So At the Gates looks like it will actually see the light of day.

I wrote this one off, but it doesn't look too shabby. That means the only Kickstarter project that hasn't delivered is the Space Quest guys.

Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

Bethesda: "We gave admin rights and the customer information of Beta testers"

EA: "Hold my beer"

It appears to me as if it's mostly companies that deal with end users that don't give a toss about this (re: hypernormalization?).

When dealing with other companies (or governments, I imagine), leaks like these mean lost business most of which probably won't be coming back soon, unless the competition that it went to gets hit by the same type of deal.

If the account belongs to a child then they are breaking the law and can be sued. I don't recall but I think you don't need to be over 18 to have an origins account.

It's unbelievable, but most of the companies do not give a crap about security for one single reason, damage control after the leak is much cheaper than prevention and tight security...

Man, I heart this video:

https://youtu.be/SwGtTTtTNJE

What is wrong with you, Sony?!

The video is so good and true.

Tim Cain's rule: Any game with "Quest" in the name is bound to be a problem. So I agree with the dude, that game looks stupid and boring. Not sure how it became such a popular Crpg.

Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? Is it a habit of yours to scurry about, getting in the way and causing bother?

What are you still bothering me for? I'm a Knight. I'm not interested in your childish games. I need my rest.

Begone! Lest I draw my nail...

some not too reliable source mentioned that Diablo was banned in China - that would be hilarious

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Apparently the Chinese government is setting up an "ethics" board to review games they'll allow. I love the irony there.

Rockstar updated RDO yesterday. The changelog for that 800mb update is huge:

General improvements to fix game stability, save data and to address exploits.

Oh and apparently instead of fixing the mission reward design, they simply nerfed it all again... I don't know wtf they are doing. Do they want nobody to play the game anymore in a week?

I rechecked, and KCD pulled in two awards this year: best music and best narrative, and the narrative award came from Europe. This kickstarter everyone wrote off back in the day actually sold between 1 to 2 million copies, people played it too, according to steam spy at least, and it wins a music award in America.... The music's fine, but it really hammers home these big commercial events for doritos are p2win, in their own right. Warhorse may have made some cash, but they just aren't murka AAAbscess publisher tier.

I think, the stock bubble is slowly starting to burst after the price hijack which started with the introduction of Overwatch lootboxes, and sharholders are cashing out their 1 year, 1 and half year investments, and all the AAA companies are starting to panick because almost every single of them has lost 25 - 50% of value over the course of last 6 months, and they probably think, that fleecing the whales even more drastically, will bring them back their lost value.
