no fast travel and you have to wait as you ride in transports to each section. Time frame varies per person. It also has a survival mode.

The shortest horror game I've played would have to be Layers In Fear, which I completed in 5 and a half hours.

If you haven't played The Evil Within 1&2, you owe it to yourself to do so. The first Evil Within game is infamous for it's tutorial that spans the first 3 levels, in which many quot because they couldn't deal with the trauma of The Sadist. It's basically the best horror game since Silent Hill 2. It's legnthy and fundementally the spiritual successor to RE4.

If you like multiplayer games, check out Dead By Daylight. It's basically a one trick pony with alot of grinding but the community is great and the game is fun.

If you have a Dreamcast, check out Blue Stinger and Nightmare Creatures 1&2.

If you have a PS3, check out Sirens: Blood Curse.

If you have a PS2, check out Dino Crisis 1&2.

Avoid anything with the names Clive Barker and American McGee, they're a plague!

I'm a bit of a horror game specialist lol

The Last Of Us was really good but I'd hardly consider it a horror game. It's basically a story-driven character action game with zombies.

Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? Is it a habit of yours to scurry about, getting in the way and causing bother?

What are you still bothering me for? I'm a Knight. I'm not interested in your childish games. I need my rest.

Begone! Lest I draw my nail...

Alien: Isolation is like 20 hours long, and excellent.

I'd argue that it's a lot longer than it should be, but hey, that stuff's subjective

Edit: I mean, I third Prey as an excellent game, but it's not much of a horror

oh ye, FEARs not my cup of tea if im being honest, but i watched my bro play through it, and it seems pretty good for what it is.

i tried playing through amnesia: the dark descent and i straight up couldnt hack it. scared the **** out of me, which is a good thing, i guess, lol.

if u want to go old school. have a crack at 'Realms of the Haunting'. its quite a big game with that endearing 90s fmv thing going on. even if its interface etc aint up to modern snuff, its aged better than ud expect it to.

one of my friends played it for the first time recently and he had a blast.

Never played Clive Barker's Undying or American McGee's Alice?!
Yep, I got em. Great for at the time but aged horribly to the point where story isn't strong much anymore imo. I loved them when thry came out though.

Same with Nosferatu, it's become far too dated.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned VTM: Bloodlines, that's all horror with some fps elements and rpg mechanics to chew on which means length but also, it's one of the buggiest pc games ever - even with the user made patches/restoration mods.

Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? Is it a habit of yours to scurry about, getting in the way and causing bother?

The gameplay has aged horribly, but the story?!

I want another American McGee's Alice. :(

I also wouldn't mind another game like Undying:

I agree with you on The Evil Within though, I've only played the first game and while it had a mind-boggling story, the gameplay was just right. I've heard that the second part is better. You might be interested in watching this.

American McGee's Alice is a masterpiece. I dust it off every now and then and play it again. As far as I'm concerned, it's aged wonderfully. Certainly better than I have.

I enjoyed the F.E.A.R. games immensely. I didn't feel like it was much of survival horror. Same for Alice. Great stories with a lot of shooting, but survival horror should mean that you do more running than fighting as I see it. Speaking of shooters, Dead Space appealed to a lot of folks. Not my cuppa, but you might enjoy it and I think it takes a while longer.

The wife and I enjoyed Layers of Fear. Short, but you can get different endings if that appeals to you.

As a bit of a survival horror twist, you could try Don't Starve.

Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice is... weird but I kind of liked it. On the last level, I got burned out, but I'll finish it eventually.

The Long Dark is survival without the horror as such. On hard levels, it's ****ing brutal.

The old Penumbra games are Cthuluesque and there's some fighting and running in them.

I think the first Portal has aspects of horror and it's definitely all about surviving.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter wasn't so much terrifying as depressing.

The wife and I played this game called Dark Fall. It's more of a graphics adventure. We liked both I and II, but the first is definitely better.

Alan Wake is definitely horror. I should look to see if they created a sequel. There's some fighting, but you mostly try to avoid imminent death.

Me too, both would be great!

I heard they're making one (according to their official Facebook page anyway) and trying to recruit India Eisley as the voice of Alice!

Believe it or not, I actually almost listed Portal as well!!!

Beautiful geaphics, terrible game. Sad but ultimately boring.

Loved Alan Wake, very Twin Peaks. Very unique...

Which makes me consider that the Metro games might be horror in a way. Meh. It has that similar "Use your light to scare off enemies!" rule in its dark and eerie tonal environment but not sure if I can recommend it because it bored the hell out of me - unlike Alan Wake which was interesting at every moment.

Alone in the Dark can take a while to finish, especially if you play them all in a row and the trilogy is currently on sale.

Assuming you don't mind blocky graphics as muc has SonicMage117 does. :p

omg, good catch. i loved alone in the dark. ye, the tank controls have prob aged badly but i guess the series remains as eccentric and inventive as ever.

it really annoyed me that the dreary copy that was resident evil took off instead. pfft.

EDIT: why cant i type. ffs.

It depends on the game, some devs that use 3D polygons just dud it better than others.

2D pixel in gerbil (general) on the other hand are forever beautiful, and HD 2D pixel art (recent years) is the ultimate art style. There are plenty if 3D polygonal games from 90's consoles that I think are still beautiful.
