[BUG] Opening inventory crashes the game

zeec123

Question

Description

If I try to open the inventory menu, the game crashes.

This occurred shortly after I bought some fancy items form the new merchant ship, but may be a coincident.

Steps to Reproduce the issue:

  1. Start the game
  2. Load the save
  3. Press "I" or click on the inventory button

Savegames

The save file is too big for this forum. You can get it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/v6jz5x0ulm6y2c4/Eric%20%28279c9c87-9f9a-46af-a4e0-339b5c4dd9aa%29%20%28LAX-2ABCDE%29%20autosave_2.savegame?dl=1

Crash Output

The forum says I am not permitted to upload this kind of file. So here we go: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6rbq84r7rs4t5k4/Player.log?dl=1

System

macOS High Sierra

Version 10.13.6

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)

2,9 GHz Intel Core i7

16 GB 100 MHz DDR3

Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

Hey Zeec,

I'm sorry you're getting this crash and thank you for being so thorough with the information while supplying saves and crash logs!  I'm sending this off to the development team to investigate and get a fix as soon as possible.  In the meantime, I know it's an annoying step, but have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Deadfire yet?  Based on the description, it sounds like the DLC items might be corrupted or missing parts and a full install of the game is likely to fix something like that.  Please let me know if that works!

Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.

Hello again Zeec,

I'm sorry to hear the issue is still present, but thank you for testing this.  It looks like the Programming team may have found a fix and the QA team is verifying that the fix will be stable with the rest of Deadfire.  Keep an eye on the latest patch notes to see when the fix is implemented into the game.

Sorry again for the inconvenience the bug has caused.

I’m experiencing a similar bug (game crashes when I open inventory), and it also happened after I bought something at the deck of many things (the cape of the falling star).

Reloaded before that and bug stopped. Bought the cape again, and no crashes so far. So maybe a sporadic bug?

Sadly, my last post was too optimistic -- when I returned to the game, I'm again unable to open my inventory without crashing the game after having bought the Cape of the Falling Star.

--Description: After buying (from the Deck of Many Things) and equipping the Cape of the Falling Star, and then returning to the game (re-opening the game later on), the game crashes whenever I try to open my inventory. To reproduce the problem, open the attached file, and attempt to open the inventory: the game will then freeze.

--Saved Game file and Player log: See this dropbox folder

--System Specs:

  Model Name: MacBook Pro

  Model Identifier: MacBookPro11,1

  Processor Name: Intel Core i5

  Processor Speed: 2.6 GHz

  Number of Processors: 1

  Total Number of Cores: 2

  L3 Cache: 3 MB

  Memory: 16 GB

Hey everyone,

This is still a known issue that is logged in the bug system.  It is still one of our higher level bugs that we plan to fix, but the team has not gotten a fix working for this yet.  Stay tuned to the patch notes to see when the fix has been implemented.

Sorry again for the length of this inconvenience.

I've created a fix to remove the Deltro's Cage effect so I could play the game with my desired build. I was getting 100% crash rate when equipping Deltro's Cage, now it's 0.

Step 1: Create an override folder inside your Pillars of Eternity II folder. Mine is here: C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Pillars of Eternity II\PillarsOfEternityII_Data\override

Step 2: Create a mod folder inside the override folder (C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Pillars of Eternity II\PillarsOfEternityII_Data\override\Deltro fix)

Step 3: Create a text file in there. Paste the text below (it removes the visual for the status effect Deltro's Cage creates). Save it with the extension .gamedatabundle (mine is deltro_fix10.gamedatabundle). That worked for me. The game counts this as a mod so you can toggle it on or off in the menu. Credit to Shadowstrider in this thread (https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/101833-swapping-armor-and-weapon-models/) for making this pretty easy.
