What are you playing right now?

It just occured to me that nearly every D&D game put out in the last 20 years has been in the Forgotten Realms. Of the traditional high fantasy settings, I was always more partial to Dragonlance. During the Gold Box days there were games set in Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Ravenloft, and Dark Sun. There might have even been a game in that cool, but unfortunately short lived, Arabian Nights setting, Al Qadim, or whatever it was called. Has anyone made a non-Forgotten Realms D&D game since the Gold Box days?

As an aside, does Pathfinder have an Arabian Nights type path?

Yes, it is called Legacy of Fire, unfortunately, it was made in OGL 3.5 rules and not PF rules, so game adaptation will probably never happen :(

Maybe in the future, once I get a driving job with a more regular schedule, some of us forumites can get a Legacy of Fire p&p game going over the interwebs via roll20? I'm feenin' for some Arabian Nights roleplaying.

I am up for it, just most of the time, it is impossible for me to find good schedule for EU and US timezone cooperation :(

I'd be down for Ravenloft, Lovecraftian Horror, Wuxia, Arabian Nights, really anything besides traditional high fantasy.  I'm just really burned out on the Tolkien-esque setting.  I'll make a thread in the pen & paper section in the future once I have a more regular schedule.

Has anyone made a non-Forgotten Realms D&D game since the Gold Box days?

Bro, how could you forget the classic post GB non FR D&D game Planetscape: Tournament?

Thing about the FR games is that theoretically it's a pretty diverse setting, but they hardly ever use anything apart from its Tolkienesque bits like the Sword Coast and that has got really, really stale even with the dearth of recent D&D games. It would be fine- better at least- having only one 'world' if people used the other parts of that world a bit more.

Well motored through Frostpunk on second playthrough, survived the New Home scenario and didn't become a despot or nutcase.  Worst I did was put kids to work in 'safe' jobs which, considering the circumstances is all right.

...Did you take all the refugees that were running from the massive ice storm?

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

I want it all, I want much more of the Forgotten Realms, and I'd love to get more of all the settings Keyrock listed, and more. I can't believe how underused Dark Sun and Ravenloft is, and I agree that Forgotten Realms have so much more to offer. The Rashemen setting of NWN2 Mask of the Betrayer just showed a glimpse of what you can do, and that wasn't even very exotic, Faerun is huge.

Only the healthy ones, probably could have managed all if I didn't forego getting heaters and some other medical improvements.

Continuing my Deadfire playthrough, greatly enjoying it overall, I'm excited to get into the Forgotten Sanctum eventually.

Have to say though, my Beast of Winter experience was kinda bugridden which kinda sucked some fun of it. And I'm not into Seeker, Slayer, Survivor and... well, I don't think it will be for me, being so combat focused. I enjoy some of harder combat encounters in these games but there's a certain threshold I have a hard time getting over. I beat the fight eventually, but the Naga challenge was a good example of that, where there's so much stuff going on, VFX all over the place and a million things happening at once (well, taking out the totems obviously helped with that). That's when realtime w pause loses whatever charm it has for me, I just can't take it all in and get a good overlook of the battlefield, even if I slow it down to the slowest speed.

Also, when they recorded the audio of the woman who runs the Crucible... same mistake as with Grieving Mother in the first game, those horrendous Ssss-noises tear my ears apart.

I've been debating whether to pick up The Witcher 3 GOTY on Steam for $20. I know about all of the love out there for this game, but not being party-based is one of my deal breaker criteria. So I'm wondering if all of the other awesome qualities of this game can make up for it not having a party of companions. I would appreciate thoughts and opinions.

You don't have a party of companions traveling with you, but there are memorable characters that you have to visit during quests. You also get to accompany/escort certain characters during some quests.

At any rate, you won't feel alone. The game has a full cast of colorful characters, each with their own story.

Thank you! I went ahead and picked up the game (along with Tower of Time).

Another question about TW3: I know there are a LOT of mods out there for the game. I hate having to mod my games. Are any mods absolutely essential to playing TW3? As in, without them my game will be sort of broken?

Huh. I always thought ToEE was set in Greyhawk. I guess not. Never played that game, obviously.

I played it on the PS4 so no mods for me. I don't think that mods are essential for the first TW3 playthrough, the game has a whole lot to offer on its own.

There used to be a signature here, a really cool one...and now it's gone.

One day I may reinstall TW3 and try and get farther than an hour past the intro. :p

I was still occasionally having "casual fun" with light/short sessions of Diablo3 on console, farming those Greater Rifts to see if I can find any slightly better gear (I'm not using any uber-build-guide builds, doing my own thing). Until the 2nd ring of a 2-ring Set dropped. I put it on and the Set bonus increased my (and my necro pets) damage about 1000%. Critical hit numbers are hundreds of millions. For two pieces of gear vs. the more typical 3-5 for a Set. So now I'm blowing through Torment10-13 like butter, where Legendaries drop 2-5 every single map level and you just destroy them for materials. I sense total imbalance. Not that 2018 Diablo3 is balanced to begin with but whatever.

Anyway, no (gameplay) reason to item hunt much more really (collector-wise already have most of what I cared about), so bored of that. Old Diablo games lasted me years hunting for elusive unique rng items. 2018-D3 is like ... a month? bwhaha. What to do now, what to do....

I spent hours on the LAN with friends on Diablo 1. Spent almost as much time on Diablo 2 with friends. Finished the first box campaign or whatever for Diablo 3 and that was it. Never touched another Diablo game again. Not hating on it. Just not my cuppa.

I don't know how much longer I have with Prey, but I suspect it might still be a while. I need to finish before the weekend is over or I probably won't get back to it for several months. I'd also like to finish Pathfinder. I'm getting the feeling I won't be able to do both before Monday. Aw well. At any rate, I recently found

Chief Elezar and her redoubt. I managed not to kill several mind controlled earlier, so I'm hoping I can get a happy ending for these people. I'm still not convinced that the entirety of the game is really just training or some other mind-****ery. Frankly, even if I've figured it out already, the story is fun and the gameplay is cool. Happy ending or not, there will be an end, and I want to reach it soon.

I enjoyed the Prey ending.

I am playing Elex for the first time. Bit of a learning curve, but things are starting to some together. Just hit level 9 and I am starting to feel ok about exploring. Also not sure how much Elex I can take without affecting my emotions too much. I want to feel!

Pathfinder: Kingmaker.

Today I've tried to complete the last two chapters in one go and it probably was a bad idea. Though, it turned out that the last chapter was optional, so I have completed the game with a reasonably good outcome.

Also found a Masterwork Siangham (had to look it up). For some reason it had a crate as its icon and I don't remember this weapon type being available.

Yeah, I'm hoping to finish it soon. I suppose losing a little sleep in the early part of this month will be worth finishing the game. lol Who needs sleep anyhow? I've seen some of the posts about Tristan and Jaethal and I'd like to finish the game with both of them, but if I can't

keep her from doing something truly evil by sacrificing her daughter

, then she'll have to die next run also.

The only mod I am personally using for TW3 is this one - it makes the UI a lot less obtrusive while not taking away essential functionality. It's absolutely not essential and you can safely ignore it if you don't mind the game's UI.

I couldn't stand its reliance of minimap and how unnecessarily huge the game's UI components were, so I only installed it for combat UI (health, potions, bombs, those kinds of things) to be only visiable during combat and so that minimap only displays when pressing a button, so 90% of the game is played with no UI at all. But I can't stress enough that the mod is far from essential - just good enough for me to mention, and it's quite easy to install and configure.

Ha! Won my first Into the Breach playthrough. Vek got their arses handed to them!

... Well, actually, it was pretty close and it was 'only' a 2 island victory, therefore the easiest possible one. Still, the game feels fantastic - it's one of those rare games where it's pretty hard for me to find anything to criticize. Everything's there for a reason, there's only as much visual clutter as necessary to make the theme work and I can't really find a whole lot of fat the game could be trimmed of (any, in fact)

I think the only criticism I could have is that sometimes, it feels like the game puts my team in BS situations - then again, those BS situations are a big part of the challenge and are insanely satisfying when you do get to resolve them (not to mention they're often your own bloody fault)

So... Deceptively simplistic yes insanely complex, it very much has the 'one more turn and I'm done' thing going for it and I can't get enough of it. So far the best game I've played in 2018 was the Hitman (2016), but I think Into the Breach just has to take its torch as my GOTY.

A definite must-play for all fans of turn-based tactics games.
