Point and click RPGs

Sounds like a bait, but I think (and I am an expert, of course) that there are sub-genres of RPG. The Elder Scrolls and DD:DA are action-RPGs, BG and IWD are CRPGs, which came earlier (and were based on tabletop RPGs), thus they are truer RPGs, than the former two.

Also there are JRPGs, which I will ignore for reasons.

But don't you use mouse in CRPG more than in Skyrim?

Pretty much the same, actually, because of TESV GUI (inventory, journal, etc.) and that I like to move the camera with mouse and attack with LMB, while I use KB to do it in BGEE (I don't remember much about the original edition) and PoE.

It's a difficult topic for some. I'll try to decode your brother's thought a bit and then stare my own thoughts.

If I'm right, I think what your brother is saying is that he prefers rpg's made for controller in mind. Point and click rpg isn't rrally a thing "officially" but makes sense if you're talking mouse and keyboard vs controller.

Personally, I use controller alot more. Much more freedom with it and but I'm also not opposed to mouse and keyboard.

If I'm wrong about the controls preference, then your brother may he talking about classic ismoetric rpg bs action rpg or IE Rpg's vs Arpg. Maybe he prefers the perspective of close range/first person rather than a near top down or isometric viewpoint.

Maybe he's talking both perspective and controls lol There's very little context that you've given so I'm doing my best :p

One thing that isn't opinion though is that Arpg's made to use with a controller are the most accessible, intuitive and user-friendly so I guess I can understand he prefers them. After all, one if my personal favorites is Dragon's Dogma. There is a reason why games like Skyrim sell better than Baldurs Gate - and it's not the usual excuse if "People buy trash". Both Baldurs Gate and Elder Scrolls are equally satisfying games, same measures of quality but in different respects. Some people cannot accept that.

It's why the smarter developers out there (Larian) often have two versions of the same game. The Classic version os kade specifically with mouse and keyboard in mind while the Enhanced version is made for controller in mind.

Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? Is it a habit of yours to scurry about, getting in the way and causing bother?

What are you still bothering me for? I'm a Knight. I'm not interested in your childish games. I need my rest.

Begone! Lest I draw my nail...

Sounds more like a difference between camera angle than anything to do with control.

More like the manor of movement is clicking with the mouse instead of WSAD and if you're making a game with mouse click movement its a good idea to move the camera angle out so you can see farther.

That said, Melusina, your brother has some weird ideas about genre mesh-ups.

The only point n click RPGs I can think of are Quest For Glory 1-5 and Hero-U, seeing as they are combinations of point n click adventures and RPGs. They are phenomenal, by the way.

Ehhh... Some people consider the original Resident Evils to be point and click game and technically they aren't wrong. The point and click genre itself (Monkey Island, other classic titles) was never really a fairly named but 90's gamers went with it, even though every game then was point and click on pc, for whatever reason.

You can add this to the list as well.

I vaguely remember a game from my childhood that looked similar to QfG. It started in some town where you could walk left or right to circle around it's outskirts and one of the first things you could attempt is break into a bank at night, though I coudln't figure out the symbol puzzle. Or what I was supposed to do, so that's about all I know about it. I think wasn't an RPG though.

Hmmm, it does ring a bell but I can't quite put my finger on it.
